Respawn is currently working on three new Star Wars games

EA and Lucasfilm have announced that Respawn Entertainment is currently developing three individual Star Wars projects.

Electronic Arts and Lucasfilm have just revealed that Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, currently has three individual Star Wars projects in active development.

The news comes from the official Star Wars website, where a recent blog post unveils new details about various Respawn projects that are in the works right now.

The first of these projects is perhaps the most predictable — Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2, which will serve as a follow-up to Respawn’s 2019 hit. We had already heard rumours that this game could show up prior to E3 2022, so its reveal is definitely the least surprising of the three. The other two games are an FPS and a strategy game.

The blog post includes thoughts from various executives across the three companies, all of whom are excited about tasking such a beloved studio with helming further stories in a galaxy far, far away. Perhaps the most interesting quote, however, comes from Peter Hirschmann, who will serve as game director for the upcoming Star Wars first-person shooter.

“Working with Lucasfilm Games on a new FPS in the Star Wars galaxy is a dream come true for me, as this is a story I have always wanted to tell,” Hirschmann said. According to the blog post, Hirschmann has previous credits on the original Star Wars Battlefront games, making him an excellent fit for a new FPS — particularly when you consider his comment about telling a story he has always wanted to tell.

In related news, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga recently got a release date. If you’re not sure what to play while you wait, be sure to check out our list of the best space games.

Respawn Entertainment discontinues sales of original Titanfall

The original Titanfall will no longer be on storefronts.

Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind Apex Legends  and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, is no longer selling the original Titanfall  on storefronts.

The announcement to discontinue sales of Titanfall  came Wednesday, in a rather to-the-point statement shared on Respawn’s social media pages.

“We’ve made the decision to discontinue new sales of the original Titanfall  game starting today and we’ll be removing the game from subscription services on March 1, 2022,” Respawn said  on Twitter. “We will, however, be keeping servers live for the dedicated fanbase still playing for those who own the game and are looking to drop into a match.”

Respawn reassured fans that the franchise will live on for now in Titanfall 2  and Apex Legends, while more games in this universe will come in the future. Sad day, for sure, though the studio likely knows what’s best for the series right now.

You can check out the complete statement from Respawn Below.

Apex Legends fan discovers how to walk on water thanks to a ridiculous glitch

They said it couldn’t be done.

Everyone’s heard of “rising above the competition,” right? Well, this Apex Legends  fan took things one step further by rising above sea level — as in straight-up walking on water.

Over on  Reddit, user Quasar2003 was busy minding their own business, hopping onto a jump pad without a care in the world, when suddenly, they were more buoyant than the average mortal. Somehow, their landing enabled water-walking. No, this is not supposed to happen in Apex Legends, especially not in  Season 11’s brand new map. It’s a pristine example of a glitch ending in unintentional hilarity—sort of like  Halo Infinite’s  wet floor signs.

Check out a clip of the water walk in Apex Legends  for yourself below. Don’t try it at home without a lifeguard on duty, though.

Was f’ing around and think i found a glitch from apexlegends

I actually tried replicating this glitch but was unable to, so it’s not a widespread issue like the crashing that was happening in Call of Duty: Vanguard.

There’s a lot of examples of bugs that yield belly laughs from even the harshest of critics. For example, Battlefield 2042’s  hovercraft that’s able to scale buildings or everything about the GTA Trilogy  since it’s just one big glitch. Nothing this far this year tops eFootball’s  horrific facial animations. Sorry, Rockstar.

Apex Legends fan brilliantly traps multiple squads inside in-game bathroom

That’s one way to make sure people wash their hands.

Always wash your hands after using the restroom, or else this devious Apex Legends  player might trap you inside.

Ok, that last part (hopefully) won’t happen in real life but inside The Apex Games? Think again, bucko. On Reddit, user ToxicScience lives up to their handle by coaxing unsuspecting squads into in-game bathrooms by leaving great items behind, then barricades everyone inside via the character’s gas trap ability. Dastardly behavior, truly. Like placing cheese on a mousetrap — if the mouse was inhaling poisonous fumes while soaking-up loads of bullets by the end of things.

Check out a clip of this ridiculous plan of attack for yourself below.

Finally full squad in a toilet trap! Very rare event in wild apex world! from apexlegends

You can practically hear the muffled screams of frustration from here. It’s even funnier than  a squad getting taken out by a downed opponent’s grenade. Still not quite as knee-slap-worthy as Call of Duty Vangaurd’s  tiny murderous tank, though.

Apex Legends  fans are  enjoying season 11 right now, complete with a  snazzy battle pass. It’s much better than Halo Infinite’s  battle pass, for sure.

‘Apex Legends’ squad gets hilariously taken out by downed opponent’s grenade

It’s not easy being in someone else’s highlight reel.

We’ve all been the poor sap in someone else’s highlight reel at some point, which is what happened to some Apex Legends  players when a downed opponent’s stray grenade sent them off to the big drop zone in the sky.

Over on Reddit, user ATDiplomat shared a clip of them taking out an enemy squad — while in a downed state. See, ATDiplomat tosses a grenade straight up in the air just before the attackers down them. When one goes in for a fancy assassination, ATDiplomat’s grenade returns from orbit and eliminates the whole lot of them. The best part is that ATDiplomat had a self-revive shield, so they could get back up and keep playing afterward. Incredible stuff, honestly.

Take a look at this giggle-fit-worthy play by ATDiplomat in Apex Legends for yourself below.

Sometimes a ‘nade is all you need. from apexlegends

It makes me wonder how ATDiplomat fared afterward. Even if they didn’t place first, that was the play of the game, for sure! Cooler than running over people with a tiny tank in Call of Duty: Vanguard, even.

Apex Legends  has been seeing a lot of wild clips like this  ever since Season 11 came out. Given it’s the beefiest update Respawn Entertainment  has ever released for the game, it’s not all that surprising. Even the  battle pass is positively overflowing with cool stuff.

The Escape battle pass for ‘Apex Legends’ will give your character the flashiest threads

Hit the beach in style this… winter?

Season 11 of Apex Legends  is nearly upon us, and with it comes a brand new battle pass.

The Escape battle pass will contain all sorts of cosmetic goodies for your favorite in-game characters. Fancy some new threads for Mirage? Well, now there’s the Desert Mirage skin for Mirage! Yes, that’s what it’s called. There’s also the Glorious Combatant skin for Gibraltar and the Reactive Pipe Dream skin for the Prowler weapon. Escape will likely have hundreds of more items in its battle pass when the season launches on Nov. 2 as well, considering how filled to the brim these passes are.

Check out the Escape battle pass trailer for yourself below.

ForTheWin went  hands-on with Season 11 recently, and it’s shaping up to be Apex Legends’ biggest content update yet. The community is quite stoked about it, which is refreshing to see after the  controversial tap-strafing news from a couple of months back. It seems when in doubt, Respawn Entertainment can simply add loads of Titanfall 2 references into a season to get back in everyone’s good graces.

Escape trailer for ‘Apex Legends’ teases what’s in Season 11

Ash makes her glorious return after the events of Titanfall 2.

Finally, Apex Legends  is heading to the beach. In Season 11, curiously titled Escape, our favorite characters will get to kick back, relax, and perhaps dodge a stray bullet or two.

Escape’s launch trailer teases a bunch of stuff for Apex Legends  players to look forward to when it releases on Nov. 2. Most importantly, it’s new legend Ash, who was one of the baddies in Titanfall 2. She seems just as murderous as ever, considering half the trailer is just her coldly stabbing every other cast member. Seriously, what did my man Mirage ever do to her?

Check out Apex Legends’  Escape trailer for yourself below.

Another notable addition one can glean from the trailer is Mirage picking up a C.A.R. SMG, a weapon from Titanfall 2  that’s new to Apex Legends. There are also spiders. Like, big, nasty spiders that we’ll have to mow down in some sort of PvE element. Then, of course, the tropical environment is probably a teaser for the new map, but it’s hard to say. Escape’s preview page suggests as much, though.

“No matter how beautiful it seems, every corner of the Outlands is a dangerous place,” Respawn  said. “You’d be wise to remember that.”

Precisely the sort of thing you want to hear while out on vacation, right?

‘Apex Legends’ weapons found on rapper Freddie Dredd’s new single cover art

Shut Up featuring the Flatline and Wingman.

Freddie Dredd’s new single Shut Up came out a month ago, but it’s now drawing attention in the Apex Legends community after an eagle-eyed fan spotted weapons from the game on the single cover.

Over on r/apexlegends, user have_you_ever_did took the time to point out two guns from Apex Legends  appear on the single art. More specifically, the VK-47 Flatline rifle and the Wingman pistol. Several other random weapons are scattered all over the cover, but given that Apex Legends is set in the future and uses its own fictional guns, it’s hard to mistake them for a real firearm.

Check out the cover art with circled highlights for yourself below.

Apex weapons can be found on freddie dredd’s new song cover from apexlegends

The VK-47 Flatline is on the left, while the Wingman is on the right. Also, yes, Titanfall fans — I know these guns came from that series. It’s a shared universe, ok! It’s not a big deal, you nerds.

Dredd has yet to comment on the observation, but it’s likely just a clever wink at a popular game. Perhaps either he or the artist that did the album cover artwork are fans? Hard to say, but it’s a neat find nonetheless.

Respawn delays ‘tap-strafing’ removal from ‘Apex Legends’ after discovering unforeseen side effects

The controversial maneuver isn’t getting axed from the game just yet.

Apex Legends pros were less than pleased over the announcement that ‘tap-strafing’ was getting removed from the game, but that won’t happen anytime soon, it seems. At least not with patch 10.1 as was initially planned.

“The Apex Legends team has recently discovered some unexpected side effects of our planned changes to tap-strafing,” Respawn Entertainment said in a statement on Twitter. “It is still our intention to address some of the most egregious use-cases of tap-strafing, but for now, we are delaying our planned change to a later patch.”

Respawn continued: “Movement is sacred in Apex. We weigh every change to these systems carefully and value feedback. After further testing, we’ve concluded we need to take more time to get this right to make sure related movement mechanics aren’t caught in the cross-fire.”

Respawn, of course, wouldn’t divulge any information as to what those side effects might be, but that hasn’t rampant speculation. The popular theory is that the controversial maneuver is the byproduct of Apex Legend’s physics and momentum engine and that removing it causes other problems. Either way, we likely won’t know unless the developers come out and state why.

Controversial ‘tap-strafing’ move in ‘Apex Legends’ is getting removed, and pros aren’t happy

Respawn Entertainment announced that come patch 10.1, tap strafing will be no more.

Respawn Entertainment announced plans to remove “tap-strafing” from Apex Legends in an upcoming patch. The controversial movement technique is wildly popular as of late, and while it’s technically an exploit, many don’t see it as a problem considering it takes loads of skill to pull off.

So what is tap-strafing, exactly? Basically, it’s a maneuver in Apex Legends that lets you change direction midair in a pinch without slowing down at all. Imagine zipping around corners as if momentum was never interrupted, and that’s tap-strafing.

Unless you’re a seasoned Apex Legends player, any footage of tap-strafing is hard to recognize, but the below video should give you some idea of how it works.

A significant point to consider here is that this technique was community-discovered, not intentionally implemented by developer Respawn Entertainment, and therefore an exploit. So come patch 10.1, tap-strafing is getting removed from Apex Legends.

“After much consideration and debate, we’ve decided to remove tap-strafing from Apex Legends,” said Respawn Entertainment in a statement on Twitter. “Our reasoning: It’s inaccessible, lacks readability/counterplay, and is exacerbated by movement abilities.”

The reaction from most Apex Legends pros is, well, not particularly kind — ranging from nasty comments hurled Respawn Entertainment to advocating that players should play something else in protest. The blowback is downright bananas.
