Seahawks free safety Quandre Diggs suffered a major leg injury in the team’s final quarter of their final game of the 2021 season. Not far from the cursed endzone in Glendale, Diggs went down with what was later revealed to be a broken fibula as well as a dislocated ankle.

Last night, Diggs shared a video on Twitter of him training at this time one year ago, reflecting on his recovery. Diggs revealed that he couldn’t even cut until a month and a half before the 2022 season started.

Diggs started the season slow, but he steadily got better and by the stretch run he was playing every bit as well as in 2021. At the end of the season he’d only allowed a 60.7 passer rating in coverage. For his efforts, Diggs was named to his third consecutive NFC Pro Bowl team.

Since joining the Seahawks halfway through the 2019 campaign, Diggs has posted a total of 17 interceptions and 27 pass breakups.

Seahawks FS Quandre Diggs returns to VMAC 4 months after broken fibula

Diggs returned to practice at the VMAC yesterday for the first time in four months since the injury.

The 2021 NFL season was a tough one for the Seattle Seahawks and their fans, who suffered through the team’s first losing campaign in 10 years. It ended on a particularly bittersweet note. While they scored a convincing moral victory against the NFC West rival Arizona Cardinals to end the year, free safety Quandre Diggs suffered a major leg injury in the fourth quarter. Diggs dislocated his ankle and broke his fibula, which required surgery.

Great news on this front: yesterday Diggs returned to practice at the VMAC in Renton for the first time in almost exactly four months since the injury.

Since coming over in a lopsided trade with the Detroit Lions in October of 2019, Diggs has developed into one of the league’s elite deep safeties. He has totaled 13 interceptions in 38 games and made the Pro Bowl two years running. Diggs’ fine work earned him a three-year contract extension worth $40 million.

Seahawks FS Quandre Diggs posts positive update on his leg injury

Thanks to his exceptional performance the last 2+ years Diggs should be first in line among the team’s pending free agents for a contract extension.

The worst moment of the cursed 2021 season for the Seahawks happened in the fourth quarter of their Week 18 win over the Cardinals. The victory was thrilling and cathartic but bittersweet, as free safety Quandre Diggs suffered a devastating leg injury – breaking his fibula and dislocating his ankle.

Diggs had been playing a dangerous, often thankless position at a high level for Seattle’s defense all year, earning himself a Pro Bowl nomination and a handful of All-Pro votes. Thanks to his exceptional performance the last 2+ years Diggs should be first in line among the team’s pending free agents for a contract extension.

Good news: it’s been roughly one month since his surgery and Diggs appears to be making progress.

Yesterday, Diggs tweeted that he got his cast off.

In just 38 games since the trade from Detroit, he has already totaled 13 interceptions, by far the most for the franchise during that time.

Truth is, the Seahawks should have never let him go this long without giving him a new deal in the first place. Diggs says he wants to stay but has to be fairly compensated.

Seahawks FS Quandre Diggs unhappy about being excluded from Pro Bowl

It seems unfair to exclude him from the festivities entirely, though.

Seahawks free safety Quandre Diggs played his position about as well as anyone in the NFL during the 2021 season. His performance earned him a well-deserved Pro Bowl nomination and should also get him a handsome new contract this offseason.

However, Diggs suffered a major leg injury during Seattle’s last game of the season – breaking his fibula and suffering a dislocated ankle in Arizona. With a recovery time of 4-5 months, Diggs obviously won’t be playing in the Pro Bowl this year. It seems unfair to exclude him from the festivities entirely, though. Diggs went on a Twitter rant yesterday about it. Here’s what No. 6 had to say about the situation.

Gut-wrenching.
