Pokemon GO Valentine’s Day adds Mega Gardevoir, Shiny Tapu Lele

The upcoming Pokemon GO Valentine’s Day event adds Mega Gardevoir, new Shiny Pokemon, and a Furfrou form to the mobile game

The upcoming Pokemon GO Valentine’s Day event adds Mega Gardevoir, new Shiny Pokemon, and a Furfrou form, alongside a new move for Gardevoir or Gallade you obtain during the event. The Mythical Wishes Valentine event runs from Feb. 8, 2023, through Feb. 14, 2023, with a special Luvdisc Research Day planned for Feb. 11, 2023, with an increased chance of finding Shiny Luvdisc.

During the Mythical Wishes event, you can encounter Mega Gardevoir for the first time in Mega Raids. Kirlia you evolve into Gardevoir or Gallade will learn the new move Synchronise as well, and you can encounter Gardevoir and Gallade in raids after the event who will know the move.

Complete the Lovely Wishes timed research to earn either extra candy or extra XP and a chance to encounter Shiny Frillish. This is the first time Frillish’s shiny form will be available in the mobile game.

For the event’s duration, you can change your normal form Furfrou to heart trim Furfrou. You also have a higher chance of finding Furfrou – possibly a Shiny one, at that – along with Flebebe, Skitty, Illumise, both Nidoran genders, and Woobat, all of whom except Flebebe may be Shiny. Less common finds include Shiny Chansey, Audino, and Alomomola.

Finally, on the Raid front, you may encounter Shiny Tapu Lele in 5-star Raids, the first time this Pokemon’s Shiny variant has shown up.

The Pokemon GO blog has the full list of events and special appearances. If you’re attending the Pokemon GO Hoenn Tour, keep an eye out for Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre as well.

A new Fairy type joins the Pokemon Unite roster soon

Comfey, the Lei Pokemon, makes their debut in the Pokemon Unite MOBA soon, the Pokemon Company and TiMi Games announced

Comfey, the Lei Pokemon, makes their debut in the Pokemon Unite soon, the Pokemon Company and TiMi Games announced on Twitter. The new addition to the MOBA game‘s roster will be available on Feb. 2, 2023, on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices and is reportedly a special attacker.

The Pokemon Company didn’t share details about what to expect from Comfey, but Pokemon Unite leaks from 2022 suggest they’ll be a blend of support and attack who can attach themselves to allies and grant buffs. This feature is unique to Comfey and is also in line with their role in mainline Pokemon games, where they’re meant to offer refreshment and ease to those around them.

As for actual attacks, the leaks point to Grass Knot and Magical Leaf as likely move candidates, alongside Sweet Kiss and Charm.

Comfey’s announcement comes as a surprise, following another round of datamining in 2022 that leaked several of Pokemon Unite’s upcoming critters, including Zoroark and Clefable. Comfey was not on the list, nor was the last addition, Dragopult, so it’s likely The Pokemon Company has plenty more surprises up its sleeve as well.

How much this surprise will cost is unclear, though new Pokemon tend to go for about $8 or $10 in the free-to-play Pokemon Unite.

Pokemon GO adds Primal Groudon and Kyogre in new Hoenn event

Niantic is adding Primal Pokemon to Pokemon GO in the mobile game’s new Tour Hoenn event, but not everyone can join in

Niantic is adding Primal Pokemon to Pokemon GO in the mobile game’s new Tour Hoenn event, the publisher announced in a new blog post, but not everyone can join in at first. Game Freak introduced Primal forms in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire for the Nintendo 3DS as new variants of Kyogre and Groudon, but, perhaps on account of the feature only applying to two Pokemon, it’s yet to appear in GO.

If you’re in Las Vegas in February, though, you’ll finally get to transform your Kyogre and Groudon into their Primal forms. During Pokemon GO Tour Hoenn: Las Vegas, players can encounter Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre during special raids, so make sure your Raid team is up to the task.

Defeating them increases your Primal Energy reserves, and once you have enough stored up, your Kyogre or Groudon can revert to their Primal forms.

The state lasts for eight hours, and the amount of energy required drops with each successive transformation. Both Pokemon know special moves and grant buffs to certain Pokemon types in raids or make it easier to find them in the wild.

If a stop in Sin City isn’t on your itinerary for the month, Niantic is planning more opportunities during Pokemon GO Tour Hoenn – Global later in 2023. During the event, players can complete special Primal Research tasks to generate Primal Energy for their Pokemon.

The official Pokemon TikTok accidentally uploaded an expletive-filled video

The Pokemon TikTok account uploaded a video of a rather foul-mouthed Pikachu on accident before quickly removing it

The Pokemon TikTok account uploaded a video of a rather foul-mouthed Pikachu on accident before quickly removing it – but the internet was faster and saved a copy first (thanks, Nintendo Life). The 12-second clip shows someone dressed in a Pikachu costume, dancing around a Lucario to the tune of “If you’re happy and you know it.”

Only they aren’t clapping, and they don’t sound very happy. Instead, they’re just spouting a string of m-f bombs.

You can find the video on Twitter still, thanks to user Josh Withey, but if you click that link, make sure you’re in a place that isn’t your workplace and where sensitive ears won’t overhear.

It’s an odd choice for a video anyway and an even stranger situation to see the official Pokemon account uploading it. The Pokemon Company guards its brand fiercely, with few slip-ups since the days of rather questionable decisions in the original Pokemon anime. Perhaps someone didn’t realize what was being said in the video, or it was saved for other reasons and accidentally uploaded instead of the intended video.

Either way, it didn’t last long. The Pokemon Company took it down within an hour.

Speaking of brand protection, The Pokemon Company also announced a new Scarlet and Violet update planned for February to help squash more of the monster-catching RPGs’ pesky, plentiful bugs.

New Pokemon GO event adds Mega Salamence and more

The Pokemon GO Twinkling Fantasy event brings a new Mega Evolution and a chance to find some rare Dragon and Fairy Pokemon

Twinkling Fantasy, the next Pokemon GO event, is coming up fast and Niantic promises a chance to catch Mega Salamence, along with some rare Fairy and Dragon-type Pokemon as well. Pokemon GO Twinkling Fantasy starts Jan. 10, 2023, at 8 a.m. local time and runs until Jan. 16, 2023, at 10 p.m. local time.

During the mobile game‘s new event, you have a chance of finding Mega Salamence, a Dragon-Flying hybrid, in Mega Raids, and if you’re especially lucky, it might even be Shiny. Zekrom will also show up in 5-star Raids, with Druddigon in 3-star Raids. Zekrom will stick around in 5-star Raids until Jan. 18, 2023.

This main attraction accompanies the usual event perks, such as increased XP bonuses and more candy if you time your throws well.

On the catching side, you have an increased chance of finding certain Fairy types, including Clefairy, Marill, and Dedenne, and select Dragon types, such as Dratini and Deino. Some of these may also be Shiny, and there’s an even rarer chance of encountering Shiny Noibat or regular Goomy.

The event comes with a new set of field research tasks, as always, and when you take a picture during the event, you might have a surprise encounter with a random Dragon or Fairy type.

20 best songs from Pokémon soundtracks

Pokémon has some of the most iconic music in gaming history, but we’ve searched the whole series for the very best tracks.

There are many things that can define a Pokémon Generation, but one that you may not have considered is musical style. Pokémon music is some of the most iconic in all of gaming thanks to how effectively it conveys character and emotion with very simple techniques. It has battle themes that stick in your head, and overworld themes that carry you along your grand adventure.

Each Generation does something unique with its music. Whether it’s the bold trumpets of Hoenn, the sombre piano of Sinnoh, or the full-force electro-rock of Galar, no two regions sound the same. We’ve gone through the entire series to find the very best Pokémon songs of all time.

The 25 worst Pokémon of all time

Most Pokémon are brilliant, but with over 900 creatures and counting there are bound to be some stinkers. Here are the 20 worst offenders.

The vast majority of Pokémon are brilliant. From Gengar to Tyranitar, to Blastoise and beyond, Game Freak’s widely lauded catch-’em-up has some of the most inspired designs in video game history. With over 900 ‘mons and counting though, it’s only natural that the roster also includes some pure stinkers.

We’re talking about ice cream with two heads, sentient gears, and great big piles of actual sludge. Boomers will be furious to learn that there are literal snowflakes in Pokémon, too — snowflakes who ensnare their prey using chains made of ice crystals. Try telling them they can “just buy a house.”

[mm-video type=video id=01fvy8p775wj3pt3nf0c playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fvy8p775wj3pt3nf0c/01fvy8p775wj3pt3nf0c-7630941adab44757c5a5730291e36a5a.jpg]

If we had to make a guess, we’d estimate that around 10% of Pokémon are plain bad. After much deliberation though, we’ve settled on the fact that exactly 25 Pokémon are even worse than that. They are, in the nicest way possible, some of the most pointless, hideous, or frankly stupid creatures in the history of human imagination.

Here are the 25 worst Pokémon of all time, ranked from least terrible to utterly irredeemable.

And no, the keys aren’t on it.

The top ten Fairy Pokémon, ranked

From Togepi to Clefable, here are the top ten Fairy Pokémon of all time, ranked from worst to best.

Ever since they first appeared in the world of Pokémon, Fairy-types have been a major point of contention among fans. In a way, their introduction in Gen 6 was crucial to reinvigorating the Pokémon formula, which had become a little predictable, at least in the competitive circuit. Making these ‘mons hit Dragon, Dark, and Fighting-types super-effectively though? Arguably a bit much.

Still, it’s difficult to refute just how important Fairy Pokémon have become to the series now, propelling Steel-types into the upper echelon of competitively viable Pokémon while simultaneously lifting an underused type like Poison out of obscurity. That’s not to mention how great some of the best Fairy-type Pokémon are in general, including both newer ‘mons designed with Fairy in mind and existing fan-favourites who retroactively had their typing changed to include Fairy as a hybrid part of them.

Because of this, we’ve decided to pick out the top ten Fairy Pokémon and rank them in order of how good they are. As with our lists of the best Fire Pokémon, best Dragon Pokémon, and so on, every evolutionary family is only allowed to be represented by one Pokémon from it. If Azumarill makes the cut, then Azurill and Marill are out. Not that any of those ‘mons made the top ten anyway.

[mm-video type=video id=01frjwakwjgg06y7rc42 playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01frjwakwjgg06y7rc42/01frjwakwjgg06y7rc42-d5933706e31a6f60272b3b57268fae41.jpg]

They did make the honourable mentions though, which are as follows:

  • Azumarill
  • Zacian
  • Diancie
  • Jigglypuff
  • Galarian Rapidash
  • Grimmsnarl
  • Hatterene

Some decent Fairies there for sure, but unfortunately none fit to enlist with the Ballonlea elite. Here are the best Fairy Pokémon of all time, ranked from worst to best.

Every Legendary Pokémon, ranked

Here’s a list of all 62 Legendary Pokémon, ranked from worst to best.

One of the strangest things about Legendary Pokémon is that there are now 62 of them — and that’s without including Mythicals like Mew, Celebi, and Jirachi. In a way, the fact that approximately 7% of Pokémon are now considered ‘Legendary’ almost takes away from the magic that term is supposed to hold.

Still, these Pokémon are all one of a kind. After putting together lists of the ten best Legendary Pokémon and ten worst Legendary Pokémon, we decided to take on the Sisyphean task of officially ranking all 68, because why not? Someone had to do it eventually.

[mm-video type=video id=01fvy8p775wj3pt3nf0c playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fvy8p775wj3pt3nf0c/01fvy8p775wj3pt3nf0c-7630941adab44757c5a5730291e36a5a.jpg]

This was implied in the first paragraph, but for the sake of clarity: This list only includes Legendary Pokémon, meaning that no Mythicals appear here. If you’re annoyed about why Mew isn’t number one, it’s because it is — technically speaking — not a Legendary Pokémon. Mewtwo, on the other hand, is.

Here are all 62 Legendary Pokémon currently known to exist, ranked from worst to best. Buckle up, folks — this is going to be a wild ride.

The best starter Pokemon, ranked

Here’s a list of every single Pokémon starter, ranked from worst to best.

Agreeing to rank every starter Pokémon is basically the same thing as offering to be the main course at a restaurant full of starving humans. While 29 starters might not seem like a whole lot, everyone in the world could have their own unique ranking and nobody would ever be happy with anyone else’s. Even thinking about opening this can of Wurmple is a surefire way of instigating pure chaos.

Fortunately, we’ve decided to impose order on that chaos. This, reader, is the only correct Pokémon starter ranking that has ever been published, compiled using complex, highly secretive cutting-edge science that we are unfortunately incapable of revealing the methodology behind at this time. We apologise for any inconvenience caused – this is just too big a breakthrough to disclose the details.

Here’s every single Pokémon starter, ranked from worst to best.
