Ex-Broncos DB Rahim Moore makes another big play in XFL

Former Broncos safety Rahim Moore has forced two turnovers in two XFL games.

Last week, former Broncos safety Rahim Moore made a big play in his XFL debut, recording an interception in the DC Defenders’ 31-19 win over the Seattle Dragons. On Sunday, in his second XFL game, Moore made another big play — he forced (and recovered) a fumble in a 27-0 win over the New York Guardians.

Here’s the play, courtesy of DC’s official Twitter page:

Moore finished the day with two tackles, one pass breakup, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Moore now has five tackles, one interception and two pass breakups through two games in the XFL.

Moore (6-1, 200 pounds) was selected by Denver in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft out of UCLA. He spent the first four years of his career with the Broncos, totaling 196 tackles, one sack and nine interceptions.

Denver opted not to re-sign Moore when he became a free agent in 2015 and he went on to spend time with the Texans, Browns and Giants. He played for the Arizona Hotshots in the now-defunct AAF last spring.

XFL day one review: How former Browns fared in the debut

Several former Browns took to the field on Saturday in the XFL’s debut

Day one of the inaugural season of the new and improved XFL is in the books and it appears to be a raging success. While everyone was focused on former NFL quarterbacks, Cardale Jones and P.J. Walker lighting up the stat sheet, a few fans were recognizing names from Cleveland past.

Elijah Campbell

Most fans won’t remember Campbell. He was mostly just a camp body as an undrafted free agent out of Northern Iowa, but he is still young, has solid size and runs in the 4.3s. Campbell was lock-down in his XFL debut for the DC Defenders and recorded one tackle with two pass deflections. He also blocked a punt.

Sammie Coates

This one hurts. The Browns traded for the speedster in 2017 and I like many were excited to see what he would do, but the answer was nothing. He was released before the 2018 season. Coates hurt me once again as I saw his name listed as the number one for the Houston Roughnecks and I immediately slapped him in every daily lineup I had. Coates saw the most targets on the team with nine, but his inconsistent hands-only allowed him to snag two of those for 26 yards.

Blake Jackson

Jackson was a former fan favorite for the Browns during the 2018 training camp as the former division-three quarterback is an exciting athlete that displays a tireless work ethic and he was etched in as a starting receiver for the Houston Roughnecks. Jackson has a realistic skillset to make it back in the NFL, but Saturday was a rough showing; he did not show up on the stat sheet at all and had a pretty upsetting drop in the end zone.

Pepper Johnson

Johnson was not only a former Ohio State Buckeye but was also a linebacker for the Browns from 1993-1995. Although he has coached in the NFL, the XFL’s Los Angeles Wildcats provided Johnson his first defensive coordinator opportunity. The season opener was not kind to Johnson’s defense as the Houston Roughnecks pounded the Wildcats, 37-17.

Rahim Moore

Moore never suited up in an actual meaningful game for Cleveland, but most will remember his signing in 2016 and his surprising release right before the start of the season. At 29 years old, it is unrealistic for Moore to receive another NFL shot, but it is pretty cool to see his rare athleticism on display as he notched the first interception in XFL history.

Gabe Wright

Like Moore, Wright is likely not going to receive another shot in the NFL, but the former Browns defender was able to tally a tackle and a pass deflection for the Houston Roughnecks in the season opener. Wright was in Cleveland during the 2016 and was released before the 2017 season.

Ex-Broncos safety Rahim Moore records INT in first XFL game

Former Broncos safety Rahim Moore grabbed an interception in his first game in the XFL.

Former Broncos safety Rahim Moore was cut by the DC Defenders when XFL teams trimmed their rosters from 71 players down to 52 players in January. After that, Moore was signed by the Tampa Bay Vipers.

It’s unclear what happened from there but somehow Moore ended back on the Defenders’ roster before Week 1. Either the safety was cut by Tampa Bay and ended up back in Washington, D.C. or the Defenders worked out a trade to acquire a player they had already released.

Making his XFL debut (for DC) against the Seattle Dragons on Saturday, Moore totaled three tackles and one interception. He also broke up a pass. Here is Moore’s interception in the second quarter:

DC went on to defeat Seattle 31-19 in the XFL’s first game of 2020.

Moore (6-1, 200 pounds) was selected by the Broncos in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft out of UCLA. He spent the first four years of his career in Denver and then had brief stints with the Texans, Browns and Giants.

Moore played in the now-defunct AAF with the Arizona Hotshots last year. The 29-year-old safety has now recorded 10 interceptions as a pro.

XFL releases commercial for 2020 season on Fox

The XFL is ready to have NFL fans turn their attention toward the new league after the Super Bowl.

The XFL will air on four different TV networks this spring: ABC, ESPN, Fox and FS1. ESPN has already released a promo for the league’s 2020 season, as has Fox Sports.

The league teamed up with Fox to air a commercial that’s promoting “more plays, less downtime and more scoring” in the XFL. Given that Super Bowl LIV will air on Fox, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this advertisement air during the 49ers’ matchup with the Chiefs on Sunday:

The XFL will kick off on Saturday, Feb. 8 when D.C. hosts Seattle at 12 p.m. MT on ABC. That contest will feature four former Broncos players: safety Shamarko Thomas (D.C.), linebacker Steven Johnson (Seattle), offensive lineman Dillon Day (Seattle) and linebacker Stansly Maponga (Seattle).

Several former Denver players were cut by the league before the start of the season, including safety Rahim Moore. Other players — like wide receiver/returner Kelvin McKnight — left the league for opportunities in the NFL. McKnight left the XFL’s Dallas team to sign a reserve/future contract with the Broncos in December.

Rahim Moore among 6 ex-Broncos cut by XFL teams

Rahim Moore was among six former Broncos players who were cut by XFL teams earlier this week.

Rahim Moore was among six former Denver Broncos players who were cut when XFL teams trimmed their rosters from 71 players down to 52 players earlier this week. The safety failed to make Washington, D.C.’s final roster.

In addition to Moore, defensive lineman Sealver Siliga (Dallas), offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandjio (Seattle), tight end Orson Charles (Dallas), wide receiver Steven Dunbar (Dallas) and cornerback Lorenzo Doss (New York) were also cut by their XFL teams.

Former Denver wide receiver Jordan Leslie, linebacker Josh Banderas, wide receiver John Diarse and wide receiver Durron Neal were part of the XFL draft pool but went unselected in October.

Ex-Broncos cornerback Brendan Langley was drafted by the XFL’s Houston-based team but he left the league to sign with the Seahawks’ practice squad during the NFL playoffs. After Seattle’s season ended, Langley’s contract expired and he was not re-signed.

Wide receiver/returner Kelvin McKnight was selected by Dallas in the XFL draft but left the league in December to sign a reserve/future contract with the Broncos. He spent part of last season on Denver’s practice squad.

Punter Shane Tripucka, the grandson of Broncos Ring of Fame quarterback Frank Tripucka, was part of the XFL draft pool but went unselected. He worked out for the Broncos in December but was not among the players Denver signed to reserve/future contracts.

Wide receiver Max McCaffrey, the son of former Broncos wide receiver Ed McCaffrey, was selected by D.C. in the XFL draft but he left the team earlier this month to join his father’s coaching staff at Northern Colorado. The younger McCaffrey will coach UNC’s wide receivers this fall.

The XFL will kick off on Saturday, Feb. 8 when D.C. hosts Seattle at 12 p.m. MT on ABC. That game will be followed by L.A. at Houston on Fox.
