Texans CB Gareon Conley passes physical, can participate in training camp

Houston Texans cornerback Gareon Conley has passed his physical and can now participate fully in training camp.

The Houston Texans can now more from their cornerback group.

Gareon Conley passed his physical and was taken off the physically unable to perform list. The former 2017 Oakland Raiders first-round pick was recovering from ankle surgery he underwent in the offseason.

Defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver said Conley was “chomping at the bit” to return to the practice field.

“He is starting to feel better,” Weaver told reporters on Aug. 5. “I know he’s on PUP right now but he’s champing at the bit to get back out there. He’s already coming up to me asking about when we can watch film together so he can know what I’m thinking when I’m making play calls and things of that nature.”

Conley produced 27 tackles and 11 pass breakups in his eight games for the Texans last season, six of which he started.

While the Texans didn’t pick up Conley’s fifth-year option, the club still sees him as a key piece of their 2020 secondary.

Report: Former Seahawk Ziggy Ansah going through physical with 49ers

Former Seattle Seahawks defensive end, Ziggy Ansah, is currently going through a physical and COVID-19 with the San Francisco 49ers.

A former member of the Seattle Seahawks might be staying in the NFC West this season after all. Defensive end Ziggy Ansah is currently going through a physical with the division-rival San Francisco 49ers, accourding to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“This is interesting: Former Seahawks pass-rusher and current free agent Ziggy Ansah is going through a physical and COVID-19 testing with the 49ers, sources say,” Rapoport tweeted on Tuesday. “Nothing is done, but SF gets a first look at a potentially high-end edge talent.”

Ansah spent one season in Seattle and logged just 10 solo tackles, six assists and 2.5 sacks on the year.

Will Dissly’s Achilles rehab successful, passes physical before camp

Seattle Seahawks tight end Will Dissly has passed his physical upon reporting to training camp after tearing his Achilles tendon last season.

The Seattle Seahawks will see the healthy return of one of their most valuable players from a major injury this season. Tight end Will Dissly, who tore his Achilles tendon in Week 6 last year, has now passed his physical and has been cleared to return to the field.

“Will had an incredible offseason,” coach Pete Carroll said via his Zoom press conference on Monday. “He worked out down in Los Angeles. The group he worked out with told me he spent nine months with them – nine months working out on a rigid schedule, and he didn’t miss one minute of one day. They said they’ve never seen anybody do that before.”

Dissly’s Achilles tear marked the second season-ending injury of his short, two-year career. His rookie season was cut short by a torn patellar tendon. And although  Dissly has shown the remarkable ability to recover quickly, the Seahawks will take their time easing Dissly back into the rotation.

Regardless, having the young tight end available once again will be key for Seattle’s offense this season.

Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is USA TODAY’s top available free agent

Former Seattle Seahawks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is USA TODAY’s top available free agent remaining after the first week of deals.

Some of the top unrestricted free agents are already off the board after the first week of the NFL’s wheeling and dealing, however, one name remains at the top of the list of the bests players yet to come to terms on a new deal – (former) Seahawks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney,.

Nate Davis of USA TODAY Sports ranks Clowney the league’s top available free agent.

“The No. 1 pick of the 2014 draft remains the clear-cut top talent without an employer, ” Davis writes. “According to multiple reports, Clowney, 27, has not received the windfall proposal he’d hoped for … despite an environment where 49ers DL Arik Armstead got a five-year, $85 million deal and his former teammate, DeForest Buckner, reeled in a four-year, $84 million extension after getting traded to the Colts.”

Clowney could very well be considering whether or not to re-sign with Seattle but could also opt to wait things out until club facilities open back up and he’s able to travel safely for physicals and visits.

Until he and his camp make a decision, he’ll stay on top as the best free agent still available.

Has the market changed for Seahawks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney?

The market for the Seattle Seahawks top free agent, defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, could have changed ahead of the start of the new year.

The NFL’s legal tampering period is in full swing and free agency and the start of the new league year are just hours away. The airways have been eerily silent, however, regarding news of Seattle Seahawks defensive end, Jadeveon Clowney.

Clowney is undoubtedly Seattle’s top unrestricted free agent heading into the 2020 season and many are still wondering if the two sides can work out a deal to keep the defensive end in a Seahawks uniform for years to come.

NFL.com’s Kevin Patra and Mike Garafolo took a deeper look as to why Clowney’s team has yet to reach a satisfactory deal – with the Seahawks or anyone else.

First of all, the market for the position could have changed with the number of teams opting to use the franchise tag this season. Secondly, teams have secured other defensive ends to satisfy their needs.

Most importantly, however, with the coronavirus threat forcing teams to shut down facilities making player physicals difficult to coordinate, teams around the league might be wondering whether Clowney will truly be healthy heading into the season after suffering the core injury last year.

All these factors could provide favorable to Seattle in its quest to keep the pass rusher in the Emerald City.

Seahawks sign former Seattle running back Robert Turbin to the roster

The Seahawks have signed former Seattle running back Robert Turbin to the roster following the injuries to Chris Carson and C.J. Prosise.

The Seahawks could be in for more than one reunion in the running back room this week. Marshawn Lynch, who is in town for a visit with the team, is currently undergoing a physical.

In the meantime, Seattle has signed former Seahawks running back Robert Turbin back to the roster according to a number of sources, including ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Turbin was originally selected by the Seahawks in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL draft and spent three seasons in Seattle.

He will provide much-needed depth alongside rookie Travis Homer . . .  and Lynch, if he is able to reach an agreement in the near future.

Seattle has lost three running backs this season. Rashaad Penny was the first to fall with a torn ACL, and Chris Carson and C.J. Prosise suffered season-ending hip and arm injuries, respectively, on Sunday afternoon against the Cardinals.

Although the Seahawks have yet to announce the signing, Turbin posted a photo of himself in Seattle’s locker room on his Instagram account, confirming the move first-hand.
