The Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Clippers meet Wednesday to open their 2023-24 NBA seasons. Tip-off from Crypto.com Arena is set for 10:30 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Trail Blazers vs. Clippers odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Clippers won 3-0 last season

Portland had one of the busiest offseasons of any team, trading away superstar G Damian Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks and acquiring C Deandre Ayton, C Robert Williams III, and G Malcolm Brogdon. The Trail Blazers also drafted G Scoot Henderson with the 3rd pick in the 2023 draft.

Los Angeles had a relatively uneventful offseason that included the re-signing of G Russell Westbrook to a 2-year deal and  F/C Mason Plumlee to a 1-year deal, and acquiring F Kenyon Martin Jr. from the Houston Rockets.

Trail Blazers at Clippers picks and predictions

Prediction

Clippers 118, Trail Blazers 105

Moneyline

PASS.

Los Angeles will pick up the win here, but a -400 favorite is never worth the risk of betting on. Bet on the spread and/or O/U instead.

Against the spread

BET CLIPPERS -9 (-112).

I expect it to take some time for this young Trail Blazers team to find its footing as many of its players don’t have experience playing together. Los Angeles is also the much better team and I don’t see the Blazers having much success guarding the talented duo of F Kawhi Leonard and G/F Paul George.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 227.5 (-110).

This will likely be a rough and slightly sloppy game for Portland as this is a team that will be looking to build chemistry. The Clippers should have no real trouble with the Blazers, but I do expect the Blazers to have trouble finding ways to score on this Clippers defense. I have trouble believing this will be a game that can hit Over 227.5 total points as neither team really scores in bunches.

Portland Trail Blazers at Los Angeles Clippers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Portland Trail BLazers at Los Angeles Clippers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Portland Trail Blazers (5-5) begin a four-game road trip Tuesday when they face the Los Angeles Clippers (5-4). Tip-off from Staples Center is at 10 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Trail Blazers vs. Clippers odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Blazers have won their last two games, defeating the Indiana Pacers and Los Angeles Lakers at home. All five of their wins to start the year were at home, while they are 0-4 on the road.

The Clippers are playing the second game of a six-game homestand and seem to have found themselves. L.A. is riding a four-game win streak after dropping four of its first five games of the season. The Clippers are allowing 99.8 points per game across the four-game win streak.

Trail Blazers at Clippers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Trail Blazers 108, Clippers 105

Money line

The Blazers are winless on the road but won their last two games at home while allowing just 98 points per game.

The Clippers’ four-game win streak looks good but is against three teams who all have losing records that combine for an 11-19 record.

The two teams have already faced one another twice this season, each winning on their home court. Blazers PG Damian Lillard shot only 4-for-15 overall and 0-for-8 from three in the first game but had 25 points in the second game.

Take the TRAIL BLAZERS (+122).

Against the spread

The Trail Blazers are 4-6 ATS so far this season and have not covered the spread in their four road games.

The Clippers are 5-4 ATS and 2-3 ATS at home. They are 4-3 ATS when favored to win.

I like the Blazers to win the game outright but if you don’t have the same confidence level and want a little insurance, take the TRAIL BLAZERS +2.5 (-105).

Over/Under

The Blazers’ first two games of the season went Over the projected total, but it only hit once in their next eight games, and only one of their last eight games had a total of more than tonight’s projected total.

The two games between the two teams have averaged a total of 202.5.

The Clippers are 3-6 O/U on the season.

Take UNDER 219.5 (-108).

Portland Trail Blazers at Los Angeles Clippers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Monday’s Portland Trail Blazers at Los Angeles Clippers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Clippers (0-2) host the Portland Trail Blazers (1-1) Monday at Staples Center for a 10:30 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we look at the Trail Blazers vs. Clippers odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Portland evened their regular-season record after clubbing the Phoenix Suns 134-105 Saturday. Blazers SG C.J. McCollum scored a game-high 28 points on 52.6% field goal shooting and Portland dominated Phoenix in all “four factors” .

L.A. lost to the Memphis Grizzlies 120-114 as 4-point home favorites in its last outing. Paul George balled out by scoring 41 points on 60.0% shooting with 10 rebounds and 4 assists but didn’t get enough help from his supporting cast.

The Clippers won all three regular-season meetings against the Trail Blazers last season and covered in two of three victories.

PG lit up Portland last season, averaging over 30.0 points per game (PPG) on 73.1% true shooting (.582/.462/.889), 8.0 rebounds (RPG) and 5.0 assists per game (APG) with a plus-23 net rating in those three meetings.

On the other hand, Damian Lillard struggled vs. L.A., scoring just 15.5 PPG on 41.1% true shooting (.179/.071/.909) in his two appearances against the Clippers last year.

Trail Blazers at Clippers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Trail Blazers 117, Clippers 111

Money line

L.A. doesn’t have the same defensive identity it has in recent seasons with Kawhi sidelined by injury and former PG Patrick Beverley leaving in free agency this offseason.

Both were two of the best perimeter defenders in the association and crucial to the Clippers more or less shutting down Dame Time last season. Not only does L.A. not have said defensive identity but guard Reggie Jackson isn’t an above-average starter and could be in trouble against Lillard.

Slight “LEAN” to the TRAIL BLAZERS (+122) for a tiny wager if at all since Portland plus the points is a much wiser bet and Clippers head coach Ty Lue has the edge over Trail Blazers rookie head coach Chauncey Billups.

Against the spread

BET the TRAIL BLAZERS +2.5 (-105) heavier than or instead of Portland’s money line.

My read on the Clippers is their stock is too high because the market is overemphasizing their awesome playoff performance last year when Kawhi was sidelined with a knee injury.

Lue did an awesome job and maybe continues to do so this season. However, counting on players like Jackson, forward Marcus Morris and guard Luke Kennard could mean the Clippers struggle to have a winning record.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the UNDER 230.5 (-112) for a quarter-unit because it’s the “sharp” side in the total but I wouldn’t put a heavy wager on the Under since we are getting the worst of the number.

This is a “Pros vs. Joe’s” scenario in the betting market as nearly 60% of the cash is on the Under but roughly two-thirds of the bets placed are on the Over, according to Pregame.com.

The presumed “sharp” side of the market has forced oddsmakers to move the Trail Blazers-Clippers total down from the 234-point opener. So, while the Under is the play, a lot of the value is gone.

Portland Trail Blazers at Los Angeles Clippers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Portland Trail Blazers at Los Angeles Clippers NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Los Angeles Clippers (33-18) host the Portland Trail Blazers (30-19) Tuesday at Staples Center for a 10 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we analyze the Trail Blazers-Clippers odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Portland has won five of its past six and seven of the last 10 games while going 6-4 against the spread, including a 133-85 mopping of the tanking Oklahoma City Thunder as 12.5-point home favorites Saturday.

The Blazers’ last three losses have come against the “cream of the crop” of the Association in the Milwaukee Bucks, Brooklyn Nets and a surging Dallas Mavericks team.

The Clippers got back on track with a 104-86 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers Sunday following back-to-back losses to the Orlando Magic and Denver Nuggets; however, L.A. is 7-2 straight up and ATS in its last nine games.

L.A. won and covered each of its past four games against Portland since signing Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in 2019.

The Clippers beat the brakes off of the Blazers 128-105 as 5.5-point road favorites in their first meeting this season.

Trail Blazers at Clippers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Clippers 119, Blazers 109

Money line (ML)

PASS because Los Angeles will most likely win this game but Clippers (-250) is most definitely NOT a bet I’d make.

L.A.’s money line is far too expensive against a Portland team that isn’t far behind in the standings.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Both teams are top-five in offensive rating and each struggle against elite offenses, but Portland is much worse.

The Blazers have the second-lowest net efficiency and ATS margin (minus-7.9 points) vs. teams in the top-10 of points per 100 possessions, according to CleaningTheGlass.com.

Also, L.A. is 7-4 ATS at home vs. teams with a winning record and Portland covered in only four of its past five games against teams with a winning record.

BET CLIPPERS -6 (-110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

Slight “LEAN” toward UNDER 228.5 (-110) for a quarter-unit because both teams play at a bottom-10 pace so offensive execution needs to be on-point for Trail Blazers-Clippers to cash Over tickets.

Also, we have a “fade the market” angle here as nearly three-fourths of the market is backing the Under, according to Pregame.com. Simply put, 75% of sports gamblers don’t win money.

Trail Blazers at Clippers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Clippers 113, Trail Blazers 106

Money line (ML)

The Trail Blazers have won back-to-back games following their opening game 20-point blowout loss against the Utah Jazz. Portland beat a banged-up Houston Rockets team in overtime Saturday and got a little regular-season revenge on the Los Angeles Lakers in a 115-107 win Monday.

Aside from a 124-73 annihilation by the Dallas Mavericks Sunday, the Clippers have looked awesome to start the season. Los Angeles recovered to win its last game against the Minnesota Timberwolves 124-101 Tuesday without its star Leonard for a second consecutive game.

Kawhi’s status heading into Wednesday’s game against the Trail Blazers is still unknown as he’s recovering from a knockout blow he suffered in a collision with teammate C Serge Ibaka on Christmas.

The Clippers beat the Trail Blazers 3-0 in last season’s regular-season series and covered all three games, including their final head-to-head in the bubble without Kawhi. If you remember, the Clippers had very little to play for while the Trail Blazers were pushing for a playoff berth when Los Angeles won as a 4-point underdog on Aug. 8.

Portland had the third-worst defensive efficiency last season and I don’t think the addition of F Robert Covington makes enough of an impact to back the Blazers against the Clippers. I’d imagine this line is set under the assumption that Kawhi misses the game because -175 is a great price for the Clippers if he’s active.

Otherwise, it’s a PASS for me because you’d have to pay too much vig to take a team without its best player vs. what should be a playoff-contending Portland team.

Against the spread (ATS)

SG Paul George was spectacular in his two games vs. the Trail Blazers last season, averaging 23 points per game on 57.7% field-goal shooting and 69.2% from deep. He’s certainly capable of stepping up for one game against a bad defensive backcourt.

Also, Trent is my pick for NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season and his status is questionable at the moment. If Trent cannot play or is limited, that has line value in Trail Blazers-Clippers.

I’m on the CLIPPERS -4.5 (+100) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

This is a Pros vs. Joes scenario in the Trail Blazers-Clippers total market: 79% of the money is on the Under while 63% of the bets placed are on the Over, according to Pregame.com. The money side of the market is generally sharper than the bets/tickets column and for that reason, I lean UNDER 225.5 (-110) for a quarter-unit.
