The Detroit Red Wings (26-30-7) visit the New York Islanders (27-25-9) Thursday at UBS Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Red Wings vs. Islanders odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.
The Red Wings are coming off a statement win, 6-3 at home, against Philadelphia Tuesday, after acquiring C Oskar Sundqvist from the St. Louis Blues at the trade deadline. “Sunny” had an empty-netter, an assist and was a plus-3 in his debut with the club.
The Isles had a convincing 3-0 win of their own Tuesday against the visiting Ottawa Senators. The Islanders have won seven of 10 in one of their best stretches of the season.

Red Wings at Islanders projected goalies
Thomas Greiss (8-10-1, 3.77 GAA, .887 SV%) vs. Ilya Sorokin (21-13-7, 2.30 GAA, .927 SV%, 6 SO)
Greiss hasn’t won in more than a month, and albeit two appearances were in relief, but he has a 7.99 GAA in March. Despite the circumstances, he has let 13 goals past on 75 shots in four games since March 1.
G Igor Shesterkin gets all the headlines for the Rangers, but Sorokin has been nearly as good. His 6 shutouts are second in the league. Sorokin has a 1.86 GAA this month, and that includes a 4-goal game against Colorado. The Wings have beaten Sorokin twice this season as he stopped 63 of 69 shots.

Red Wings at Islanders odds, lines, picks and predictions
Prediction
Islanders 3, Red Wings 1
Money line
Despite the big win Tuesday, Detroit has lost seven of its last nine. The Islanders (-220) are solid at home, and they have a clear goaltender advantage. However, I can’t justify backing them for more than twice your return.
PASS.
Against the spread
The Isles don’t score a ton of goals, and the Red Wings got the best of them twice in one-goal games in December in Detroit. New York is locked in, though, with the trade deadline whispers in the rear-view mirror. Four of the seven wins during this 10-game window have been by 2 or more goals.
It’s a LEAN, but let’s take the ISLANDERS -1.5 (+115).
Over/Under
New York has the fifth-best defense in the NHL with 2.6 goals allowed per game. Neither offense is in the top 20, and this looks like a pretty safe UNDER 5.5 (+105).
