Rutgers football: Qyaeir Price signed with Delaware out of the transfer portal

On December 30, former Scarlet Knight Qyaeir Price entered the NCAA transfer portal and signed with the University of Delaware on Thursday.

Qyaeir Price committed to the University of Delaware on Thursday. The former Rutgers football had entered the transfer portal in December.

A three-star recruit out of high school, Price came to Rutgers as a defensive lineman but switched to tight end this past offseason. Price played his high school ball at DePaul Catholic (Wayne, New Jersey) and originally committed to Syracuse before flipping Rutgers football.

He appeared in four games as a true freshman in 2022 but didn’t see any action this past season for the Scarlet Knights. Price leaves the program with three years of eligibility as he joins the Fighting Blue Hens.

While in high school, Price helped the DePaul Catholic Spartans to a 10-3 record and an NJSIAA Non-Public B title game appearance in 2021. He finished his senior season with 106 tackles, 35.5 tackles-for-loss, 14.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception. Also, Price captured NJ.com New Jersey Defensive Player of the Year, Super Football Conference Player of the Year, and United White Division Player of the Year during his senior season.

DePaul standout quarterback Derek Zammit is offered by Rutgers football

Rutgers football offers DePaul star quarterback Derek Zammit.

An offer went out from Rutgers football over the weekend to Derek Zammit, who projects to be one of the top quarterbacks in the region in the class of 2026.

Last season as a sophomore for DePaul, Zammit was 80-of-122 for 1,194 passing yards with 11 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also had 19 rushes for 66 yards with two touchdowns.

The 6-foot, 170-pound quarterback now holds three Power Five offers with Rutgers joining Duke and Wake Forest in his recruitment.

He’s a good athlete, who moves well in the pocket. He throws a nice deep ball and has some zip to his passes.

Posting on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Zammit announced the offer from Rutgers football on Friday night:

Rutgers hosted a number of top underclassmen this weekend, sending out several offers during the unofficial visits.

DePaul is a strong program that traditionally puts out Power Five caliber recruits. Last season, playing a strong schedule, they finished the season 7-5.

In the 2022 recruiting class, Rutgers landed a commitment from [autotag]Q’yaeir Price[/autotag], a defensive lineman from DePaul. Price was a three-star recruit who was ranked the No. 14 player in New Jersey for that class.

Rutgers football got a flip of sorts, getting the commitment of defensive lineman Q’yaeir Price just days after the three-star recruit re-opened his college search. Price had been a Syracuse verbal who de-committed from the ACC program early this week.

A defensive lineman at DePaul Catholic (Wayne, N.J.), Price announced his pledge to Rutgers on Saturday morning. Price was on a visit to Rutgers ahead of Saturday afternoon’s game against Wisconsin.

This is a powerful and explosive athlete as his recently released midseason highlights show.

The decision didn’t come as a great surprise and was even anticipated. But it is still big news for the Scarlet Knights, who are adding a solid defensive lineman who has come along and developed nicely this season.

In addition to Rutgers and Syracuse, Price also held offers from Boston College, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Purdue and Temple among others.

His senior season, Price has shown some good attributes including more speed, better pursuit and the ability to track down runners in the open field.

There is explosiveness and sheer strength in his midseason highlights. Price will likely need a redshirt season to add the needed strength for the Big Ten, in particular if he is going to play in the interior of the line.

This past week, Price told ‘Rutgers Wire’ that he was also hearing from Penn State, Oregon and Coastal Carolina since leaving Syracuse’s 2022 recruiting class. Here are Price’s midseason highlights for 7-3 DePaul:
