Steelers EDGE T.J. Watt OUT with knee injury

T.J. Watt is out for the remainder of the game.

Shortly after taking the league lead in sacks, T.J. Watt headed to the sideline with what looked to be a friendly-fire knee injury.

After a stint in the medical tent, Watt exited the field under his own power. He’s been ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Already thin Steelers secondary suffers critical injury

Eric Rowe, who’s proved to be a solid addition after the collapse of the Steelers safety room, is questionable to return with a neck injury.

Eric Rowe, who’s proved to be a solid addition after the collapse of the Pittsburgh Steelers safety room, is questionable to return with a neck injury.

Rowe, called up for the third time this season, was evaluated during the second half. No thanks to injuries and suspensions, Rowe was starting alongside Patrick Peterson. Miles Killebrew and Elijah Riley are the only remaining safeties with Minkah Fitzpatrick and Trenton Thompson sidelined and Damontae Kazee is serving a suspension.

Prior to his injury, Rowe was leading in tackles with five.

Broderick Jones says Steelers ‘kicking the door down’ to AFC playoffs

The Steelers need a lot to go their way this weekend, but Broderick Jones is pushing for it.

The Pittsburgh Steelers need a lot to go their way this weekend, but rookie offensive lineman Broderick Jones is pushing for it.

“Slip up and let us in we kicking the door down,” he recently posted in his Instagram story.

All is not lost for Pittsburgh to make it happen, but it’s not a win-and-get-in situation. If only it were. Unfortunately, its three-game skid in the middle of the second half of the season put a wrench in those plans.

The Steelers need to beat the Baltimore Ravens for the most straightforward path. If the Steelers win, they need one of two things to happen to get into the playoffs: The Jacksonville Jaguars (versus Tennessee Titans) or Buffalo Bills (versus the Miami Dolphins) must lose one of their games to the Tennessee Titans or Miami Dolphins.

We’d rather not think about it, but there is a route should the Steelers lose this afternoon. If that were to happen, they’d need the Jaguars to lose specifically and the Denver Broncos to beat the Las Vegas Raiders.

Steelers vs. Ravens: 9 players show up on final injury report

The Steelers could be shorthanded when they roll into the Charm City on Saturday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves in another must-win situation as they travel to Baltimore on Saturday to take on the Lamar Jackson-less Ravens.

With multiple players limited and others not practicing, the Steelers could be rolling into Charm City a bit shorthanded.

Here’s the injury/participation report for the final practice of Week 18:

Steelers vs. Ravens: 3 defenders questionable for 2023 season finale

Three Steelers defenders are questionable heading into their 2023 season finale showdown with the Ravens.

Three Pittsburgh Steelers defenders are questionable heading into their 2023 season finale matchup with the Baltimore Ravens.

Safeties Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee) and Trenton Thompson (neck), along with linebacker Elandon Roberts (pectoral), were all limited in their final practice of the week, and their statuses are in doubt for Saturday’s game.

Fitzpatrick and Thompson sustained injuries in Pittsburgh’s Week 15 loss to the Colts. Fitzpatrick had just returned two weeks prior after being sidelined four games with a hamstring injury.

Fighting through multiple injuries of his own throughout the season, Roberts was the only inside linebacker left standing after the unit rebuilt in the offseason crumbled around him. He told reporters today that he plans to play.

The last time Steelers QB Mason Rudolph faced the Ravens, they tried to take his head off

It was a frightening scene at Heinz Field.

October 6, 2019. It was a frightening scene at Heinz Field.

Mason Rudolph had been given the keys to the Pittsburgh Steelers offense a few weeks earlier after Ben Roethlisberger was sidelined with a season-ending elbow injury.

Games are always a touch more physical between division rivals, and this matchup between the Steelers and Baltimore Ravens was a prime example.

Under pressure on a critical 3rd & 11 from the Pittsburgh 12-yard line, Rudolph ran to buy time before completing a 26-yard pass to James Washington.  On the play, he was knocked unconscious by a nasty hit to the jaw from Baltimore safety Earl Thomas. The crown of his helmet connected with Rudolph’s head and sent him to the turf.

The play drew a flag, eventually leading to a $21,000 fine for Thomas. It was debated for weeks — probably still would be today — whether the hit was dirty.

Players gathered around Rudolph’s motionless body, and cameras captured JuJu Smith-Schuster crying as he watched the scene unfold. Fans booed as the video boards replayed the hit, and chants of “throw him out” soon followed. Thomas was not ejected, and the league stood by its decision, stating it didn’t “raise to the standard of a disqualification,” per rules analyst Dean Blandino.

Several anxious moments later, Rudolph was helped to his feet minus his face mask — an image people still can’t get out of their heads four years later.

To add insult to injury, when medical staff tried to get Rudolph off the field, the cart was inoperable, and Rudolph was forced to be guided gingerly to the locker room.

Pittsburgh lost in a close one, 26-23, leaving them with a 1-5 record.

It was a tough first season of play for the second-year quarterback. After missing the following week in concussion protocol, Rudolph returned and led the Steelers to the opposite 5-1 record. His one loss in that span was to the Cleveland Browns in the infamous Helmetgate game, where Myles Garrett clobbered Rudolph with Rudolph’s own helmet.

Despite the 5-1 record, he was benched for Devlin “Duck” Hodges. When the short-lived phenomenon died and Duck was yanked in the middle of the Week 16 loss to the Jets, Rudolph came in and injured his shoulder 20 attempts later.

Statistically, Rudolph’s first season at the helm was a mixed bag. He won five of eight starts, but with nine interceptions and four fumbles, turnovers were an issue. He finished with 1,726 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Let’s hope Rudolph’s first time facing the Ravens since that dreadful day in 2019 is a little less dramatic and ends with the Steelers still in playoff contention.

Steelers vs. Ravens injury report: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Elandon Roberts return to practice

Minkah Fitzpatrick, Elandon Roberts returned to practice on Wednesday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers got some great news on the injury front as two key defenders, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and linebacker Elandon Roberts, returned to practice on Wednesday.

It was Fitzpatrick’s first practice since injuring his knee in Pittsburgh’s Week 15 loss to the Colts. Roberts missed Week 16 with a pectoral injury.

Here are the nine players who participated in the first practice of Ravens Week:

Diontae Johnson sounds off about Steelers’ playoff chances

The Steelers painted themselves in a corner as the 2023 regular season winds down.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in a real bind as the 2023 regular season winds down. Like in recent seasons, they need help to get into the playoffs. They don’t like to make it easy on themselves, do they?

In speaking with Steelers media today, Diontae Johnson said what we all did a few weeks ago.

“We shot ourselves in the foot those two games we should have won,” he said via 93.7 The Fan. Johnson should’ve said three, as the Steelers hit a three-game losing streak in the middle of the season’s second half with losses to the Arizona Cardinals, New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts.

But like any focused player in his position, he’s moved onto the season finale showdown with the best-in-league Baltimore Ravens.

“We can only control what we can control and keep trying to finish this season strong, and that’s winning on Saturday.”

The oddsmakers at BetMGM currently have the Ravens as 3.5-point favorites over the Steelers. At 13-3, Baltimore owns the longest win streak in the NFL with six, having last lost back in Week 10 to the Cleveland Browns. Pittsburgh, however, has their number with a 6-1 record since 2020 — three of those wins have come at M&T Bank Stadium.

Like the Steelers, the Ravens only did a walk-through on Tuesday, and head coach John Harbaugh said on Monday he wasn’t sure what his team’s personnel would look like on Saturday. They’ve clinched the division and No. 1 seed, so playing their starters would only be for pride and bragging rights should they secure a victory. Either way, the Steelers are in for a real battle, as always, against their divisional rivals.

Steelers vs. Ravens injury report: Kenny Pickett full walk-through participant

As the Steelers prepare for the 2023 regular season finale, they appear to be in decent shape from a health perspective.

As the Pittsburgh Steelers prepare for the 2023 regular season finale, they appear to be in decent shape from a health perspective. Had they held an actual practice today, Kenny Pickett would’ve logged his first full practice since Dec. 4 ankle surgery. His timetable for return is accurate — four games removed from Week 13 — but Rudolph has edged him out with two straight wins.

Seven players are listed on the estimated injury/participation report for Week 18:
