Bucs to bring in new punter for tryout

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have a new punter trying out for the team

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have a veteran punter trying out for the team at next week’s rookie minicamp.

Pressley Harvin III will be in attendance as he tries to earn a roster spot, per Fox Sports’ Greg Auman.

Harvin spent the last three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, so he brings some experience to the table. That said, the Bucs recently spent a fourth-round draft pick on current punter Jake Camarda, who just broke the franchise record for punt average last season.

It seems unlikely that Harvin would be anything other than training camp and preseason depth should he end up getting signed by the Bucs.

Steelers make 2 more roster moves in addition to QB Mitch Trubisky

The Steelers released Mitch Trubisky, Chuks Okorafor and Pressley Harvin III on Monday.

The NFL offseason officially started today and the Pittsburgh Steelers wasted no time making moves to clear salary cap space.

The team announced the release of quarterback Mitch Trubisky, offensive lineman Chukwuma Okorafor and punter Pressley Harvin III.

The writing has been on the wall for all three weeks now; it was only a matter of the Steelers doing the deed.

Trubisky appeared in 12 games since signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a free agent in 2022. Trubisky had a 2-5 record throwing in seven starts for 1,884 yards, eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Okorafor, selected by the Steelers in the third round of the 2018 NFL draft, played in 77 games with 59 starts. The full-time role he took over in 2020 was rescinded midway through the 2023 season in what was deemed a behavioral issue, and Okorafor was replaced by first-round rookie Broderick Jones.

Per Jason Fitzgerald at Over the Cap, the move saves the Steelers $8.75 million on the salary cap, leaving an estimated $3.1 of dead money on the books.

Harvin, a seventh-round 2021 NFL draft selection, punted 217 times for 9,473 yards (43.7-yard average).

The trio of moves saves Pittsburgh roughly $12.65M in cap space.

Steelers sign Brad Wing to practice squad

The Steelers welcomed back P Brad Wing.

We’ve seen first-hand how poor punting can affect a game and the Pittsburgh Steelers appear to be taking no chances with Pressley Harvin III.

The team announced this morning that they’ve signed veteran punter Brad Wing to their practice squad. It signals a lack of faith in Harvin and for good reason. He’s one of the worst punters in the league, averaging just 43.4 yards per attempt.

Wing was with Pittsburgh earlier this season when Harvin was dealing with a hamstring injury. Unfortunately, he wasn’t an adequate substitute. He had 11 punts in Weeks 4 and 5, averaging 45 yards per attempt. He has two touchbacks, three punts inside the 20-yard line and a long of 52 yards.

Wing played for Pittsburgh in 2014, punting 61 times for 2,668 yards. Per Steelers.com, he landed 20 attempts inside the opponents’ 20-yard line.

To make room for Wing, the Steelers released quarterback Trace McSorley on Tuesday.

Pressley Harvin III delivers the punt of the year for the Steelers

It has been ugly early between the Steelers and the Ravens, but punter Pressley Harvin III might have delivered the punt of the year.

Here at Touchdown Wire, we try and emphasis all three phases of the game. Of course, there is a heavy dose on offensive execution, as well as defensive effort. But when something notable happens on special teams, we take notice.

Already today we have a fake punt for a touchdown provided by the Seattle Seahawks, broken down here by our own Doug Farrar.

Now, now it is time to talk about the punt of the year.

Punters do not get a ton of love around these parts, or in football media generally. Pat McAfee has his “for the brand,” well, brand. And you can be sure that he was paying attention when Pittsburgh Steelers punter Pressley Harvin III delivered this absolute missile early against the Baltimore Ravens:

Not only was this a rocket off his right foot, but Harvin gets an incredible bounce here, as the football lands inside the one-yard line and makes a 90-degree turn to the right, trickling out of bounds at the half-foot line and pinning the Ravens deep.

It has been an ugly contest in the early going between Pittsburgh and Baltimore, and the fact that a punt is getting the bulk of attention is probably an indication of how this game is unfolding. Still, we tip our hats to excellence when it happens, and this was surely an excellent punt from Harvin.

NFL fans went wild after Steelers punter Pressley Harvin III made the most immaculate punt

You won’t find a more perfect punt than this.

If there’s one thing NFL fans can agree on, it’s that we can all appreciate a good punt when we see it. And Pressley Harvin III just had the punt of a lifetime.

During Thursday’s Hall of Fame game — the official start of the NFL preseason — Pittsburgh Steelers punter Harvin boomed this perfect punt down the field to pin the Dallas Cowboys at the one-yard line near the end of the first half. The ball had the right amount of backspin on it to hit the ground at the one-yard line and just… bounce perfectly in place until Harvin’s teammates were able to down the ball.

It’s quite the incredible punt from Harvin, the Steelers’ 254th pick in April’s draft, one which may have won him a starting spot on Pittsburgh’s roster.

Yes, it may be preseason, but that’s a hell of a punt all the same! NFL fans were beside themselves with excitement at what was, without a doubt, the best play of the game thus far.

Watch Steelers punter Pressley Harvin III pull off the perfect punt

A perfect punt by Pressley Harvin that deserves your eyes.

Steelers punter Pressley Harvin III had one hell of a debut in the Hall of Fame. The Steelers drafted him with the 254th pick in April’s NFL Draft to compete to be the team’s punter and he might have won the job with one kick.

Right before the halftime during the Hall of Fame game, Harvin boomed a punt that pinned the Cowboys at the one yard line. Harvin put the perfect spin on the ball, allowing it to essentially bounce in place before his teammates were able to down the ball.

Not even to disparage the other plays in the Hall of Fame game, but it was legitimately one of the best plays of the game.

Harvin is somewhat of a legend, showing off some serious throwing chops while he was punting at Georgia Tech.

Tale of the Tape: Team Stats – Notre Dame vs. Georgia Tech

Entering Saturday’s game at Georgia Tech, Notre Dame’s defense looks as strong as ever.

Entering Saturday’s game at Georgia Tech, Notre Dame’s defense looks as strong as ever. The unit has been superb at preventing points, yardage, third-down conversions and high passing efficiencies from opposing quarterbacks. Offensively, their strength remains their rushing attack, success on third down and holding onto the ball for extended periods of time. Add in the fact that the Irish have taken few penalties, and you have a team that is right to put itself in the College Football Playoff conversation.

By contrast, the Yellow Jackets don’t have many areas of obvious strength. The one that’s absolutely certain is the leg of punter Pressley Harvin III, who is one of the best college players at his position. The Yellow Jackets also are decent at running the ball and picking up first downs. However, it’s going to take a lot more than that for them to upset the Irish at home.
