Notre Dame-Ohio State: Behind Enemy Lines with Buckeyes Wire

Everything you need to know about Ohio State ahead of Saturday’s showdown.

You really don’t need to say anything besides “Notre Dame-Ohio State” to gain the attention of a nation.  Saturday will be just the fourth regular season meeting between the two since World War II and to inform the unaware of just how big these brands are – it’ll be the fourth time ESPN’s College Gameday will be on hand to showcase the two.

Here at Fighting Irish Wire we know a good amount about this Notre Dame team but a massive test awaits Saturday.  Ohio State has been the standard of Midwest football the last few decades and one of the absolute most successful programs in the nation this century.

How do the Irish matchup with the Buckeyes and is this Notre Dame’s best shot at a true marquee win in recent memory?

We caught up with Buckeyes Wire editor Phil Harrison who gave us the 4-1-1 on everything Ohio State.  Check out his answers to all our questions below.

Notre Dame-Ohio State: Initial Thoughts

It’s Ohio State week. What else do we really need to say?

So Week 3 of the college football season has come and gone and the showdown is on for a couple of powerhouses from the Midwest. In what should be one of the biggest weekends on the 2023 college football calendar, the marquee event will be Notre Dame playing host to Ohio State on Saturday night.

Notre Dame will enter 4-0, fresh off a 41-17 win against Central Michigan that checked the box for a victory despite not being overly impressive.

Ohio State is 3-0 with its latest win being their most impressive. The Buckeyes routed Western Kentucky, 63-10, on Saturday. More on that to come below.

So as the first of perhaps a couple “biggest game of the year” weekends falls upon Notre Dame, here are some initial thoughts headed into the showdown.

Notre Dame-USC kickoff time announced

Mark your calendars!

When Notre Dame travels to USC on Thanksgiving weekend all of the lights will be on in the City of Angels.  Game time for the annual rivalry game was announced Monday and the longtime enemies are set to square off in prime time.  Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET and will air nationally on ABC.

Barring an absolutely insane final two weeks of the college football regular season, USC is the only Pac-12 that remains a possibility for the College Football Playoff.  The Trojans are 9-1 with their only loss coming by one point at Utah in October.

The November 26 contest will be Notre Dame’s first trip to The Coliseum since 2018 as the annual rivalry game was called off in 2020 due to COVID.  What better way to start the [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag]-[autotag]Lincoln Riley[/autotag] rivalry than by having the Irish knock the Trojans out of CFP contention?
