Kickoff is almost here between the New Orleans Saints and Detroit Lions, so of course the black and gold gathered for a passionate speech from team leadership.

That meant a fired-up message from linebacker Demario Davis and quarterback Drew Brees, who have teamed up for these huddles the last two years. Brees traditionally led the speech himself until he missed a few games with a thumb injury in 2019, prompting Davis to step in. And the veteran linebacker hasn’t left the spotlight since.

Hopefully their message resonated with teammates. Even with all the injuries hitting New Orleans on both sides of the ball, they’re still a better team than the Lions — on paper. Now it’s time to put proof to that.

The New Orleans Saints are minutes away from kicking off against the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium, and they capped off pregame warmups with the typical fired-up huddle featuring speeches from team leaders like linebacker Demario Davis and quarterback Drew Brees. But Sunday’s speech wasn’t something they’d heard before.

“All I am asking from you,” Davis began, raising his voice and driving the point home, “All I am asking from you is everything you got!”

It’s easy to see how the Saints are able to play together as a team, with great examples like Davis and Brees at the helm. Drew Brees, Demario Davis hype up Saints in pregame: ‘Today we are thankful’

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees and LB Demario Davis hyped up their teammates with a passionate pregame speech against the Atlanta Falcons.

The New Orleans Saints have always had a custom of passionate pregame speeches from quarterback Drew Brees, but the 2019 season introduced a new twist during Brees’ five-game absence with a thumb injury. Linebacker and defensive captain Demario Davis stepped into Brees’ role while the quarterback was away, but they’ve teamed up now that the Saints are back together. The team pregame huddle is even more passionate than it’s ever been, with Brees reviving his iconic “win again” chant from the 2009 Super Bowl season while Davis added his “prowl, kill, eat” mantra.

On Thursday before their game with the Atlanta Falcons, Brees and Davis made things topical by acknowledging the Thanksgiving holiday, and made note of what they’re thankful for.

“Today we are thankful,” Davis shouted to his huddled teammates. Drew Brees picked up where Davis left off, saying, “We came here to get a win. We ain’t leaving until we get it.”

It’s easy to see why the Saints believe they  can rally around this kind of leadership. See the whole speech for yourself:
