Louisiana prospect, top LSU target receives 5th star from On3

Zalance Heard continues to shoot up the rankings.

One of the top recruits in Louisiana was given a bump by On3 this week.

According to On3’s rankings, offensive tackle [autotag]Zalance Heard[/autotag] is now a five-star and the 13th-best player in the country. They rate him as the third-best offensive tackle in the class and the second-best player in Louisiana.

On3’s NFL comparison to Heard is Ronnie Stanley, who was the sixth overall pick in 2016.

Heard is a must-get for LSU. Over the years, Louisiana hasn’t always produced a well of talent along the offensive line. The 2023 class will be the second consecutive year the Tigers have had talent on the OL in-state.

If LSU lands Heard one year after landing [autotag]Will Campbell[/autotag], the Tigers would be working with a solid foundation up front. That’s not something LSU has had much of in recent years.

Coincidentally, Heard and Campbell both came from Neville High School in Monroe. Former LSU star [autotag]Rashard Lawrence[/autotag] is a Neville alumnus, as well.

As the Arizona Cardinals report today for media day of mandatory minicamp, we are now 90 days from their regular-season opener at home in State Farms Stadium against the Kansas City Chiefs.

6 Cardinals who could have breakout seasons in 2022

We take a look at which players on the Arizona Cardinals have the best chance of breaking out in 2022.

The Arizona Cardinals hope to get improvement from everyone who was on the roster last season. If everyone improves, then the team will naturally get better.

That isn’t likely to happen, but some players are poised to break out in 2022 to improve to good or even great.

Which players are in the best position to do that?

For now, Cardinals appear to be leaning on youth at several positions

Several second and third-year players are slated for prominent roles, at least early in the free agent period.

We have not yet finished the first week of NFL free agency, but the Arizona Cardinals have not done much. They have re-signed several of their own players and added one player from outside the organization.

It is still early and they could still sign several players, but it appears that they are willing to lean on some youth in key roles.

Which young players appear to be on their way to a prominent role this coming season, barring other moves in free agency?

Cardinals designate DL Rashard Lawrence to return from IR

He had been on injured reserve since November 6 with a calf injury.

The Arizona Cardinals could be getting back some defensive line help soon. No, it isn’t J.J. Watt — at least not yet — but Rashard Lawrence is making his way back.

The team announced Lawrence was designated to return from injured reserve, opening a 21-day window for him to participate in practice and be activated to the 53-man roster.

He was placed on IR on November 6 with a calf injury. His return will be a boost for the run defense. It was the second straight year he landed on injured reserve with a calf injury and then returned.

He has played six games this season, starting five of them, and has four total tackles.

TE Darrell Daniels, DT Rashard Lawrence injured in win over Browns

The two Cardinals exited the game Sunday in the first half, Daniels with a hamstring injury and Lawrence with a calf injury.

The Arizona Cardinals are 6-0 after their 37-14 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. It would appear they came out of the game pretty clean in terms of injuries.

Two players exited the game with injuries and did not return, both in the first half.

Tight end Darrell Daniels left the game with a hamstring injury and did not return. He played 25 offensive snaps and was targeted once as a receiver, but he did not have a catch.

The other injury was to defensive tackle Rashard Lawrence. He only played three defensive snaps in the game. He injured his calf and did not return.

Looking ahead to Week 7, the Cardinals are a little thin on the defensive line right now if Lawrence has to miss any time.

Zach Allen and Corey Peters were placed on the COVID list over the weekend and cannot return until they have no symptoms for 48 hours and have two negative tests, separated by at least 24 hours.

The first injury report of Week 7 will not come out until Wednesday, after their first practice of the week.

Arizona Cardinals 2020 redraft doesn’t change every pick

We make the Cardinals’ 2020 draft selections with the benefit of hindsight.

A year later, we can look at the Arizona Cardinals’ draft class and wonder if they made the right selections. The Cardinals didn’t get many contributions from their rookie class. Linebacker Isaiah Simmons played a limited role. Running back Eno Benjamin was never active. Linebacker Evan Weaver spent the year on the practice squad. Tackle Josh Jones played very few snaps all season. Defensive linemen Leki Fotu and Rashard Lawrence missed time with injuries and got some playing time.

Should the Cardinals have made other selections?

Let’s go back to each pick in last year’s draft and do a redraft.

Rookie DL Rashard Lawrence activated from injured reserve

He had been on IR since October 17. In five games this season, he has three total tackles and two hurries as a rookie.

The Arizona Cardinals announced an addition to the active roster on Tuesday. Defensive lineman Rashard Lawrence, who had previously been designated to return from injured reserve, was reinstated to the 53-man roster.

Lawrence was originally placed on IR on October 17 after suffering a calf injury. He was designated for return on November 11.

It was a move the team had to make or he would revert to IR for the rest of the season.

He apparently had a setback in practice after getting designated for return. He was seen during the open part of practice for a couple of days and then not after that.

His return is needed, as the Cardinals had five defensive linemen on injured reserve. So far this season, in five games of limited action, he had three tackles and two quarterback hurries.

Assuming he is healthy, he should be able to contribute this weekend for the team’s home game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Cardinals sign CB Johnathan Joseph; activate CB Byron Murphy, LB Devon Kennard

The Cardinals make a number of roster moves on Wednesdays.

The Arizona Cardinals announced a flurry of roster moves on Wednesday morning, ahead of their returning to practice to start Week 10.

They added a player, get back a pair of others and deal with some injuries.

Cardinals place OL J.R. Sweezy, DL Rashard Lawrence on IR

Both potentially could return after the bye.

The Arizona Cardinals, wrapping up their week of practice in Week 6, have announced a couple of moves with injured players. They announced that starting right guard J.R. Sweezy and rookie defensive lineman Rashard Lawrence have been placed on injured reserve.

Sweezy suffered an elbow injury last week and did not practice all week. Lawrence also got hurt in Week 5, suffering a calf injury.

That will free up two roster spots. One will likely be taken by safety Jalen Thompson, who has been designated to return from injured reserve after missing the last four games.

Sweezy and Lawrence will be out a minimum of three weeks, but could potentially return after their bye week.

Sweezy will likely be replaced in the starting lineup by Justin Murray.
