CBS Sports lists Ravens’ roster highly in latest rankings

CBS Sports listed the Ravens’ roster highly in their latest roster rankings

The Baltimore Ravens have built one of the best rosters in the NFL over the course of their franchise history. They bring in a new batch of talented players every year through multiple different avenues, and stack depth on depth to make sure they always have what they need for both the present and the future.

When ranking each NFL roster, Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports ranked Baltimore in the top 10 at No. 10, but that came as a shock to some. Some believed that the Ravens should have been higher on the list, especially considering the balance of star power and depth that they currently boast. Benjamin first started by talking about the offense.

“They’ve seemingly doubled down on a run-first approach with Lamar Jackson under center, jettisoning Marquise Brown (and a more proven WR corps) in favor of added responsibility for tight end Mark Andrews and a stable of rehabbing rushers, including J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards. But they know how to run it well! And the line, presumably with a healthier Ronnie Stanley back at left tackle, should be improved with a pair of new starters in Tyler Linderbaum and Morgan Moses.”

Benjamin then added his thoughts on the defense.

“The defense is really where Baltimore could make its money, as lynchpins like Marcus Peters and Marlon Humphrey return from injury. More impressive is the youth they’ve added at each level: Travis Jones up front, David Ojabo off the edge, and Kyle Hamilton on the back end. Paired with ex-Saints standout Marcus Williams, Hamilton has the versatility to transform the Ravens back to one of the NFL’s feistiest contenders.”

There are arguments that Baltimore should be at least ranked above the Philadelphia Eagles or even the Green Bay Packers. The Ravens addressed multiple key areas of need during the offseason while retaining most of their talent from last season, and that combined with stars returning from injury has them with one of the better NFL rosters.

Evaluating talent can be tough, but the top-four teams on Benjamin’s list seem to be spot on. The offseason is long, so it’s always fun to see what kind of lists come out.  Either way, the Baltimore still has one of the top rosters in the NFL.

Rutgers HC Greg Schiano has high praise for the Wisconsin defense

Rutgers HC Greg Schiano has high praise for the Wisconsin defense

Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano held his game-week press conference today in advance of Wisconsin’s contest in Piscataway, New Jersey this weekend.

The Scarlet Knights enter the contest with a 4-4 overall record and 1-4 record in-conference. The program’s lone Big Ten victory this season came against Illinois last weekend 20-14.

Nevertheless, Rutgers will present a tough task for a Wisconsin team that seems to have found its groove. A win on Saturday for the Badgers would mean another step towards going to Minnesota on November 27 with a chance at winning the Big Ten West.

While Rutgers seems to be improving under Schiano, the head coach is well aware of what type of defense will be on the opposing sideline this weekend.

How high is his praise for Jim Leonhard’s unit? He called it the best defense in America.

“One of the hottest teams in the Big Ten, Wisconsin, is coming to town,” Schiano said to lead off his press conference. “Best defense in America.”

The Rutgers head coach continued to complement Wisconsin’s coaching, physicality, quarterback and run game, noting that this weekend will be “quite a challenge” for his football team.

Antonio Gandy-Golden was one of the most valuable picks in the 2020 draft

The Redskins found a massive steal in the fourth round with Antonio Gandy-Golden, making him one of the most valuable picks in the draft.

With their fourth pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins selected Antonio Gandy-Golden, a wide receiver from Liberty.

Fans may have heard the name in mock drafts and brief scouting reports in the months leading up to the draft, but few people may have actually know exactly who the Redskins were adding to the team. Now that a few days have passed, it’s clear that Washington got one of the bigger steals of the draft, and someone who a few analysts are saying could be one of the most valuable picks in the whole class.

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah came out on Monday with his list of the best value picks from each round, and he had AGG jotted down as his choice from the 4th round, picking him over players like TE Harrison Bryant (Cleveland) and LB Troy Dye (Minnesota).

Jeremiah broke the list down using a simple scale where he took his overall rank of each player, subtracting it from the pick they were eventually drafted at. Gandy-Golden — who was drafted No. 142 overall — had a +63 rating, as he was Jeremiah’s 79th rated player in the draft.

Washington will now be able to add him to a deep receiving corp where they already have Terry McLaurin leading the way, whom they found max value with in 2019 as well.
