Sebastian Vettel just took a very expensive lap in an Australian GP practice session and fans loved every minute of it

This is a wild way to end a practice session but we’re all here for it.

Normally, F1 practice sessions don’t end this way. But for Sebastian Vettel we had to make an exception.

Vettel took what wound up being a very expensive victory lap at the Australian Grand Prix after a practice session on Friday. Except for it wasn’t in his regular Aston Martin car — it was on a circuit marshal’s scooter.

Vettel’s regular car lost power during the session on Turn 10 of the Albert Park circuit. He needed to get back to the pit lane and paddock area, so he waited until the session was over and rode back on a scooter he borrowed from the marshal.

However, he was supposed to ride back on the road running around the circuit. Not the actual circuit. But, of course, that’s not what he did. And this was the result.

What. A. Moment. This is just so fun. And, man, does he have that wave down perfectly or what? What a moment.

Of course, this ended up costing Vettel €5,000. But hey, man. Totally worth it. He’s got it anyway. Fans absolutely loved this.

Netflix’s ‘Drive to Survive’ thrilling season 4 finally has a release date

IT’S BACK!

Despite the fact that we already know what happened at the end of the actual Formula 1 season last year — and if you don’t want it spoiled, I won’t say what happened! But you can click here if you want to find out — fans of the Netflix series Drive to Survive can’t wait to see Season 4.

But we haven’t heard about a release date for the docuseries all about the drivers, teams and their principals … until now.

On Wednesday, Netflix announced that we only have to wait under a month for the series to drop: It’s back on March 11! That’s nine days before the first race of the 2022 season in Bahrain.

Fans were SO excited:

After an unreal 2021 Formula 1 season and controversial finish, the next ‘Drive to Survive’ can’t come soon enough

WE NEED THIS LIKE NOW!!

Have you caught your breath yet?

I’m still recovering. The final Formula 1 race of the season in Abu Dhabi came down to the final lap, one run around the track to decide if Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton — tied in points coming into Sunday — would win a championship, Hamilton’s eighth or Verstappen’s first.

A controversial decision from stewards to allow the lapped cars between the two go ahead of the safety car and allow for the two rivals to go head-to-head for that last lap had fans furious.

But one thing is for sure after Hamilton and Verstappen have gone at each other for the whole year, which has included some questionable incidents. For fans of Drive to Survive, the Netflix docu-series that has followed each of the last three F1 seasons, the fourth edition in 2022 looking back on this year is going to be must-watch television.

Fans agreed after Sunday’s stunning conclusion:

A controversial Formula 1 decision that led to Max Verstappen beating Lewis Hamilton for title has fans furious

Was this right?

What. Just. Happened?!

With Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton coming into Sunday tied for the drivers’ championship, the final race of the 2021 Formula 1 season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix came down to the final lap. And it was a decision by the race directors that ultimately gave Verstappen a shot at passing the rival he’s battled with all season.

And he did, winning his first world title over Hamilton, who missed out on winning his eighth championship and his fifth straight.

But let’s look at what led up to that heart-stopping, thrilling final lap and Verstappen winning, which didn’t seem like it could happen late in the race.

Bubba Wallace and Denny Hamlin star in a NASCAR-themed Post Malone video for ‘Motley Crew’

Awesome video.

We know Post Malone is a huge sports fan, given that he’s written songs like White Iverson and put in lyrics about the Dallas Cowboys into his Hootie and the Blowfish cover.

This time, he’s dropped Motley Crew, and the video is all racing themed — per NASCAR, it was shot at Auto Club Speedway in California, and there are tons of appearances by Denny Hamlin and Bubba Wallace, the 23XI Racing co-owner and the driver.

Also, with a song named Motley Crew, you might expect someone from Motley Crue to show up … and there’s Tommy Lee in it!

Fernando Alonso didn’t finish a Formula 1 race because of … a sandwich wrap

Seriously. That happened.

Yes, I’m serious. That’s not a typo above: Fernando Alonso, who has won two drivers’ championships, was unable to finish the Bahrain Grand Prix with the Alpine race team because of … a sandwich wrapper.

I have so many questions: who’s eating a sandwich near the cars? Or was it a wrapper that was blown by the wind into the track from miles and miles away, like a butterfly effect that eventually cost Alonso a finish?

Whoever that wrapper belonged to, and all jokes aside, it had a serious effect on Alonso’s car.

From Alpine executive Martin Budkowski, via ESPN:

“After his first stop we had a small issue that forced us to reduce the performance of the car, then after the second stop, a sandwich wrap paper got stuck inside the rear brake duct of Fernando’s car, which led to high temperatures and caused some damage to the brake system, so we retired him for safety reasons.”

Amazing — but you can understand how it damaged the vehicle — how millions and millions of dollars are spent on these cars and a wrap ruined his whole race.

A frustrated Brad Keselowski delivered an epic helmet smash after last-lap Daytona 500 wreck

Frustrated? You bet.

It was a rough ending to the 2021 Daytona 500 for Brad Keselowski, to say the least.

The driver of the No. 2 Ford for Team Penske tried to make a move to pass his teammate Joey Logano to get to the front on the last lap. But Keselowski hit the back of Logano’s car and it caused a huge, fiery wreck. The winner? It was underdog Michael McDowell, who had gone 0-for-357 up until Sunday.

Keselowski was extremely frustrated. Cameras caught him getting out of the wrecked No. 2 and slamming his helmet to the ground before delivering an interview with a memorable quote:

“I don’t feel like I made a mistake, but I can’t drive everybody else’s car.” Wow!

See the wild final lap of the Daytona 500 that included a fiery wreck and a Michael McDowell win

What an ending.

You probably wouldn’t have picked Michael McDowell to win the 2021 Daytona 500 after he didn’t claim victory in any of his 357 NASCAR Cup Series starts.

But there he was in the pack racing for the checkered flag, near the front, when Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano — teammates with Team Penske — were involved in a wreck that brought out the caution flag, as Keselowski tried to pass him.

And it was McDowell who was right there, avoiding the crash and pushing ahead, giving the longtime vet the win.

Here are a few videos from that last lap, starting with what it looked like in real time:

A review of how it all went down:

A look at it from Bubba Wallace’s car:
