Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed lead LIV Golf’s list of top prize money earners in its debut regular season

Of the 68 players to tee it up, 48 players made more than $1 million, with 15 making more than $4 million.

DORAL, Fla. — With $4 million going to the winner and $120,000 going to last place at each event, players were bound to make a ridiculous amount of money in LIV Golf’s first year. And they did.

Of the 68 players to tee it up on the upstart circuit led by Greg Norman and backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, a whopping 48 players made more than $1 million, with 15 making more than $4 million, including Pat Perez, who earned $961,000 for his individual performances and $3,062,500 for team bonuses. Dustin Johnson, LIV’s inaugural regular-season champion and the captain of Perez and the 4Aces, blew away the field thanks to $10,575,267 in individual earnings for a $13,637,767 total.

This week, LIV Golf will host its team championship event at Trump National Doral in Miami, where teams will make at minimum $1 million ($250,000 per player). If a team advances to the semifinals, they’ll earn $3 million ($750,000 per player), with $4 million going to fourth place ($1 million per player), $6 million to third ($1.5 million per player), $8 million to the runner up ($2 million per player) and $16 million to the winners ($4 million per player).

Here’s how much money each player earned on the course in LIV Golf’s first regular season.

Making his first start of the new PGA Tour season, the 33-year-old defended his title at the 2022 CJ Cup – held this year at Congaree Golf Club in South Carolina – on Sunday and left the course with more than just a trophy. The victory will move McIlroy back to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking on Monday, a position he last held in 2020.

The win is the 23rd of McIlroy’s career on Tour and follows his victorious efforts at the 2022 Tour Championship that also earned him a third FedEx Cup title. According to the Tour, McIlroy joins Tiger Woods as the only reigning FedEx Cup champions to win their following season debut.

Big money on the line at 2022 Zozo Championship, which has produced big-name winners each year

The Zozo is a 78-man, limited field, no-cut tournament.

The PGA Tour heads to Japan for the Zozo Championship this week.

In its first three years, the Zozo has produced big-name tournament champs.

Hideki Matsuyama is back to defend his title. He banked $1.791 million after winning on home soil a year ago. In 2020, Patrick Cantlay earned $1.44 million after the event was moved to Southern California and played at Sherwood Country Club due to COVID restrictions in Japan. In 2019, in the inaugural playing of the first Tour event in Japan, Tiger Woods won his 82nd title while also pocketing $1.755 million. October 27 will mark three years since his last Tour title.

The 2022 version of the event, played again at the Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club in Chiba, will feature its largest first-place prize yet. It’s also one of the largest checks on the PGA Tour. Of course, there are plenty of qualifiers in the pecking order and the Zozo is a 78-man, limited field event with no cut, but it’s still a bigger payday than most events on the schedule.

How much money is up for grabs at 2022 Tour Championship at East Lake

It pays to play well on the PGA Tour.

Someone is leaving Atlanta $18 million richer than when he arrived come Sunday night.

The final round of the Tour Championship is underway, and with that comes numerous changes to the payout structure of the event. A year ago, there was $60 million up for grabs, with $15 million going to the winner. This year, however, those numbers are $75 million and $18 million, respectively.

The increased bonus pool means that the top-10 finishers will bank seven-figure paydays and the last-place finisher (there are 29 golfers in the field this week) will make $500,000.

There is no longer a purse—like there is at all the other tournaments—for the Tour Championship. The FedEx Cup Playoffs bonus money is the only money that players earn at East Lake. It’s not considered official earnings on the money list.

Tour ChampionshipPGA Tour Live on ESPN+

Scottie Scheffler started the final round in the driver’s seat for the $18 million prize, leading by six shots heading into the final round. Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele sit tied for second and will look to mark another big come-from-behind victory.

The bonus money will also be split into cash and deferred payments.

Here’s a breakdown of the money up for grabs at East Lake.
