Pittsburgh Pirates at Milwaukee Brewers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Pittsburgh Pirates at Milwaukee Brewers odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Pittsburgh Pirates (6-9) and Milwaukee Brewers (8-6) play the finale of a three-game set Sunday at 2:10 p.m. ET at American Family Field. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Pirates vs. Brewers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Chad Kuhl is the projected starting pitcher for the Pirates. He is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA, 2.06 WHIP, 6.8 K/9 and 12.7 BB/9 over 10 2/3 IP through three starts. Kuhl, the team’s Opening Day starter, has failed to last longer than four innings in any of his starts, along with walking at least three batters in each outing.

RHP Freddy Peralta is the projected starting pitcher for the Brewers. He is 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 16.6 K/9 and 6.2 BB/9 through 13 IP across two starts and one relief appearance. Peralta has won each of his past two starts, both against the Chicago Cubs. That includes a quality start Monday when he allowed just one run on two hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts over six innings.

  • Money line: Pirates +170 (bet $100 to win $170) | Brewers -200 (bet $200 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Pirates +1.5 (-110) | Brewers -1.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 8 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Prediction

Brewers 8, Pirates 3

Money line (ML)

The Brewers (-200) will cost you two times your potential return. That’s just a little too expensive for me. For a singular bet, it’s not a big deal, but over the long haul it’s not a winning strategy. PASS.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The BREWERS -1.5 (-110) are a strong play on the run line. Milwaukee fired out to a five-run lead after one inning Saturday, and led 7-0 after two frames. The Brewers didn’t score the rest of the way but never were in doubt of covering the run line in a 7-1 victory.

Milwaukee has covered the run line in each of its past seven victories, so if you like the Brewers to win, make sure to lay the run and a half until further notice.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 8 (-110) is the play against Kuhl, who has just been wildly erratic and walking everyone. The Over has cashed in each of his first three starts, and his being on the bump is driving this Over train.

Over bettors were feeling the sting Saturday, as Milwaukee took a 7-0 lead after two innings with an 8.5 number only to go scoreless the rest of the way. The Pirates helped out with just one run for the bad beat. That won’t be the case Sunday.

The Pittsburgh Pirates (9-21) and Milwaukee Brewers (15-17) meet in a Sunday matinee at 2:10 p.m. ET at Miller Park. We analyze the Pirates-Brewers betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Pirates at Brewers: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Steven Brault vs. RHP Brandon Woodruff

Brault owns a 4.80 ERA through 15 innings.

  • The Pirates port-sider has struggled mightily in past meetings against Milwaukee with 13 walks against 14 strikeouts while allowing an .852 OPS
  • Had a road ERA of 5.16 in 2019.

Woodruff has been terrific through seven starts. The 27-year-old righty has whiffed 41 batters in 36 2/3 innings pitched, logging a 3.19 ERA along the way.

  • Woodruff fanned eight against just one walk in his last outing. He owns a would-be career-best 12.9% swinging-strike rate on the season.
  • The Brewers hurler has been tough on the Pirates in the past with a .574 OPS allowed, .119 ISO allowed and 6-to-1 SO-to-BB ratio.

Moneyline (ML)

The market has beaten the Milwaukee side into submission. So, PASS ON BREWERS -250, but still LAY OFF PIRATES +225.

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on the Brewers to win outright returns a profit of $4.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Milwaukee batters have filed a robust .251/.349/.453 slash line against southpaws this season. Pittsburgh has languished with a low-contact .614 OPS against right-handers. The Pirates’ .577 road OPS ranks last in MLB, and in general Pittsburgh has become a club to fade or pass upon in just about any scenario.

The Brew Crew have scored 16 runs over the first two games of this series and their price on the multi-run victory — BREWERS -1.5 (-121) — is worth taking.

Over/Under (O/U)

The best value on the board for this matchup is OVER 8.5 (-110). The high side is 19-6-3 over Milwaukee’s last 28 games against a sub-.400 foe, 5-1 in the Brewers’ last six games vs. left-handed starters and 6-2-1 in Pittsburgh’s last nine road tilts.

Pittsburgh Pirates at Milwaukee Brewers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s Pittsburgh Pirates at Milwaukee Brewers sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Pittsburgh Pirates (9-19) and Milwaukee Brewers (13-17) begin a four-game set at Miller Park Friday. The first pitch on Jackie Robinson Day is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. ET. We analyze the Pirates-Brewers betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Pirates at Brewers: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Derek Holland vs. RHP Corbin Burnes

Holland: 1-1, 6.17 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 23 K, 9 BB, 23 1/3 IP, 4 starts, one relief appearance

  • On his fourth team since the start of 2017, Holland’s career continues to spiral downhill since his earlier days with the Texas Rangers. He enters Friday with a career-worst 2.7 HR/9.
  • Earned the win last time out while holding these Brewers to a single earned run over five innings in his home park.

Burnes: 0-0, 3.42 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 36 K, 16 BB, 26 1/3 IP, 3 starts, 3 relief appearances

  • Pitched 5-plus innings in each of his last two starts and in one relief appearance earlier this month.
  • Hasn’t factored into a decision, but the Brewers have lost each of the six games in which he appeared.

Prediction

Brewers 7, Pirates 3

Moneyline (ML)

The BREWERS (-200) are convincing favorites for plenty of good reasons, despite losing their last two games against a Cincinnati Reds team much better than their current opponent. The Pirates (+175) just won two in a row against the St. Louis Cardinals but previously had back-to-back losses against the Chicago White Sox.

Burnes gives Milwaukee a sizable advantage in the starting pitching matchup, and the Brewers may have an even greater edge in the bullpen battle. The Brewers rank 10th in baseball with a team OPS of .775 against right-handed pitching. The Pirates are dead-last with a .567 mark against righties.

The Brewers are worth the juice Friday with Burnes in prime position to get his first win of the season.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Brewers to win outright returns a profit of $5.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Hammer the BREWERS -1.5 (+100) at even-money on the run line, via which they’ll need to win by just two or more runs. Milwaukee is 10-20 ATS this season and just 2-4 straight up against the Pirates, but they’re the much better team on offense and come into this one at relatively full health.

They should have no difficulty putting up runs against Holland and a Pirates bullpen with a collective 5.24 ERA in their home park.

Over/Under (O/U)

Expecting Milwaukee to do the bulk of the run-scoring in this one, go with the OVER 9 (-110). Pittsburgh is 13-11-4 against the O/U on the year, and that’s mostly due to the runs they’re giving up.
