LSU the favorite to land five-star cornerback after visit for Alabama game

The Tigers’ already elite 2023 class could get even better if they can close with Desmond Ricks.

LSU was trending in the right direction for five-star IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) cornerback [autotag]Desmond Ricks[/autotag] before the Alabama game.

After the huge win, the interest between the Tigers and Ricks skyrocketed. LSU is now an 85% favorite to land the No. 12 player in the country and the No. 2 overall cornerback in the 2023 class.

LSU currently has the No. 4 overall recruiting class for 2023 with 25 commits. A commitment from Ricks would catapult the Tigers into the top three, at least. LSU has also received a crystal ball prediction for Ricks on 247Sports. Ricks plans to announce his commitment on Dec. 23. Talk about a Merry Christmas.

If [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] can make the SEC Championship and land Ricks in the month of December, he will have exceeded all expectations in Year 1 on the Bayou. LSU has a chance to clinch the SEC West this week with a win over Arkansas and an Alabama win over Ole Miss.

LSU is predicted to land five-star safety after win over Alabama

The Tigers are in a good position to add Javien Toviano to their top-five 2023 class.

[autotag]Javien Toviano[/autotag] is a five-star, 6-foot, 185-pound safety from Arlington, Texas, where he plays for Martin High School. The Warriors are 9-1 this season and 6-0 in district play as they head into the playoffs next Friday.

Toviano was in attendance for the LSU-Alabama game in Death Valley as the Tigers knocked off the Crimson Tide in overtime to put them at the top of the SEC West. As you can see in the video below, Toviano was one of the many that rushed the field after [autotag]Mason Taylor[/autotag] scored the two-point conversion to win the game against the Tide.

Currently, the LSU 2023 recruiting class ranks as the No. 4 class in the country, but the addition of a five-star safety could definitely bump the Tigers up a spot or two, and there could be more on the way before National Signing Day. [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] has done a great job on and off the field this season, and hopefully for LSU, it continues.

LSU is trending to land four-star athlete Khai Prean

The Tigers could be about to add another top prospect from Louisiana.

According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, LSU is trending toward landing 2023 four-star athlete [autotag]Khai Prean[/autotag]. Prean is a 6-foot, 180-pound athlete from Saint James, Louisiana, where he plays for St. James High School.

[autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and the Tigers have been on fire in the recruiting trail here lately as they landed a commitment from four-star quarterback [autotag]Rickie Collins[/autotag] this past week and are the favorite to land [autotag]Kylin Jackson[/autotag], a four-star safety from Zachary, Louisiana, as well.

LSU also swept in and got a commitment from five-star wide receiver [autotag]Shelton Sampson Jr.[/autotag] Project ‘Recruit the Boot’ is going according to plan as far as the 2023 class is concerned. As of now, the Tigers recruiting class ranks as the No. 6 class in the country according to 247Sports.

If the Tigers can land Jackson and Prean, they will definitely move into the top five.

LSU reportedly leading for top-50 2023 defensive back

Javien Toviano would be the best commit in LSU’s 2023 class, as things currently stand.

LSU is piecing together a very nice 2023 recruiting class, and coach Brian Kelly’s group may be about to get even more talented.

According to a report from 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong, the Tigers are leading the way for four-star Martin (Arlington, Texas) cornerback Javien Toviano, the No. 34 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class.

“I think the way it’s set up right now, LSU’s the team to beat for him,” Wiltfong said. “… But LSU, I think that they’re the ones that are recruiting Javien Toviano the hardest and the best and with that, I think that they’re the one to beat.”

Wiltfong also said that Toviano has become a priority for the Tigers.

Currently, Texas holds the only Crystal Ball projection for Toviano. On3, which lists him as a safety, gives the Tigers just a 9.7% chance to land him. However, since receiving an offer from LSU on Jan. 20, he has taken two trips to Baton Rouge — one in March and another last weekend.

The new coaching staff has put a lot of effort into pursuing Toviano, and if it lands him, he would be the highest-rated recruit in the class, as things currently stand.

4-star Baton Rouge quarterback decommits from Purdue, considered LSU lean

The Tigers have quickly become the favorite to land Ricky Collins since he backed off his pledge on Monday night.

The wait for a quarterback in the 2023 class has been drawn out for the LSU Tigers, but it may be coming to an end sooner rather than later.

Coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] got some good news late Monday night as four-star Woodlawn (Baton Rouge) quarterback [autotag]Rickie Collins[/autotag] decommitted from Purdue after spending nearly a year pledged to the Boilermakers.

After missing on several of the class’ top targets like [autotag]Jaden Rashada[/autotag], [autotag]Dante Moore[/autotag] and [autotag]Arch Manning[/autotag], Collins quickly rose up LSU’s board. It is one of several schools that has been ramping up efforts with him in recent weeks.

Shortly following his decommitment, 247Sports Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong placed a Crystal Ball in the Tigers’ favor for Collins, and he was shortly joined by five other predictions for LSU.

On3 also gives LSU a 97.8% chance of landing him.

Collins is the No. 177 overall prospect and No. 13 quarterback, according to the 247Sports Composite. While the Tigers have enough depth to go without a quarterback this cycle, that’s not necessarily the safest approach in the transfer portal era.

It seems that may not be the case, though, and some more good news with Collins will likely be coming down the pipeline shortly.
