Seemingly baited by Ja Morant, Simmons got his sixth foul with the Nets down 124-118 with 3:52 left.  “It wasn’t a foul. He called it a foul, made a mistake. It is what it is,” Simmons said. “Really frustrating. But all I can do now is support my team from the bench. But f–k yeah it’s frustrating. It’s not a foul. That was bulls–t. It’s frustrating because it’s a late game, it’s fourth quarter, it’s a physical close game. It’s the NBA. This is not college. It’s not high school. Some people are going to get hit, some people will bleed. It’s basketball.”

DeRozan had 32 points, including 12 points in the fourth quarter. But he shot 3-for-9 in the final frame and Beal will take that, knowing what happened in January. Beal requested to guard DeRozan after he was fouled by Deni Avdija with 3:29 to go. DeRozan was 8-of-9 from the free throw line at that point and Beal felt he was less likely to get calls if he was being guarded by another star. DeRozan did get to the line for two more shots, but Beal felt he was allowed to defend with more contact. “Let me give him a different look. Let me mess with the ball, jab at the ball, tap his elbow without the ref looking. Doing little stuff that I can get away with because they were a little whistle-happy down there,” Beal said. -via NBC Sports / October 22, 2022

Watch the refs ridiculously blow DPI, cost Cowboys TD after big Pollard run

After entering the red zone thanks to an electric 46-yard run, the referees missed Noah Brown mugged in the endzone, killing the drive. | From @CDBurnett7

After two drives with Matt Farniok at left guard, the Cowboys moved Jason Peters into the role. The returns came on the first play with Peters as running back Tony Pollard broke loose behind the nine-time Pro Bowler.

Following the 46-yard gain, Dallas set up shop in the Giants’ red zone and looked poised to score the first touchdown of the game. After a pair of short gains on first and second down, quarterback Cooper Rush threw an anticipation throw intended for wide receiver Noah Brown, who was dragged to the ground by a New York defender.

In a case of home cooking, the referees kept the laundry in their pockets and there was clear frustration from the Cowboys on the field and the sideline. Dallas still came out of the drive with a field goal, but it could’ve been a touchdown after a penalty in the endzone.

Week 2 Studs and Duds from Saints’ loss against Buccaneers

Who made the biggest impacts in Week 2, for good and bad? Studs and Duds from Saints’ loss against Buccaneers, via @DillySanders:

The New Orleans Saints dropped a very frustrating game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2 of the 2022 NFL season. The defense largely had a great showing, but weren’t backed up at all by the offense. Let’s break down the game’s most impactful Saints players (for good and bad):

Referee Scott Novak’s crew assigned to work Chiefs-Cardinals game

The #Chiefs will get Scott Novak as their referee for the first time since 2020 when they face the #Cardinals on Sunday.

Fourth-year NFL referee Scott Novak and his crew are set to officiate the Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 1 game against the Arizona Cardinals according to Football Zebras.

Novak began his officiating career working in the Big 12 conference, while also participating in the NFL’s officiating development program. In 2014, he was hired by the league as a field judge. He was promoted to the referee position at the start of the 2019 NFL season after Pete Morelli and Walt Coleman retired as officials.

Novak and his crew last officiated a Chiefs game in 2020, during the team’s 32-29 win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 15. During that game, his crew called five penalties on Kansas City for 54 yards to 10 penalties on New Orleans for 93 yards.

The Cardinals have seen Novak much more recently in a game. He officiated their Week 17 win over the Dallas Cowboys just last season. During that game, his crew called seven penalties for 45 yards against Arizona and 10 penalties for 88 yards against Dallas.

Last season, Novak’s crew called the fourth-most penalties in the NFL with 213 total penalty calls. Offensive holding (46), False Start (41) and Defensive Pass Interference (20) were the top penalties called by his crew.
