Michigan State football makes Top-5 for 3-star defensive end Popeye Williams

The Spartans made the final cut for a top ten player in Indiana.

Mel Tucker and Michigan State football are down to the final cut to land Popeye, and we aren’t talking about the guy who eats spinach. On Friday, 3-star defensive end Popeye Williams dropped his Top-5, and the Spartans were included.

Williams is the No. 23 ranked weak side defensive end in the 2022 recruiting class and the No. 9 ranked player in the state of Indiana by 247Sports. He is also the No. 436 ranked player overall.

His Top-5 includes:

  • Nebraska
  • Cincinnati
  • Louisville
  • Purdue
  • Michigan State

Tennessee offers 2022 Indiana defensive end

The Vols ventured into Indiana to offer this defensive prospect.

The Tennessee Volunteers are searching for talent in Big Ten country.

The Vols extended a scholarship offer to defensive end Popeye Williams from Westfield, Indiana.

Williams is a 6-foot-3, 225-pound prospect that rates as a three-star and the No. 18 weak-side defensive end in his class per the 247Sports Composite. Williams is the No. 8 player in Indiana.

The junior at Westfield High School already has offers from several major Big Ten programs such as Michigan State, Penn State, Wisconsin and Nebraska.

A few SEC schools are also in the mix for Williams, including Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee.

The Vols have only one prospect committed to the 2022 recruiting class, three-star defensive end Jimmy Scott from New York.

On Thursday night, 2022 3-star weakside defensive Popeye Williams announced that he has received an offer from the Spartans.

Williams is a 6’3, 225 lbs lineman from Westfield, Indiana, and is currently ranked as the No. 5 best recruiting prospect in the state of Indiana and the No. 14 ranked weakside defensive end in the 2022 class according to 247Sports.

The Spartans will have some tough competition for Popeye Williams’ recruitment as Alabama, Penn State and Wisconsin have all already offered Williams as well.
