EDGE transfer added to Florida football roster ahead of fall camp

Florida’s roster is nearly complete with the late addition of JUCO edge defender transfer Quincy Ivory.

Former East Los Angeles College edge rusher [autotag]Quincy Ivory[/autotag] was added to the Florida Gators’ 2023 fall roster on Wednesday.

Ivory committed during an official visit to the Swamp in June, but he had to wait to finish up his associate degree over the summer to join the team. With everything working out as planned, Ivory is now in Gainesville and ready to get to work with the team.

With three years of eligibility remaining, Ivory can afford to be a late addition in the 2023 cycle. It will take him some time to catch up to the rest of the team, most of whom have been together for over six months. There are a few summer enrollees in the same position, but they are freshmen.

Princely Umanmielen is expected to be the team’s top edge defender with Justus Boone entering fall camp as the likely option to play defensive end. Scooby Williams might be the only other edge with experience on the roster, so there’s room for Ivory to get some snaps in, especially against weaker opponents this season.

In 2022, he made 22 tackles, including 12.5 for a loss and 8.5 sacks. He also forced two fumbles and recovered three. Ivory has some experience playing quarterback at the college level, which he says has helped him anticipate plays as a defender.

Florida football’s transfer portal acquisition to visit early this week

This transfer portal edge rusher will be in town Monday or Tuesday.

Florida football will get a visit from its most recent addition through the transfer portal in edge rusher [autotag]Quincy Ivory[/autotag], who announced on his personal Twitter account on Sunday that he plans on visiting campus early this week.

“Officially a Gator, will be on campus Monday or Tuesday it’s about time,” he said.

Ivory, a 6-foot-5-inch, 255-pound defender originally out of Alief, Texas, is scheduled to finish his Associate of Arts degree this summer at East Los Angeles College in California, which puts him in the 2023 cycle and will allow him to participate in the upcoming campaign.

“I will have my AA in mid-July,” Ivory told Swamp247 prior. “So I should have my degree this summer, so my situation is a little weird.”

The latest addition to Orange and Blue originally signed with Mississippi Valley State back in 2020 before deciding to take the JUCO route to the big time. Formerly a quarterback at the high school level, it became apparent that his path to a top collegiate program was on defense, where he excelled at the edge position. He gave his verbal commitment to the Orange and Blue in early June.

“It’s the SEC. When I focused only on defense, I said I wanted to go power five. This is the conference I was shooting for, so it can’t get any higher than this.”

Gators get commitment from coveted JUCO EDGE

This EDGE arrived without an offer and left wearing the Orange and Blue this weekend.

An official visit this weekend turned into a commitment for the 2023 recruiting class. Edge defender [autotag]Quincy Ivory[/autotag] out of East Los Angeles College (California) JUCO arrived in Gainesville without even a scholarship offer but left a member of the Florida Gators.

With roster spots still empty and a little over two-and-a-half months remaining before the opening kickoff, Florida’s coaches have been honing in on Ivory of late thanks in large part to off-field staffer Joe Hamilton who has connections to the Lone Star State. Outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson and defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong were also in the mix.

“He [Hamitlon] said they were looking for a guy, and ever since then I have been in contact with the coaches. It started with him, but then I got in touch with Jacob LaFrance in the recruiting office. We started getting things together, like my classes and stuff. Then Coach [Mike] Peterson got in touch with me and wanted to talk about the whole situation. Then Coach [Billy] Napier has given him his number and we’ve texted a few times, but I also talk to Coach [Austin] Armstrong a lot too. Really it started with Joe Hamilton, and now it’s a lot more.”

The Gators’ 2023 recruiting class now stands at 22 players strong while adding another 12 names to the team through the NCAA transfer portal as well.

Florida hosting JUCO EDGE transfer on official visit

Florida is hosting a ton of high school recruits on official visits over the summer, but don’t forget about the junior college transfers stopping by the Swamp as well.

Billy Napier’s recruiting staff is preparing to host a ton of high school recruits on official visits over the month of June, but there are also a few junior college transfers looking to stop by the Swamp for an official visit.

East Los Angeles College transfer [autotag]Quincy Ivory[/autotag] will be in Gainesville over the weekend of June 9, according to Swamp247. He played in 10 games for ELAC in 2022, totaling 8.5 sacks and 14 tackles before deciding to enter the transfer portal.

This will not be the first transfer of Ivory’s career, either. He signed with Missouri Valley State in 2020 as a quarterback but ended up transferring to ELAC after the 2021 season. Ivory still played some quarterback last year, but he is clearly more talented as an edge rusher.

Florida has yet to offer Ivory a scholarship, but they are one of the few Power Five teams showing public interest in him at this point. Ivory has been in the transfer portal since January.

Adding Ivory would give Florida some depth on the defensive line following the departures of players such as Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr. It should be easier to gauge where this recruitment stands after the official visit, which is a positive sign in itself.
