ACC football team recruiting rankings – early August update

FSU jumps Clemson but the Tigers average recruit ranking remains higher. An updated look at the 2024 ACC team recruiting rankings.

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football program have been working hard in the 2024 recruiting class and have successfully built one of the country’s top classes up to this point.

Two top-tier recruits highlight Clemson’s 2024 class in linebacker Sammy Brown and wide receiver Bryant Wesco, each with the talent to be a future star for the program. The latest addition to the Tigers class was four-star cornerback Corian Gipson, who committed to the Tigers Saturday over Texas and others.

With 17 commitments in the class, the Tigers have one of the strongest classes in the country but are no longer the strongest in the ACC. Florida State has recently jumped Clemson in the rankings. However, Clemson holds the higher average recruit rank.

Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi says, ‘You gotta beat Clemson’ to get to the ACC Championship

Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi had this to say about Clemson.

The 2023 ACC Football Kickoff is off to a hot start after day one. Wednesday’s day two brings different ACC teams to the media to discuss their team, the Conference, and the season ahead of them.

The 2023 season in the ACC will look much different than any other before, with the Conference moving away from divisions and doing its first season with the 3-5-5 format. Rather than the divisional winners making the ACC Championship, it will now be the top two teams based on winning percentage to make the game.

A major shift, Pittsburgh Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi and his program know a bit about what it takes to make the ACC Championship, and even with the lack of divisions, you still need to get through Clemson.

“I think back to in ’21 when you go to the championship game and beat Wake Forest, you beat the reigning champion in Clemson at home and you took care of business,” Narduzzi said. “Whether you’re in the Atlantic or whether you’re in the Coastal division, pretty much you gotta beat Clemson to get there, correct? To me, we did that and won the championship. So to me, that makes it even sweeter.”

Narduzzi clearly respects the Tigers, who  won the conference title in seven of the last eight seasons. The lone winner of the last eight that wasn’t Clemson was Narduzzi and the Panthers.

Updated look at ACC football recruiting rankings for 2024

Here is an early look at how each team in the ACC is doing so far in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

The 2023 recruiting cycle is completed with national signing day in the books and Clemson, along with each team around the country having their 23′ classes solidified and signed.

Clemson has been one of the most consistent teams in the country, recruiting in the Dabo Swinney era. While this should continue, other programs around the ACC are getting back on track as they look to reclaim their former glory. With Name, Image, and Likeness changing the game in ways nobody could have ever imagined just a few years ago, football recruiting has shifted to a sign earlier landscape, making every bit of time count in the process.

Things are ramping up in the 24′ cycle, with ACC schools such as Florida State and Louisville already have five-star recruits committed as the ACC looks to compete with other Power 5 conferences over recruiting supremacy. So, who are the top classes in the ACC so far?

Here is an early look at the ACC football recruiting rankings for 2024 based on 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Badgers offer three-star defensive lineman committed to Pitt

Wisconsin offered Francis Brewu, a three-star class of 2024 defensive tackle from Columbus, Ohio on Thursday.

Wisconsin offered Francis Brewu, a three-star class of 2024 defensive tackle from Columbus, Ohio on Thursday. The 6-foot-2, 270-pound athlete committed to Pittsburgh in March, but considering he’s only a junior at Thomas Worthington High School, he could choose to go elsewhere.

Overall, Brewu now has 19 Division 1 offers, including three from within the Big Ten. With Luke Fickell at the helm, the Badgers have expanded their recruiting scope to be more of a national effort, though the head coach is an Ohio native and could sway the defensive lineman to stay in the Midwest.

To this point, the Badger have gotten three defensive commitments for the class of 2024, reeling in three-star linebackers Landon Gauthier (Green Bay, WI) and Thomas Heiberger (Sioux Falls, SD) as well as three-star safety Kahmir Prescott (Philadelphia, PA).

UCLA blows 14-point lead, then last-minute lead to Pitt in crazy, ridiculous Sun Bowl

Pitt 37, UCLA 35. The Bruins slip on a banana peel in El Paso and prevent the #Pac12 from getting six 10-win teams. The Bruins’ late-season collapse is complete.

Football games do not get any crazier or more absurd than the 2022 Sun Bowl. If you watched it, you won’t soon forget it.

Pittsburgh 37, UCLA 35. It was a mess. It was a trainwreck. It was silly and sloppy and just plain wild. It was a game which was unhinged for a very long time, and only kept getting more ridiculous and absurd as it went along, leading up to the climax, a winning field goal for Pitt with four seconds left into a directional wind. Kicker Ben Sauls was superb all day for Pitt. One could argue he was the best player in the game. He certainly delivered for the Panthers, who stunned a UCLA team which led 28-14 in the third quarter and yet couldn’t bring home a win.

Let’s take notes on what we just saw, with a lot of facts and figures plus some game details which have to be included for the public record if you didn’t see this game live on television:
