Big Sky Tournament: Northern Colorado vs. Portland State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Northern Colorado vs. Portland State Big Sky Tournament odds, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Northern Colorado Bears (11-19, 6-12 Big Sky) and Portland State Vikings (12-18, 6-11) square off Saturday in a Big Sky Conference Tournament 1st-round matchup. Tip from Idaho Central Arena in Boise is at 10 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Northern Colorado vs. Portland State odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Northern Colorado snapped a 3-game losing and non-cover streak with an 87-72 win and cover against Idaho State in the regular-season finale on Feb. 27. The Over has cashed in 4 straight, and 6 of the past 7 games, for NorCo.

Portland State ended the season on a 3-game losing skid, and it failed to cover in each of those outings. The Vikings are 2-8 against the spread (ATS) in the past 10 games overall while the Over has connected in 6 of their last 7 games.

Northern Colorado swept the regular-season series, winning 69-67 in Portland on Jan. 14 and 88-79 at home on Feb. 9. The Bears covered both meetings, too, while splitting the Over-Under.

Northern Colorado vs. Portland State picks and predictions

Prediction

Northern Colorado 84, Portland State 77

Moneyline

The moneyline was OTB at the time of publishing.

However, when it opens Northern Colorado might be worth pursuing since it swept Portland State in each outing and shouldn’t be priced terribly high. As long as the Bears are cheaper than my personal moneyline limit of -180, they’re worth some consideration.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

The play is NORTHERN COLORADO -2.5 (-115), as it swept Portland State this season.

While it is difficult to win 3 times against the same team, the Bears are very good on neutral-floor games. Northern Colorado is 4-1 ATS in the past 5 neutral-site affairs.

The Vikings are a dismal 2-8 ATS in the past 10 games overall, 1-6 ATS in their last 7 after a non-cover and 1-5 ATS in the past 6 after a straight-up loss.

Over/Under

OVER 159.5 (-105) is the lean in this Big Sky 1st-round action.

The Over is 6-1 in the past 7 games for Portland State and is 4-0 in its last 4 neutral-site games.

The Over has cashed in 4 straight for NorCo and is 5-1 in the past 6 against teams with a losing overall record.

Portland State at Northern Colorado odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Portland State at Northern Colorado odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Portland State Vikings (10-14, 4-7 Big Sky) visit the Northern Colorado Bears (8-16, 3-9) on Thursday. Tip from Bank of Colorado Arena is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Portland State vs. Northern Colorado odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Portland State fell to Eastern Washington 98-88 on Saturday, failing to cover as a 4.5-point home underdog. It is just 4-6 straight up (SU) and 2-8 against the spread (ATS) in its last 10 games. The Vikings are 8-14 ATS on the season.

Northern Colorado destroyed Weber State 88-54 on Monday, easily covering as a 2-point home favorite. The victory broke a 3-game losing skid for NorCo, but it is still just 3-7 SU in its last 10 games. The Bears are 4-6 ATS over that span as they have slipped to 9-14 ATS this season.

Northern Colorado took down Portland State 69-67 to cover as a 5-point road underdog in their first matchup this season on Jan. 14 as the Under (157.5) connected.

Against the spread

LEAN NORTHERN COLORADO -4.5 (-110).

The Bears seem to have found the spark they were looking for with a 34-point victory on Monday. At 4-3 ATS in their last 7 games and 2-1 ATS in their last 3 home games, NorCo is starting to put the necessary pieces together. The Bears are also 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a win of more than 20 points.

The Vikings have been struggling recently with a 0-4 ATS record in their last 4 games and a 0-5 ATS record in their last 5 Thursday games.

Over/Under

As it stands, 156.5 points would be the 2nd-highest closing line in both the Bears’ and Vikings’ last 10 games.

The Under is 5-1 in the Vikings’ last 6 road games following 3 or more consecutive home games and 5-1 in their last 6 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400.

The Under is also 5-1 in the Bears’ last 6 games following a win of 20 or more points.

BET UNDER 156.5 (-115).

Portland State vs. Gonzaga odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Portland State at Gonzaga odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Portland State Vikings (2-2) will be in downtown Portland to take on the No. 5 Gonzaga Bulldogs (3-1) Friday at 12:30 a.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Portland State vs. Gonzaga odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Ranking courtesy of USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

Gonzaga beat Kentucky 88-72 on Sunday, covering as 3.5-point favorites and hope ride player-of-the-year contender Drew Timme to another victory over an overmatched opponent.

Gonzaga is one of the most efficient offenses in the country and against Kentucky, averaged more than 1 point per possession while holding Kentucky to under .8 per possession.

Not only does Gonzaga have bodies to rebound down low, but the Bulldogs also have guards who can shoot a 3-pointer when needed. It will not be needed in this game. But it is nice to get some practice before getting into more challenging games in the future.

After beating someone called Evergreen State 113-40 last Wednesday, Portland State got its 2nd victory of the season Saturday — 79-66 at Oregon State as 7.5-point underdogs. The Vikings will have no imagination of an upset in this game. They can only hope to use this experience to get better and learn from the superior athletes on the Bulldogs roster. While this is a big game for Portland State, it is an exhibition for Gonzaga.

Portland State vs. Gonzaga picks and predictions

Prediction

Gonzaga 100, Portland State 65

Moneyline

PASS.

Portland State has absolutely no chance and there’s no way you can bet on Gonzaga’s price.

Against the spread

BET GONZAGA -28.5 (-115).

Gonzaga loves to stomp the life out of smaller schools it plays. Not being in a large conference, the Bulldogs run the score up on any opponent possible to make their case to get a No. 1 seed in the tournament. Portland State will be the next victim in its assault.

If Gonzaga could, they would win this game by 50 and my feeling is these -28.5 numbers could easily also be the spread at halftime of this matchup. Gonzaga will get ahead and coast. The Bulldogs -28.5 (-115) is my favorite play.

Over/Under

BET OVER 162.5 (115).

Gonzaga has gone over the posted total in 3 of its 4 games. The lone game that was not the 64-63 win over Michigan State on the USS Abraham Lincoln. This game is on solid ground and Gonzaga is going to use the solid footing to get up and down the floor and put massive points up. The only concern here is that Portland State might score enough. Gonzaga will likely get to 100 and I think Portland State will get to the mid 60’s to hit Over 162.5 (-115).

Big Sky Tournament: Portland State vs. Northern Colorado odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Portland State vs. Northern Colorado odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The 7th-seeded Portland State Vikings (14-16) meet the No. 3-seed Northern Colorado Bears (19-14) in a Big Sky Tournament semifinal Friday night in Boise, Idaho. The contest at Idaho Central Arena is slated to tip at 10 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Portland State vs. Northern Colorado odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Portland State has won tourney games over Idaho State (Wednesday) and Southern Utah (Thursday) and has overall won six of its last seven.

The fast-paced Portland State in the Big Sky has often had trouble with knocking down shots and preventing the same. But in two tournament games, PSU has shot 49.0% from the floor while holding foes to a 34.7% mark.

Northern Colorado was swept by the Vikings in the regular season. UNC and PSU played each other in back-to-back games Jan. 31 and Feb. 3. Since then, the Bears have gone 9-3, mostly due to tremendous 3-point shooting.

UNC has shot 40.1% from distance over that stretch. Northern Colorado advanced in the tourney with a 68-67 win over Eastern Washington Thursday.

Portland State vs. Northern Colorado odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Northern Colorado 75, Portland State 72

Money line

PASS.

There are better plays to leverage elsewhere.

Against the spread

The underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last five series meetings. And that’s the lean here.

Portland State did well to game control itself to victory in game No. 1 versus UNC. Game 2 was more of a momentum-swing affair: the Bears — at home — led much of the second half but mostly by a margin of 3-to-6 points.

The younger Vikings squad is on a solid trend line with its overall play. With some push in the turnover exchange and some regression in UNC’s distance shooting, a PSU within-a-score-late expectation is reasonable.

TAKE PORTLAND STATE +4.5 (-120).

Over/Under

Northern Colorado has a history of running with faster teams and generating Overs on a consistent basis. But this total started too high at 154.5. It may be a tad high still.

Much profit potential has been sapped from this play, but the UNDER 150.5 (-115) is still a slight lean.

Portland State at Northern Colorado odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Portland State at Northern Colorado odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Portland State Vikings (6-13, 4-7 Big Sky) and the Northern Colorado Bears (10-10, 5-3) meet in a Big Sky contest Thursday in Greeley, Colo. Tip-off from Bank of Colorado Arena is slated for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Portland State vs. Northern Colorado odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Portland State has struggled in shooting the basketball for much of this season but heads into Thursday on a two-game win streak that has seen them shoot a combined 50.4% from the field. The second of those wins was a 79-76 victory Monday over these same Northern Colorado Bears.

Northern Colorado has been the best shooting team by effective field-goal percentage in the Big Sky this season, and has shot 46.5% from the floor and 37.7% from 3-point range. However, UNC trailed Monday’s game by as many as 24 points before storming back to tie the game with 5:19 remaining.

Portland State at Northern Colorado odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Northern Colorado 78, Portland State 68

Money line

No value to be had on either side: PASS.

Against the spread

Portland State went 11-for-25 from 3-point range to pull out the victory Monday. The middle 20 minutes of that game saw the Vikings maintain a lead of 8-16 points most of the way and by as many as 24 at one point.

However, look for the Bears to be a big enough plus in shooting normally to get most of the way to covering this figure. Add in a big expected edge in attempts at the foul line, and UNC figures to get this game into double-digit territory.

BACK NORTHERN COLORADO -8.5 (-108).

Over/Under

Monday’s game hit the Over as it sailed past a total of 149.5. The lean in this one is on gravity pulling some possessions down a bit in a second-time-around battle.

Consider a partial-unit play on the UNDER 148.5 (-110), but waiting out a higher total would be the value play.

Portland State at Hawaii odds, expert picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Portland State at Hawaii odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Portland State Vikings and Hawaii Rainbow Warriors meet Saturday at Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex in Honolulu. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:59 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Portland State vs. Hawaii odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Portland State played just one game in the spring and was drummed 48-7 at Montana. At least the Vikings will be used to the quiet of a smattering of fans, as they have played in front of just 4,569 total fans since the end of the 2019 season. The Ching Athletics Complex has a capacity of only 9,000.

Hawaii (0-1) plays games at its practice facility due to issues with Aloha Stadium, and the Warriors are expected to be displaced through at least the 2022 season. The fans haven’t been what has marooned teams visiting the islands, it’s the travel. That isn’t changing, so expect Hawaii to still enjoy a home-field advantage of sorts.

The Rainbow Warriors were hammered 44-10 on the road against UCLA in its opener on the mainland. Look for QB Chevan Cordeiro and the home side to be much different here.

Portland State at Hawaii odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Hawaii 45, Portland State 17

Money line

The way Hawaii (-2500) looked last week, you can’t risk 25 times your potential return. You can’t really do that, anyway. Over the long haul, it’s a losing betting strategy.

AVOID.

Against the spread

HAWAII -25.5 (-108) is back in the islands, and it gets an FCS opponent in Portland State to take out frustrations from Week 0.

The Rainbow Warriors had tremendous difficulty against UCLA last week but expect plenty of wide-open spaces and big plays in their home opener. Cordeiro and the Rainbow Warriors will get the passing offense rolling.

Over/Under

OVER 56.5 (-115) is a great play and the Rainbow Warriors have the potential to take care of a huge chunk of the Over on their own. They’ll roll up huge offensive totals against the undermanned Vikings, sending them back to the mainland with an L in a higher-scoring game.
