Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Tampa Bay Rays (28-31) and Baltimore Orioles (37-19) conclude their 3-game series Sunday. First pitch from Oriole Park at Camden Yards is slated for 1:35 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Rays vs. Orioles odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Orioles lead 2-0

Tampa Bay tries to avoid the sweep on Sunday after starting RHP Taj Bradley gave up 9 ER over 3 1/3 IP in Saturday’s 9-5 loss. 1B Yandy Diaz had 3 RBIs for the Rays, who have lost 9 of their last 12 games. Diaz homered in the Rays’ 3-1 loss on Friday.

The Orioles belted 4 HRs in the romp of their division rival. 1B Ryan Mountcastle went yard twice (4 RBIs), while RF Anthony Santander and 3B Jordan Westburg each parked one. Baltimore has won 8 of its last 9 games.

Rays at Orioles projected starters

RHP Zack Littell vs. LHP Cole Irvin

Littell (2-3, 3.47 ERA) makes his 12th start. He has a 1.22 WHIP, 1.4 BB/9 and 9.2 K/9 in 62 1/3 IP

  • Last start: Loss, 7 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 9 K in 3-0 home defeat to the Oakland A’s Tuesday
  • Only start vs Orioles: No decision, 4 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 0 BB, 3 K in 5-4 road loss Sept. 17, 2023

Irvin (5-2, 2.84 ERA) makes his 9th start. He has a 1.13 WHIP, 2.0 BB/9 and 6.4 K/9 in 50 2/3 IP in 10 appearances

  • Last start: Win, 5 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 6 K in 11-3 win over the Boston Red Sox
  • Career vs Rays: 1-2, 4.19 ERA (19 1/3 IP, 9 ER) in 4 games (3 starts)

Rays at Orioles picks and predictions

Prediction

Orioles 5, Rays 2

Moneyline.

PASS.

I’m confident that the Orioles (-132) will complete the sweep on Sunday afternoon but I don’t want to pay that juice. I’ll save my wager for the run line and/or total.

Run line/Against the spread

BET ORIOLES -1.5 (+155).

I love getting those juicy plus odds to cover the run line. When Baltimore wins, it usually wins comfortably. In their last 10 wins, they have won all of them by 2-plus runs, including the first 2 games of this series. It doesn’t hurt that Irvin has also won 5 of his last 6 decisions.

The Orioles are trying to keep pace with the red-hot Yankees. This is a game they should win at home, where they are 21-11. The Rays are 11-13 away from Tampa Bay.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 8.5 (+102).

I was actually pleasantly surprised to see that these 2 teams have played to the Under in 7 of their last 10 meetings. That made my decision even easier to bet those plus odds on the Under.

Irvin has been fantastic since late April. He has allowed a grand total of 2 ER over his last 5 starts (30 2/3 IP). I have no reason to believe that this Rays team will be able to break out against Cole.

Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Tampa Bay Rays (28-29) and Baltimore Orioles (35-19) open a 3-game series Friday. First pitch from Oriole Park at Camden Yards is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Rays vs. Orioles odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Baltimore won 8-5 in 2023

Tampa Bay outlasted the Oakland A’s 6-5 in 12 innings at Tropicana Field Thursday afternoon. The Rays have won 3 of 4 and have certainly endured an up-and-down 2nd half of the month. Tampa began a 4-game division win streak May 15 with 2 victories over both the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox but followed that up by dropping 5 straight.

Since seeing their sweepless series streak snapped by the St. Louis Cardinals, the Orioles have rattled off wins in 6 of their last 7 games. Entering Friday, SS Gunnar Henderson is tied with New York Yankees CF Aaron Judge and  Houston Astros RF Kyle Tucker for the most HRs in MLB with 18.

Rays at Orioles projected starters

RHP Aaron Civale vs. RHP Albert Suarez

Civale (2-4, 5.72 ERA) makes his 12th start. He has a 1.34 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 9.1 K/9 in 56 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 5 K in 7-4 home loss in 11 innings to Kansas City Royals Saturday
  • Only 3 pitchers out of 102 with at least 50 IP have a higher home-run-to-fly-ball (HR/FB) percentage than Civale (16.9%)

Suarez (4-2, 2.60 ERA) makes his 5th start and 12th appearance. He has a 0.95 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9 and 7.4 K/9 in 29 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 4 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 2 BB, 3 K in 5-3 win at Chicago White Sox Saturday
  • Has surrendered just 1 HR this season (0 in 14 IP in May)

Rays at Orioles picks and predictions

Prediction

Baltimore 6, Tampa Bay 3

Moneyline

BET ORIOLES (-136).

Henderson blasted a grand slam in Wednesday’s game vs. Boston and possesses the highest HR/FB percentage vs. RHP (37.8%) out of 179 qualified hitters. Expect the MVP contender (+500 at FanDuel Sportsbook) to deliver against a homer-prone starter and Rays bullpen that sports the 4th-highest team ERA (4.37) in the AL.

Run line/Against the spread

SPRINKLE ORIOLES -1.5 (+136).

Baltimore LF Colton Cowser, who is a contender for AL Rookie of the Year (+750 at FanDuel Sportsbook), has crossed the plate at least once in 4 straight games. Henderson and Cowser, along with C Adley Rutschman and 3B Jordan Westburg, make up an outstanding young Orioles core that is consistently delivering, as are the veterans of the Orioles lineup. Orioles 1B Ryan Mountcastle and RF Anthony Santander have each reached base in 7 or more straight games, and 1B Ryan O’Hearn has the 2nd-highest OBP vs. RHP on Baltimore (.359), behind only Westburg (.373).

Only the White Sox have hit fewer HRs (39) in the AL than the Rays (45). With the left-field wall pushed backed at Oriole Park, it’s tough to expect any Rays hitters to keep their team in it by going deep.

Over/Under

PASS.

I lean Over but am going to pass with how inept Tampa Bay’s offense has been overall this season.

Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Tampa Bay Rays (92-58) and Baltimore Orioles (92-56) wrap up a 4-game series Sunday. First pitch from Oriole Park at Camden Yards is slated for 1:35 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Rays vs. Orioles odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Orioles lead 7-5

The Rays lost 8-0 Saturday but are still 7-2 over their last 9 games. Tampa has been outscored 12-11 despite winning the first 2 games of the series and is 1 game back of Baltimore for the AL East lead.

Baltimore snapped a 4-game losing skid with Saturday’s victory. The O’s got 8-scoreless innings from RHP Grayson Rodriguez in a game they needed to stop the bleeding after dropping 5 of their last 7. The Orioles are 44-30 at home this season.

Rays at Orioles projected starters

RHP Zack Littell vs. RHP Dean Kremer

Littell (3-6, 4.25 ERA) makes his 13th start and 26th appearance. He has a 1.16 WHIP, 1.0 BB/9 and 7.4 K/9 in 78 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 7 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, 8 K in 3-2 loss at Minnesota Twins Tuesday
  • 2023 road stats: 2-4, 3.64 ERA (42 IP, 17 ER), .259 OBA over 7 starts and 7 relief appearances
  • Never faced the Orioles as a starter

Kremer (12-5, 4.25 ERA) will make his 30th start. He has a 1.32 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 8.0 K/9 in 159 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 4 1/3 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, 4 BB, 2 K in 11-4 home victory vs. St. Louis Cardinals Monday
  • 2023 home stats: 7-2, 4.78 ERA (92 1/3 IP, 49 ER), .253 opponent batting average (OBA) in 17 starts
  • 2023 vs. Rays: Win, 6 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 4 K in 1 start, a 2-1 home victory May 10

Rays at Orioles picks and predictions

Prediction

Orioles 4, Rays 3

Moneyline

PASS.

I lean to the Orioles (-120) to win this game, but I don’t feel confident enough to make this bet. These two teams have played basically even this season and this is mostly a coin flip.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

You should never force bets and I don’t love the Orioles enough — like I said in the moneyline section — to bet them to cover this run line. I would not mind taking the Rays getting the run and a half but not at -200 odds. Just avoid this and focus on the total.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 8.5 (-105).

These teams have gone under this run total in 6 of their last 7 meetings.

Kremer has pitched 6 scoreless innings in two of his last 3 starts against this Rays squad. He has also allowed 1 earned run or less in 3 of his last 4 starts overall.

Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Baltimore Orioles (91-56) welcome the Tampa Bay Rays (92-57) to Oriole Park at Camden Yards Saturday for the 3rd game of a 4-game set. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Rays vs. Orioles odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Orioles lead 6-5

The Orioles suffered a 4th straight loss with a 7-1 defeat Friday, closing as +112 underdogs. Baltimore also lost the series opener 4-3 Thursday and is now tied with Tampa Bay atop the AL East, despite doing 5-5 over its last 10 games.

The Orioles are 43-30 at home on the year while the Rays are 42-32 on the road and have surged as of late, winning 8 of their last 10 games.

Rays at Orioles projected starters

RHP Tyler Glasnow vs. RHP Grayson Rodriguez

Glasnow (9-5, 3.15 ERA) makes his 19th start. He has a 1.04 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 12.1 K/9 through 105 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 4 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 8 K in 7-5 road win vs. Minnesota Twins Monday
  • 2023 road stats: 5-3, 3.48 ERA in 54 1/3 IP in 9 starts

Rodriguez (5-4, 4.88 ERA) makes his 21st start. He has a 1.39 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9 and 9.6 K/9 through 103 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 4 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 6 K in 7-3 road loss vs. Boston Red Sox Sunday
  • 2023 home stats: 2-2, 5.65 ERA in 51 IP in 10 starts

  • Over/Under (O/U): 7.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Rays at Orioles picks and predictions

Prediction

Rays 5, Orioles 3

Moneyline

BET RAYS (-125).

The Rays have been on fire as of late, winning 7 of their last 8. They have won 2 of the last 3 times Glasnow has been on the mound. Tampa Bay is the 2nd-best team in the MLB following a win at 56-35, and it is the best team in the MLB as a favorite in at least 10 games at 81-42.

That dominance, and the recent struggles of Baltimore, make this a reasonable play. The pitching discrepancies help as well given Rodriguez has allowed at least 7 hits in 3 of his last 4 starts. Expect Tampa Bay to stay hot and take RAYS (-125).

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

The value on either side isn’t great.

The Rays have had 3 of their last 4 games finish within a run, so the (+140) line to win by margin isn’t enough.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 7.5 (-115).

The Rays are 79-66-4 O/U on the season, and they have gone Over in 4 of their last 8 games. Outside of their 2 losses to Tampa Bay, Baltimore’s offense has been hot lately.

Over their last 8 games, the Orioles have scored 10 or more runs 3 times. They have gone Over in 6 of their last 10 games. For a partial unit, take OVER 7.5 (-115).

Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Tampa Bay Rays (91-57) and Baltimore Orioles (91-55) tussle Friday as they continue their key 4-game AL East series. First pitch from Oriole Park at Camden Yards is slated for 7:05 p.m. ET (AppleTV+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Rays vs. Orioles odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Orioles lead 6-4

Tampa Bay took Thursday’s opener 4-3, and the Rays are now just 1 game behind Baltimore in the AL East. That marks the closest Tampa has been to Baltimore since July 22 which was just a couple days after the Rays had been overtaken by the Orioles for the division lead.

Baltimore has lost 3 straight games. The Birds own a .561 OPS and are just 2-for-21 with runners in scoring position over the 3 setbacks.

Rays at Orioles projected starters

RHP Zach Eflin vs. RHP Jack Flaherty

Eflin (14-8, 3.53 ERA) makes his 29th start. He has a 1.05 WHIP, 1.3 BB/9 and 9.2 K/9 through 160 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 5 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 6 K in 6-3 home win vs. Seattle Mariners Sunday
  • 2023 Road stats: 3-4, 3.92 ERA in 62 IP across 11 starts
  • Career starts vs. Orioles: 2-2, 3.46 ERA in 26 IP across 4 starts (2018-23)

Flaherty (8-8, 4.98 ERA) is tabbed for his 27th start. He has logged a 1.57 WHIP, 4.3 BB/9 and 9.0 K/9 through 137 1/3 IP for the Orioles and St. Louis Cardinals.

  • Last start: No-decision, 3 1/3 IP, 5 R (4 ER), 8 H, 1 BB, 3 K in 13-12 win at Boston Red Sox Saturday
  • 2023 Home stats: 4-4, 5.54 ERA in 52 IP across 10 starts
  • Has never faced the Rays as a starter
  • Has been hurt by a .350 batting average on balls in play (BABIP)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Rays at Orioles picks and predictions

Prediction

Rays 4, Orioles 3

Moneyline

There has been some aggregate team lean on the Rays (everything but starting pitching) for several weeks now, so it’s not a big surprise they might be tied for the AL East lead after this one.

Tampa would be a play at -115, but there is some bullpen-fatigue edge on the home side and a bit more to like in Flaherty than what pops on the surface.

PASS.

Run line/Against the spread

Same as above but add more juice and say no that much quicker. PASS.

Over/Under

The Under is 4-1 across the last 5 Tampa-Baltimore games.

Flaherty owns a Boeing 7.16 ERA over his last 6 starts, but that has come alongside some shaky, hard-to-repeat marginal rates that affect run scoring a great deal (.363 BABIP for instance). There are warts to his line to be sure, but Flaherty may be unfairly faded here by some.

Both offenses are a bit too far out over their skis as far as production vs. expected performance. The price here offers good leverage.

BACK THE UNDER 8.5 (-105).

Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Tampa Bay Rays (90-57) and Baltimore Orioles (91-54) tussle in the Thursday night opener of a 4-game series in Charm City. First pitch from Oriole Park at Camden Yards is slated for 7:15 p.m. ET (FOX). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Rays vs. Orioles odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Orioles lead 6-3

Tampa is continuing a road trip that opened with the club taking 2-of-3 games at the Minnesota Twins to start the week. The Rays have batted .269/.351/.493 (.843 OPS) while going 5-1 over their last 6 games.

Baltimore, which leads Tampa Bay by 2 games in the AL East, won 7 straight games from Sept. 2-9. However, the Orioles have gone just 1-3 since. They are looking to win their first season series against Tampa since 2016.

Rays at Orioles projected starters

RHP Aaron Civale vs. RHP Kyle Bradish

Civale (7-3, 2.96 ERA) is making his 21st start this season. He has registered a 1.12 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 7.8 K/9 through 112 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 3 K in 7-5 home win vs. Seattle Mariners Saturday
  • 2023 Road stats: 4-2, 2.03 ERA in 53 1/3 IP across 10 starts

Rays at Orioles picks and predictions

Prediction

Rays 5, Orioles 4

Moneyline

Civale’s surface numbers have fallen off of late but perhaps unfairly with some unkind rates around the margins.

Both bullpens have had good numbers over the last month or so. For the Rays, that performance exhibits some real growth, and the Tampa ‘pen looks to be a strength heading down the stretch. Baltimore relievers have clocked a 2.95 ERA since Aug. 1, but that figure has been artificially tamped down by a .269 batting average on balls in play and a kind rate of fly balls leaving the park.

The Rays are 7-1 in their last 8 road-series openers and they are the lean with plus-money odds. However, Bradish is a tough customer, especially at Camden Yards where he owns a 2.26 ERA and 1.01 WHIP.

FanDuel Sportsbook offers the best price here: BET TAMPA BAY (+118). Consider some partial-unit outlay unless the tag reaches +122.

Run line/Against the spread

Attractive pricing on the Rays here. Some bettors may want to consider a RAYS +1.5 (-165) play if they cannot get the visitors at +120 on the moneyline.

Over/Under

Tip of the cap to the market here. There is some reason to project this one getting well past the combined starter and bullpen ERAs, but bettors pounced but the profit air is out of the balloon.

PASS.

Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Tampa Bay Rays (29-8) finish a 3-game series against the Baltimore Orioles (23-13) on Wednesday. First pitch from Oriole Park at Camden Yards is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. ET. Season series: Tied 1-1

The Rays lost 4-2 to the Orioles on Tuesday, ending a 2-game win streak. Tampa Bay is 7-3 in its last 10 contests and is 5.5 games ahead of Baltimore in the AL East.

Orioles C Adley Rutschman hit a 2-run shot Tuesday to give him his 5th home run of the season. Baltimore snapped a 3-game losing skid with the win.

Rays at Orioles projected starters

LHP Jalen Beeks vs. RHP Dean Kremer

Beeks (1-2, 6.75 ERA) makes his 3rd start and 14th appearance. He has a 1.44 WHIP, 5.6 BB/9 and 6.2 K/9 through 16 IP.

  • Hasn’t logged more than 3 innings in either of his first 2 starts, so is likely to serve as an opener Wednesday
  • His BB/9 is inflated as he walked 5 batters on Apr. 17 vs. the Cincinnati Reds but has only 5 combined walks in his other 12 appearances this season

Kremer (3-1, 5.80 ERA) makes his 8th start. He has a 1.54 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 7.1 K/9 through 35 2/3 IP.

  • Has given up 4-plus ER in 5 of his first 7 starts

Rays at Orioles picks and predictions

Prediction

Rays 6, Orioles 3

Moneyline

I’ll take the RAYS (-120) on the road in Wednesday’s showdown despite that they’re rolling out Beeks and a bullpen game. Tampa Bay has tallied a 36-15 record against Baltimore in the last 51 meetings.

Run line/Against the spread

The RAYS -1.5 (+135) are solid value with Tampa Bay’s bullpen likely getting a ton of work on Wednesday. Tampa’s bullpen has the 3rd-best ERA (3.01) and the best opponents’ batting average (.200) in baseball this season.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 9.5 (-115).

The Rays should be able to produce a decent number of runs on Kremer, but Tampa Bay’s bullpen should handle business after Beeks exits the game. The Under is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings between these teams in Baltimore.

Rays at Orioles projected starters

RHP Zach Eflin vs. RHP Grayson Rodriguez

Eflin (4-0, 2.25 ERA) makes his 6th start. He has a 0.96 WHIP, 1.0 BB/9 and 10.0 K/9 through 28 IP.

  • Has struck out 5-plus batters in 4 of his 5 starts and he’s walked only 3 batters all season
  • The Rays are 5-0 in his starts

Rays at Orioles picks and predictions

Prediction

Rays 5, Orioles 2

Moneyline

I’ll take the RAYS (-130) on the road in Tuesday’s showdown considering how well they’ve been playing to start the season. While the Rays and Orioles are both 5-0 in their last 5 games with their respective pitchers on the mound, I’ll side with the veteran over the rookie.

Run line/Against the spread

RAYS -1.5 (+135) is my play on the run line with Tampa Bay’s success against RHP this season. Rodriguez struggled in his last start and the Rays boast a league-best 138 wRC+ against right-handed hurlers thus far.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

LEANA UNDER 8 (-105).

Eflin has been excellent for the Rays to begin the season, allowing more than 2 earned runs in only 1 start and posting his highest K/9 since the 2020 season.

Rays at Orioles picks and predictions

Prediction

Rays 5, Orioles 3

Moneyline

PASS.

Tampa Bay (-175) is 5-1 in its last 6 road games and should win again Monday, but there is no need to pay the higher price on the moneyline when the Rays should win by multiple runs. Bet the run line and/or total instead.

Run line/Against the spread

BET RAYS -1.5 (-105).

McClanahan has not recorded a loss this season and Gibson struggled last time out. Baltimore seems to be coming back down to Earth after a hot start, while Tampa Bay has won 8 of 10. The Rays are 5-1 in their last 6 games after allowing 5 or more runs and the Orioles should struggle to keep it close with their disadvantage at starting pitcher.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

BET UNDER 8.5 (-110).

The Under is 3-0-1 in Tampa Bay’s last 4 games after allowing 5 or more runs and 11-5-1 in its last 17 vs. teams with a winning record.

The Under has hit in 8 of Baltimore’s last 11 home games after a road trip of 7 or more days and should cash again Monday with McClanahan on the mound for the Rays.

Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Tampa Bay Rays (53-45) and Baltimore Orioles (49-49) meet Thursday for the final game of a 4-game series. First pitch from Oriole Park at Camden Yards is scheduled for 12:35 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rays vs. Orioles odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Rays lead series 8-7

The Rays eked out a 6-4 victory in 10 innings Wednesday, posting their first win in the first 3 games thanks to a 2-run game-winning double by Randy Arozorena. That got Colin Poche off the hook for the loss after blowing the save in the 9th.

The Orioles lost RHP Tyler Wells to lower back discomfort in the 5th inning, but received decent bullpen help and forced extras thanks to a solo homer from Jorge Mateo in the 9th.

Rays at Orioles projected starters

LHP Ryan Yarbrough vs. RHP Jordan Lyles

The Rays haven’t named an official starters but Yarbrough (0-5, 5.61 ERA) is expected to make his 8th start and 11th overall appearance. He has a 1.52 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 5.4 K/9 through 43 1/3 IP.

  • Is 0-3 with a 5.27 ERA with a .319 opponent batting average in 27 1/3 IP in 3 road starts and 3 road appearances.
  • All 7 HR he has allowed this season has come in road games.
  • Has no record with 8 K and 0 HR allowed across 9 1/3 IP in a start and a relief appearance vs. Batimore this season.

Lyles (6-8, 4.79 ERA) makes his 21st start. He has a 1.45 WHIP, 2.9 BB/9 and 7.4 K/9 in 112 2/3 IP.

  • Is 2-2 with a 3.00 ERA and just 1 HR allowed in 48 IP in 8 home starts, while allowing 15 HR in 64 2/3 IP in 12 road outings.
  • Has managed an 0-2 record with a 12.91 ERA with 3 HR allowed in 7 2/3 IP across 2 road starts vs. TB.

Rays at Orioles picks and predictions

Prediction

Orioles 7, Rays 5

Money line

The ORIOLES (-115) are worth playing on the road in this getaway day finale. Lyles has been shaky all season, but he has managed to keep the ball in the park at home. The Rays (-105) punched him around pretty good in 2 starts in St. Petersburg, but he and Baltimore will get revenge in this one.

Run line/Against the spread

It’s pricey, but the ORIOLES +1.5 (-190) are worth playing lightly in this finale. The winning margin has been 2.7 runs per game in the first 3 outings of this series, and there is no reason to believe the Baltimore bats won’t come alive against Yarbrough and the bullpen of Tampa Bay.

Over/Under

The OVER 9.5 (+110) is again the play Thursday.

We needed some late-inning heroics, and all those cheers you heard were from Over bettors when Mateo forced extras, tied 4-4, with a total of 8.5.

The Over has connected in 6 of the last 7 games against AL East teams for the Rays while going 7-2 in their past 9 against a right-handed starting pitcher.

The Over has hit at a 7-2-1 pace across the Orioles’ past 10 games while hitting at a 13-4-1 clip in their past 18 vs. AL East teams.
