Rachael Ostovich accepts one-year USADA sanction after using tainted supplement

Rachael Ostovich will have to serve eight months after receiving credit for time served on a separate “atypical finding.”

The U.S. Anti-Doping agency announced Thursday that UFC women’s flyweight [autotag]Rachael Ostovich[/autotag] has accepted a one-year sanction for violating the promotion’s anti-doping policy after she tested positive for ostarine and GW1516 metabolites.

Ostovich’s positive test stems from an out-of-competition urine sample that was collected Jan. 3. Because she received a four-month credit “due to time served under a provisional suspension in the latter half of 2019 for an atypical finding,” USADA said Ostovich is eligible to return Aug. 3.

“During an investigation into the circumstances of the positive test, Ostovich-Berdon identified a supplement she had tried, which was analyzed at the World Anti-Doping Agency-accredited laboratory in Salt Lake City,” USADA said in a statement. “Although ostarine and GW1516 were not listed on the supplement label, the analysis revealed that the product contained ostarine and GW1516, the substances for which Ostovich-Berdon tested positive. The product label listed another prohibited substance, but Ostovich-Berdon did not realize at the time that it was prohibited. Consistent with other cases with similar circumstances, USADA determined that a small reduction from the default two-year period of ineligibility was justified.

“Ostovich-Berdon received an additional reduction to the otherwise applicable period of ineligibility for her full and complete cooperation. Under the revised UFC ADP announced on November 25, 2019, a full and complete cooperation reduction may be granted in the event that an athlete demonstrates that they did not intend to enhance their performance and provided full, prompt, and truthful responses and information to all reasonable inquiries and requests for information.”

Although it was determined that Ostovich didn’t knowingly try to enhance her performance with her choice of supplement, she was still subject to a sanction because it was not UFC certified.

Ostovich, 29, joined the UFC in December 2017 after competing on Season 26 of “The Ultimate Fighter.” She won her UFC debut but has lost her two other bouts to Montana De La Rosa and Paige VanZant.

Ostovich (4-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC) hasn’t competed since the submission loss to VanZant at UFC on ESPN+ 1 in January 2019. It was Ostovich’s first fight after she was the victim of a domestic violence incident with her husband, Arnold Berdon.

Some of the biggest stars in women’s MMA have created their own version of the “Don’t Rush” Challenge.

Some of the most popular fighters in women’s MMA have created their own version of the #Don’tRush Challenge.

The “Don’t Rush” Challenge is a viral internet trend on TikTok, where each person involved displays their transformation from home to going out attire, in various videos that are later combined into one.

The women of MMA version includes the likes of UFC fighters [autotag]Michelle Waterson[/autotag], [autotag]Paige VanZant[/autotag], [autotag]Tatiana Suarez[/autotag], and [autotag]Rachael Ostovich[/autotag]; Bellator champions [autotag]Ilima-Lei Macfarlane[/autotag] and [autotag]Cris Cyborg[/autotag], along with promotional up-and-comer [autotag]Valerie Loureda[/autotag]; ONE Championship’s [autotag]Angela Lee[/autotag]; and more. In the video, the women show off some MMA skills before transforming into their glammed-up looks.

Bellator fighter [autotag]Bec Rawlings[/autotag], who’s been open about her past as a domestic violence victim, is also featured. Her part lines up with the lyrics “I hate domestic abusers/In fact they all make me sick” from the song used in the video.

Coincidence or well played?

Rachael Ostovich out, Shana Dobson now meets Priscila Cachoeira at UFC on ESPN+ 26 in Auckland

[autotag]Rachael Ostovich[/autotag] is off the card for the UFC’s return to New Zealand next month, and a Brazilian will take her place against [autotag]Shana Dobson[/autotag].

Ostovich (4-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC) is out of her women’s flyweight fight at UFC on ESPN+ 26 against Dobson (3-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC), a person with knowledge of the matchup told MMA Junkie on Friday. Stepping in for Ostovich is [autotag]Priscila Cachoeira[/autotag] (8-3 MMA, 0-3). The person spoke on condition of anonymity since the UFC has not yet announced Ostovich’s withdrawal or Cachoeira as the new opponent. The circumstance behind Ostovich’s withdrawal is not known.

UFC on ESPN+ 26 takes place Feb. 22 (Sunday, Feb. 23 locally) at Spark Arena in Auckland, New Zealand. The card streams on ESPN+.

Cachoeira may be in a must-win situation. After starting her pro career 8-0, she signed with the UFC in 2018 and was submitted by current champion Valentina Shevchenko in the second round after being outstruck by her at a massive 230-3 clip. She returned 11 months later, but in 2019 lost back-to-back decisions to Molly McCann and Luana Carolina, giving her a three-fight skid.

Dobson has dropped back-to-back unanimous decisions to Lauren Mueller and Sabina Mazo. The first was her lone 2018 fight. The latter was her only bout in 2019 and her return after a 16-month layoff in part due to injury. Dobson was a cast member on Season 26 of “The Ultimate Fighter” and won her official UFC debut after the show with a TKO of Ariel Beck.

Ostovich, from Hawaii, was set to return to work for the first time since a January 2019 submission loss to Paige VanZant. That setback gave her back-to-back losses for the first time in her career. In July 2018, she was submitted by Montana De La Rosa after submitting Karine Gevorgyan in her promotional debut in December 2017 after “TUF 26.”

With the change, the UFC Auckland lineup now includes:
