A former Nebraska running back has announced his retirement from the National Football League. Rex Burkhead has retired after ten seasons in the NFL.
The former Husker played for the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, and Houston Texans over the course of his decade in the league. The native Texan played for Nebraska from 2009-2012.
During his Cornhusker career, he ran for 3,329 yards and 30 touchdowns. His best season came in 2011 when he recorded 1,357 rushing yards for 15 touchdowns.
Following his Nebraska career, he would be selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL draft. Burkhead would also win a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots.
