Season series: Heat lead 1-0

The Pistons have lost back-to-back games after falling 113-191 at the Orlando Magic Sunday, failing to cover as 10.5-point underdogs. The Heat got back in the win column with a 126-120 victory over the Utah Jazz Saturday while failing to cover as 9-point home favorites. F Jimmy Butler scored a game-high 37 points on 12-of-19 shooting while 6 Heat players scored in double figures. Miami shot 52.3% from the field in the win.

Pistons at Heat picks and predictions

Prediction

Heat 113, Pistons 99

Moneyline

PASS.

There is no value on the Heat (-650) to beat a Pistons team that is 5-26 on the road this season.

Against the spread

BET HEAT -11.5 (-110).

The Pistons have failed to cover the spread in 5 of their last 8, including back-to-back games overall and 4 of their last 6 as double-digit underdogs. Miami is 9-1 ATS in its last 10 games, including 3-1 ATS in its last 4 at home. Against a struggling Detroit team, expect Miami to dominate Tuesday night.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 217.5 (-115).

The Pistons have hit the Over just once in their last 10 games and have hit the Under in 9 straight. They have scored 105 or fewer points in 3 consecutive games and have not scored more than 111 in 9 straight.

Miami has a 23-37 Over record this season and has hit the Under in 7 of its last 10 games, including 2 of its last 3 at home. It has scored 109 or fewer points in 5 of its last 9 games and has held opponents to 110 or fewer in 9 of its last 10.

Detroit Pistons at Miami Heat odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Detroit Pistons at Miami Heat odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Detroit Pistons and Miami Heat meet Wednesday in each team’s season opener. Tip-off from the Kaseya Center is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Pistons vs. Heat odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Heat won 2-1 last season

Detroit had a relatively quiet offseason as its biggest moves included trading for G/F Joe Harris from the Brooklyn Nets and trading for G Monte Morris from the Washington Wizards. Detroit also added F Ausar Thompson as the 5th overall pick in the 2023 draft.

Miami, to the displeasure of many Heat fans, also had an uneventful offseason after losing in the NBA Finals to the Denver Nuggets. Miami, after missing out on acquiring G Damian Lillard, decided to focus on acquiring depth during the offseason.

Miami signed F/C Thomas Bryant and G Josh Richardson to 2-year deals in the offseason. The Heat also lost 2 solid role-players from their 2023 Finals run in G Gabe Vincent (to the Los Angeles Lakers) and G/F Max Strus (to the Cleveland Cavaliers).

Pistons at Heat picks and predictions

Prediction

Heat 108, Pistons 102

Moneyline

PASS.

I am not convinced on Miami being such a heavy favorite, and Detroit is not worth betting on unless you’re absolutely certain of the Pistons winning as +333 underdogs.

Against the spread

BET PISTONS +8.5 (-105).

Detroit will be returning G Cade Cunningham, who missed the majority of last season after suffering a stress-fracture in his leg, and his return will bring life to this Detroit unit. I have questions about the guard play for Miami, especially on the defensive side of the ball, and I believe exploiting that weakness will be Detroit’s key to keeping this game close.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 219.5 (-110).

Miami has always been a team that prides itself on defense, and that will be no different this season. Miami ranked 2nd in opponent points per game last season, allowing 109.8, and this year should be more of the same. Both of these teams were around the middle of the pack in 3-point makes as a team last year, and that style of play will help this game hit the Under. 2 of last year’s 3 meetings between these squads hit on the Under.

Detroit Pistons at Miami Heat odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Detroit Pistons at Miami Heat odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Detroit Pistons (18-50) head to South Beach Tuesday to play the Miami Heat (45-24) at the FTX Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Pistons vs. Heat odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Detroit has lost three straight games but was 2-1 against the spread (ATS) in those contests with the latest being a 106-102 home loss to the Los Angeles Clippers Sunday as a 3.5-point underdog.

Miami is 4-3 straight up (SU) and 5-2 ATS since March 2, most recently losing at home to the Minnesota Timberwolves 113-104 Saturday as a 4-point favorite.

The Heat are 2-1 SU but 0-3 ATS in their head-to-head series with the Pistons this season and the total is 1-2 Over/Under (O/U) in those games.

Pistons at Heat odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Heat 114, Pistons 98

Money line

PASS.

Miami should win this game with ease but the -1100 price is an obvious no-go. There isn’t a team in professional sports that you should bet as a -1100 ML favorite.

Against the spread

TAKE the HEAT -12.5 (-115) because this is the mother of all trap lines. The Pistons have covered 10 of its last 11 games, six of which were against teams with a winning record.

Detroit is also 4-1-1 ATS in the last six meetings with Miami and 6-0 ATS in the last six games against teams with a winning record. Despite that, -12.5 is the most Miami has been favored over Detroit in their last 11 meetings. Also, a majority of the action is on the Pistons, according to VegasInsider.com.

But Cunningham showed up on the injury report for the Pistons and they score 6.6 fewer points per 100 possessions when he isn’t on the floor, according to CleaningTheGlass.com. Cunningham’s improvement has been the key to Detroit’s recent feistiness.

Given all this, the Pistons aren’t sneaking up on the Heat, who are at full strength and coming off a loss. Miami is 16-6-1 ATS following a loss with a plus-2.0 ATS margin.

It’s a shockingly expensive price, but the HEAT -12.5 (-115) is the right side.

Over/Under

Slight LEAN to the UNDER 214.5 (-115) because the presumed sharp side of the market is backing the Under, hence the more vigorish.

According to Pregame.com, roughly three-fourths of the cash is on the Under whereas more than 85% of the public is on the Over. But oddsmakers have reacted to the money by lowering the O/U down from the 216-point opener.

However, outside of some line-movement analysis, I don’t have much on this total, so I wouldn’t bet it too heavily.

Detroit Pistons at Miami Heat odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Detroit Pistons at Miami Heat odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Detroit Pistons (5-25) travel to FTX Arena Thursday to take on the Miami Heat (19-13). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Pistons vs. Heat odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Heat are coming into this game down their best two players, but they’re one of the deeper teams in the Eastern Conference. Miami has won three of its last four, covering all three wins.

Ironically, their last loss was in Detroit to the Pistons. It has been profitable to bet on the Heat this season as they’re 19-13 ATS. The Pistons, on the hand, have struggled to consistently cover, just 14-16 ATS.

Detroit will be down its two top offensive players as well as a slew of role players, making depth especially crucial. Detroit is 2-13 on the road and has covered 4 of its last 6 games.

Pistons at Heat odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Heat 109, Pistons 99

Money line

PASS.

Regular-season NBA favorites at -850 just don’t have value. Similarly, the Pistons are down their two best offensive playmakers, so I don’t find value in their +550.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the HEAT -11.5 (-105) as the Pistons are going to struggle offensively in this one. Already the worst shooting team in the NBA, the Pistons are down their two best players.

Combine that with the Heat still set to play a backcourt that features Kyle Lowry and Tyler Herro, and I’d take the favorite to win by a relatively large margin.

Miami is 5-4 as home favorites this season. Detroit is 7-8, so the trends barely favor the Heat to cover.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the OVER 207.5 (-112) as a good play.

Grant and Cunningham are the top creators for Detroit, but both are relatively inefficient scorers. I expect more Isaiah Stewart and Saddiq Bey. Killian Hayes should also step up the scoring.

Both Detroit and Miami are .500 or better on the Over, a rarity as the Unders have covered at a higher rate. Miami has big-time shot makers in Herro, Lowry, and Max Strus, a 6-foot-5 shooter that has topped 18 or more points in his last 3 games.

With all the shot-making for Miami, I’d ride the Over.

Pistons at Heat: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Heat 127, Pistons 116

Money line (ML)

The HEAT (-200) could have several key players return to the lineup Saturday and offering plenty of value to beat a lowly Pistons squad. Detroit hasn’t won a road game and three of its last four losses were all by at least 10 points.

Miami had just eight players for both games against the Sixers and nearly pulled the upset in Game 1. F Duncan Robinson had a team-high 22 points last time out.

The Pistons are last in the NBA in field-goal percentage (41.5%) and 25th in 3-point percentage (34.0%). Miami hit on over 46% of its field-goal attempts in both games against Philadelphia.

Even short-handed, the reigning Eastern Conference champs can top the Pistons.

Against the spread (ATS)

Get better value on the HEAT -5.5 (+100) to win by at least 6 points on a modest spread. The past four Pistons’ losses were by margins of 9 or more points.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 217.5 (-105). The Heat put up 134 points in their first game against a much stronger Sixers defense. Detroit is 29th in the Association while allowing opponents to post an effective field-goal percentage of 57.8%.
