The Alabama softball team advanced to yet another Women’s College World Series on Sunday afternoon after defeating the Northwestern Wildcats 3-2 from Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Once again the pitching duo of Jaala Torrence and Montana Fouts helped secure the victory for the Crimson Tide who is now advancing to its 14th WCWS in program history.
After a one-hour lightning delay at the bottom of the third, two singles and a walk quickly loaded the bases for Alabama senior catcher Ally Shipmen who would hit a two-run single to give Alabama the lead.
Jenna Johnson hit a solo home run in the fifth to extend the Tide lead to 3-1. A one-out solo home run from Maeve Nelson of Northwestern cut the lead to one but a groundout and strikeout sealed the victory to send the Tide to OKC.
Next up for Alabama is a matchup with SEC foe, Tennessee in OKC on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. CT.
Until then, let’s enjoy some of the top images from Alabama’s emotional win over Northwestern on Sunday!
