Surging welterweight contenders will square off in May.

[autotag]Randy Brown[/autotag] (14-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) meets [autotag]Khaos Williams[/autotag] (13-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) at UFC 274, which takes place at Footprint Center in Phoenix on May 7, promotion officials announced during the UFC 272 broadcast this past Saturday.

Winner of four of his past five, Brown is coming off a first-round submission of Alex Oliveira at UFC 261 and, most recently, a unanimous decision over Jared Gooden at UFC Fight Night 194 this past October.

Williams has been on a roll since joining the UFC roster in February 2020. The 27-year-old Michigan native kicked off his octagon tenure with two straight Performance of the Night knockouts over Alex Morono and Abdul Razak Alhassan. A setback to Michel Pereira in December 2020 snapped his eight-fight winning streak, but Williams was able to rebound with wins over Matthew Semelsberger and another bonus-winning knockout of Miguel Baeza at UFC Fight Night 197.

With the addition, the UFC 274 lineup includes:

  • Charles Oliveira vs. Justin Gaethje – for lightweight title
  • Mauricio Rua vs. Ovince Saint Preux
  • Macy Chiasson vs. Norma Dumont
  • Donald Cerrone vs. Joe Lauzon
  • Ariane Carnelossi vs. Loopy Godinez
  • Blagoy Ivanov vs. Marcos Rogerio de Lima
  • Kleydson Rodrigues vs. CJ Vergara
  • Danny Roberts vs. Francisco Trinaldo
  • Brandon Royval vs. Matt Schnell
  • Michael Johnson vs. Alan Patrick
  • Fernie Garcia vs. Journey Newson
  • Randy Brown vs. Khaos Williams

UFC Fight Night 194: Randy Brown vs. Jared Gooden odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 194 odds and lines between Brandy Brown vs. Jared Gooden, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a welterweight bout on the main card, Randy Brown meets Jared Gooden at UFC Fight Night 194 – also known as UFC Vegas 39 – at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas Saturday. Below, we analyze the UFC Fight Night 194 Brown vs. Gooden odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The card can be viewed on ESPN+ with the prelims at 2 p.m. ET and the main card at 4 p.m. ET.

Brown’s bouts are always exciting, win or lose. Each of his last five fights has finished inside the distance, with two submission wins and a KO/TKO victory during the span, and a pair of second-round KO/TKO losses. His last fight to go the distance was against Mickey Gall at UFC 217 in Nov. 2017.

Gooden bounced back from a pair of unanimous-decision losses to Alan Jouban and Abubakar Nurmagomedov, posting a first-round KO/TKO of Niklas Stolze in July. Six of his last eight professional bouts have finished inside the distance.

UFC Fight Night 194 Brown vs. Gooden: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Brown (13-4-0) | Gooden (18-6-0)

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Brown (-270) will cost you over two and a half times your potential wager, so unless you tie him into a parlay of three or more fighters there really isn’t a lot of value here.

Get more specific instead. I think BROWN BY TKO/KO (+245) is a tremendous value play instead. Yes, he won two of his last three fights via submission, but Gooden has never been tapped in 24 professional career bouts.

Over/Under (O/U)

NO (-190): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE? is a little on the pricey side, but it’s not too terrible if you couple it in a parlay with a Brown victory.

OVER 1.5 ROUNDS (-205) is also a little expensive, but worth a play. While I think Brown knocks out Gooden, it won’t be a quick finish.

Randy Brown upset by Jared Gooden’s weight miss, calls for 50 percent fines moving forward

Randy Brown is not happy about Jared Gooden’s weight miss for their welterweight bout at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 194 in Las Vegas.

[autotag]Randy Brown[/autotag] isn’t happy about what went down on Friday morning.

The UFC veteran successfully made weight for his welterweight contest at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 194 in Las Vegas, but his opponent did not. [autotag]Jared Gooden[/autotag] came in at 174 pounds – three pounds over the limit of non-championship welterweight bouts.

The bout will still go on as planned, and Gooden (18-6 MMA, 1-2 UFC) will forfeit 20 percent of his purse to Brown (13-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) in penalty for the weight miss. But even then Brown is not happy about that.

Dude misses weigh by 4 1/2 lbs lol (laughing out loud),” Brown wrote on Twitter. “Ok I get 20% from purse, but the issue is homie only got 3 fights in the UFC. He’s prob making like 15grand. So I get 20% of that in exchange for a weight advantage smh (shaking my head). Gotta start hitting these dudes for like 50% #unapologeticallyoverweight.”

Brown is looking to build momentum in the UFC, and he’s currently coming off a submission win over fellow veteran Alex Oliveira. Brown is 3-1 in his past four bouts ,with his only defeat coming to top contender Vicente Luque.

Meanwhile, Gooden picked up his first UFC win in his most recent bout, knocking out Niklas Stolze in July. The win put an end to a two-fight losing streak that marked the start of his UFC career.

Ravens sign undrafted free agent kicker, cut long snapper

The Baltimore Ravens signed former East Carolina kicker Jake Verity while cutting long snapper Brian Khoury

The Baltimore Ravens have been known as a kicking factory over the course of their franchise history. They’ve had some greats roll through their doors including Matt Stover and Justin Tucker, but have also paved the way for other kickers to get their start in the NFL. Robbie Gould, Graham Gano, Stephen Hauschka, Will Lutz, and even Kaare Vedvik are examples of some of the kickers that have made a name for themselves in Baltimore, and another could soon be added to the list.

The Ravens announced that they signed undrafted free agent kicker Jake Verity out of East Carolina University. Verity was widely regarded as one of the best kickers in college football throughout his time with the Pirates, hitting on 75.5% of his field goals and 97.7% of his extra points during his college career.

Verity performed well during the 2018 and 2019 seasons, where he connected on 86% of his field goal attempts. However, he didn’t have his best year in 2020, only converting on 66.6% of field goal tries. Verity also was a semi-finalist for the Lou Groza award, which is handed out to the best kicker in college football.

Baltimore usually carries more than one kicker during training camp to help take some of the workload off of Tucker. While any kicker that signs with the Ravens knows that they probably won’t make Baltimore’s final roster, they take it as a chance to learn from one of the best kickers in the NFL, work with a kicking guru in Baltimore’s special teams coach Randy Brown, and show their skills during the preseason in hopes of landing a great opportunity out of training camp.

The Ravens also cut long snapper Brian Khoury, who they signed back in March. Their roster stands at 89 players after the transactions.

UFC 261 ‘Fight Motion’: Kamaru Usman blasts Jorge Masvidal with blistering right hand

Check out these super-slow-motion highlights from UFC 261, including clips of Kamaru Usman’s knockout of Jorge Masvidal.

[autotag]Kamaru Usman[/autotag] put an emphatic end to his rivalry with [autotag]Jorge Masvidal[/autotag].

Usman (19-1 MMA, 14-0 UFC) retained his UFC welterweight title against Masvidal (35-14 MMA, 12-7 UFC) in the main event of this past weekend’s UFC 261 event in Florida, by becoming the first man to stop “Gamebred” in the octagon.

“The Nigerian Nightmare” reiterated that he didn’t get his fix after defeating Masvidal via unanimous decision in their first outing at UFC 251 in July and left absolutely no doubt – if there was any – why he’s the No. 1 welterweight in the sport.

Usman’s jab was on point early, and he was able to take Masvidal down on multiple occasions. But the big surprise came in the beginning of Round 2, when Usman threw a massive lunging right, which hit Masvidal right on the button and knocked him out cold.

You can watch it all unfold in super slow-motion in the UFC 261 “Fight Motion” video highlights above.

Also featured are highlights from [autotag]Rose Namajunas[/autotag]’ championship-winning head-kick knockout of Zhang Weili, [autotag]Valentina Shevchenko[/autotag]’s dominant finish of Jessica Andrade, the damage [autotag]Anthony Smith[/autotag] inflicted on Jimmy Crute’s leg, and finishes from the preliminary card, courtesy of [autotag]Danaa Batgerel[/autotag], [autotag]Brendan Allen[/autotag] and [autotag]Randy Brown[/autotag].

After UFC 261 win, Randy Brown wants everyone to take him seriously as future contender

After quick work of Alex Oliveira at UFC 261, Randy Brown is ready to make a run at 170 pounds.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After quick work of Alex Oliveira at UFC 261, [autotag]Randy Brown[/autotag] is ready to make a run at welterweight.

Brown (13-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) dropped and choked out Oliveira with a one-armed rear-naked choke in Round 1 of the featured prelim on Saturday at Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena.

Oliveira (22-10-1 MMA, 11-8 UFC) found some success with his leg kicks early, but Brown was able to land a blistering right hand that spelled the beginning of the end for the Brazilian.

“His range was interesting,” Brown told reporters at the UFC 261 post-fight news conference. “I studied his fights and noticed he bounces around a lot, and he tries to stay long. With him, because I guess I’m taller, he pressed me and was able to crowd me instantly. He was in my punch range really fast so that threw me off guard a little bit, but then I was able to just re-adjust and hit the big shots that I needed to hit.”

[lawrence-related id=606231]

Having won three of his past four all by way of finish, Brown thinks it’s time he got the credit he deserves.

“I’m here, and I’m coming,” Brown said. “I’ve had some stumbles along the way, but I’m still figuring it out and tonight I showed that.”

He continued, “I want them to know that I’m here, and I want them to take me seriously as a future contender.”

It was big night for the record books at UFC 261. See how champs Kamaru Usman, Rose Namajunas and Valentina Shevchenko made history.

UFC 261 at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla., on Saturday was one for the record books.

All three winners of the championship bouts made a mark on the record books, but none bigger than [autotag]Kamaru Usman[/autotag] (19-1 MMA, 14-0 UFC), who extended his epic run inside the octagon with a second-round knockout of rival [autotag]Jorge Masvidal[/autotag] (35-15 MMA, 12-8 UFC) in the main event.

UFC 261 results: Randy Brown taps Alex Oliveira with one-armed rear-naked choke

UFC welterweight Randy Brown needed just one arm to submit Alex Oliveira with a rear-naked choke at UFC 261.

[autotag]Randy Brown[/autotag] is a serious submission threat.

He needed just one arm to submit [autotag]Alex Oliveira[/autotag] at UFC 261. Brown (13-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) tapped Oliveira (22-10-1 MMA, 11-8 UFC) with a one-armed rear-naked choke at the 2:40 mark of Round 1.

The welterweight bout closed out the UFC 261 preliminary card at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla. It aired on ESPN following early prelims on ESPN+ and ahead of a main card on pay-per-view.

It was a short, but dramatic bout.

[lawrence-related id=605442]

Brown seemed to be in trouble early when Oliveira landed significant leg kicks that were stunning him. But not long after, Brown answered back with a right hand that wobbled Oliveira.

From there, the 30-year-old pounced on the Brazilian, took his back, and submitted Oliveira with a rear-naked choke using just one arm. Brown ended up locking the rear-naked choke with both arms, but Oliveira was tapping well before the choke was locked.

Brown bounced back from a loss to Vicente Luque in August 2020. He’s now 3-1 in his past four bouts. Oliveira fell to 2-5 in his past seven trips to the octagon. He’s on a two-fight skid, including a loss to Shavkat Rakhmonov, also by submission, this past October.

UFC 261 Oliveira vs. Brown: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Oliveira 22-9-1 (2 NC) | Brown 12-4

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

BROWN (-150) steps into the octagon with a huge physical advantage, as he is four inches taller than Oliveira (+125), while holding a two-inch reach advantage.

The striker Brown is looking to bounce back after a second-round KO/TKO loss to Vicente Luque on the Brunson-Shahbazyan card Aug. 1, 2020.

Meanwhile, Oliveira is also looking to rebound after being submitted by Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 254 Oct. 24, 2020. He has won just four of his past eight fights, and “Cowboy” faces another uphill battle in this one.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

Oliveira went the distance in four of his past five fights, while Brown has stoppages in each of his past four bouts.

Since Brown is the favorite and the pick on the 2-way line, take NO (-110): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE?, as he has been racking up finishes.

Brown has eight TKO/KO (6-2) results and five finishes via submission (4-1) in 16 fights. The last time he went the distance was at UFC 217 against Mickey Gall. It isn’t happening here. UNDER 2.5 ROUNDS (+105) is a slightly better value, and worth a look, too.

In addition, look to BROWN BY KO/TKO, DQ OR SUBMISSION (+200) for a small-unit wager on the 5-way method of victory line.

Rescheduled matchup of Randy Brown vs. Alex Oliveira among additions to UFC 261

A welterweight matchup between a pair of fighters with a penchant for the exciting has been added to UFC 261.

A welterweight matchup between a pair of fighters with a penchant for the exciting has been added to UFC 261.

Promotion officials recently announced that [autotag]Randy Brown[/autotag] faces [autotag]Alex Oliveira[/autotag] on the card, which takes place April 24 at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla. The night’s main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+.

Brown and Oliveira were initially scheduled to meet in February, but “Rude Boy” was forced to withdraw from the card. Oliveira was then scheduled to face Ramazan Kuramagomedov on short notice, but the replacement opponent was also ultimately unable to compete, and the bout was scrapped altogether.

UFC 261 marks the return of fans at full capacity for the promotion, which has operated largely behind closed doors since March 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Additional bouts announced for the blockbuster event – which features a trio of title fights in the night’s headlining contests – include lightweights [autotag]Kazula Vargas[/autotag] (11-4 MMA, 0-2 UFC) vs. [autotag]Rong Zhu[/autotag] (17-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC), welterweights [autotag]Dwight Grant[/autotag] (10-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) vs. [autotag]Stefan Sekulic[/autotag] (12-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and strawweights [autotag]Ariane Carnelossi[/autotag] (12-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) vs. [autotag]Na Liang[/autotag] (15-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

Brown (12-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) fought most recently in August, suffering a second-round knockout loss to Vicente Luque. Prior to the setback, Brown had picked up a “Performance of the Night” win over Warlley Alves and a third-round TKO of Bryan Barberena.

Meanwhile, “Cowboy” Oliveira (22-9-1 MMA, 11-7 UFC) looks to rebound from a UFC 254 loss to Shavkat Rakhmonov this past October. Before that defeat, Ooliveira had scored decision wins over Peter Sobotta and Max Griffin.

With the addition to the cards, the UFC 261 lineup now includes:

  • Champ Kamaru Usman vs. Jorge Masvidal – for welterweight title
  • Champ Valentina Shevchenko vs. Jessica Andrade – for women’s flyweight title
  • Champ Zhang Weili vs. Rose Namajunas – for strawweight title
  • Uriah Hall vs. Chris Weidman
  • Jimmy Crute vs. Anthony Smith
  • Randy Brown vs. Alex Oliveira
  • Brendan Allen vs. Karl Roberson
  • Danaa Batgerel vs. Kevin Natividad
  • Qileng Aori vs. Jeffrey Molina
  • Johnny Munoz vs. Jamey Simmons
  • Kazula Vargas vs. Rong Zhu
  • Dwight Grant vs. Stefan Sekulic
  • Ariane Carnelossi vs. Na Liang
