Notre Dame, Purdue Fort Wayne to start season for charity

Notre Dame men’s basketball will play a charity exhibition before the season starts.

Notre Dame men’s basketball will kick off its season with a visit to Purdue Fort Wayne for a charity game on October 30.

It’s an exhibition game, to be clear, but it is the first tilt on the Fighting Irish schedule.

The Irish will visit the Mastodons at 7 pm EST on October 30, with proceeds from the game at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne going to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana and Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne.

Notre Dame head coach Micah Shrewsberry will be starting his second season with the Irish, looking to improve on the team’s 13-20 overall and 7-13 ACC record from 2023-2024. He’ll also be looking to return the Fighting Irish to the NCAA Tournament.

The Notre Dame men’s basketball season starts in earnest at home on November 6 against the Stonehill Skyhawks. The starting time for that game has not yet been determined.

Purdue Fort Wayne guard hilariously (illegally?) blocked a shot with a shoe — yes, a SHOE

Hang it in the Louvre!

Rasheed Bello and his shoe deserve a parade.

College basketball brings so much chaos to hoops fans everywhere, and it’s glorious. The upsets, the court-stormings and the trash talk are what makes the sport so great. But what about a shoe unraveling a whole team? That really happened.

On Wednesday, during a matchup between the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons and the University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles (yeah, those are real mascot names, too), guard Rasheed Bello of Purdue Fort Wayne blocked a shot with his shoe — HIS SHOE.

It is totally within the rules (as long as you don’t throw it), and Bello’s quick thinking paid off. The block was so vicious that the Screaming Eagles only scored a single field goal after that.

Unreal.

Ohio State basketball stays undefeated by beating Purdue Fort Wayne

The Ohio State basketball team crushed the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons to improve to 5-0 Friday night.

The Ohio State basketball team put it on the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons Friday night 85-46 to run its record to 5-0.

The scoring started early and continued right throughout with a lot of Buckeyes getting in on the act as head coach Chris Holtmann emptied the bench in the second half.

Purdue Fort Wayne began the game with some decent shooting of its own to keep things tight in the first few minutes, but the floodgates opened up soon enough. Ohio State went into the break up 42-25 and never looked back.

Junior forward Kaleb Wesson led the Buckeyes with 15 points and 7 rebounds on 4-9 shooting. Freshman point guard D.J. Carton chipped in 13 points and had a couple of highlight reel plays once again. C.J. walker was the only other Buckeye in double figures with 11 points, but 11 of 13 Ohio State players got in the scoring column.

Senior guard Marcus Deberry led the Mastodons with 16 points.

The Buckeyes will next be in action Monday against the Kent State.
