5-star WR trims list, still considering LSU

The Tigers are looking to pull off their biggest recruiting win yet in the 2024 class.

After signing a talented wide receiver class in 2023, LSU is looking to land a premier player at the position in 2024.

Five-star Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview receiver [autotag]Mike Matthews[/autotag] recently trimmed the list of programs he’s considering down to 12, and LSU made the cut. Coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and the Tigers are joined by Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Auburn, Colorado, USC, Tennessee, Michigan, Texas A&M, Arkansas and Ohio State.

Matthews is an elite prospect in the 2024 class. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound player currently ranks as the No. 2 receiver and No. 6 overall player nationally, per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. LSU offered Matthews back in June, but it hasn’t gotten him on campus for a visit yet.

His recruitment still seems to be fairly open-ended. He holds no Crystal Ball projections from 247Sports, and though Georgia is a slim favorite per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, there seems to be no clear leader at this moment.

LSU will likely need a visit soon (and a successful one, at that) to stay in the mix here, but landing a player like Matthews — who would immediately become the highest-ranked commit in the class — would work wonders for a class that already currently ranks second nationally.

LSU makes final 8 for 4-star wide receiver

The Tigers are one of a star-studded list of finalists for Bredell Richardson.

[autotag]Bredell Richardson[/autotag] is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound, four-star wide receiver from the class of 2024. Richardson is from Tampa, where he plays for Carrollwood Day High School. The Carrollwood Day Patriots finished the 2022 season 6-4 with a loss to Clearwater Central Catholic in the second round of the 1M District 3 playoffs.

Richardson recently released his final eight schools he is considering and the LSU Tigers made the list. The Tigers join Michigan, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Michigan State, Alabama, Colorado and Georgia. Richardson currently has no Crystal Ball projections, but Notre Dame is a 71% favorite to land him per On3.

LSU’s 2024 recruiting class currently ranks as the No. 2 class in the country. So far, that class only consists of one wide receiver, [autotag]Joseph Stone[/autotag] from Langston Hughes High School in Georgia. [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] is going to have to battle against his former team to try and land one of the best wide receivers in the 2024 recruiting class.

LSU offers 4-star wide receiver from Florida

James Madison II hails from high school powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas.

[autotag]James Madison II[/autotag] is a 2024 four-star wide receiver from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he plays for one of the top high school teams in the country, St. Thomas Aquinas. The Aquinas Raiders are currently 13-0 and play for the state championship next Thursday against Homestead. The Raiders are looking to win their fourth state championship in a row.

Film Analysis: The most recent highlights posted from Madison were from the Spring and in the four minutes of the film, you can see his athleticism as he hurdles defenders. He shows off his speed on a few go routes in man-to-man coverage. He will be a guy to keep an eye on in the 2024 class.
