Phoenix Suns at Charlotte Hornets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Phoenix Suns at Charlotte Hornets odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Phoenix Suns (38-28) take on the Charlotte Hornets (17-49) Friday with tip-off from Spectrum Center set for 7 p.m. ET (NBA TV). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Suns vs. Hornets odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: Suns lead 1-0 after 133-119 home win on Dec. 29

The Suns are on the 2nd game of a back-to-back after the Boston Celtics eclipsed them 127-112 Thursday night. Four Phoenix players had 20-plus points — G Devin Booker (23), G Bradley Beal (22), F Grayson Allen (20) and F Kevin Durant (20) — but they couldn’t contain the freight train from Boston.

The Hornets have won 2 of 3 after putting down the Memphis Grizzlies Wednesday 110-98 to cover as 5.5-point favorites. Charlotte is 5-5 ATS over its last 10 games. F Miles Bridges had 27 points, 6 boards and 6 dimes while going 3-for-7 from downtown. G Vasilije Micic also had a season-high 25 as he has been in double figures for 7 straight games.

Suns at Hornets and predictions

Prediction

Suns 119, Hornets 100

Moneyline

Even on a back-to-back, there’s no way the Suns should drop this game. There’s also no way we’re paying the -500 moneyline.

PASS

Player props weren’t available at press time, likely because Phoenix is a veteran team on the tail end of a back-to-back. If one pops up for Micic at 11 or 12 points, I’d jump on that. He has hit double figures in 7 straight, and he has 12+ points in 6 of those.

Against the spread

There’s a chance this spread comes down a bit if the Suns opt to rest someone in the back-to-back. I wouldn’t want to lay more than the 9 1/2 we’re giving up here, though, so keep that in mind.

The Suns have won 6 straight meetings, and the last 5 were by 10+.

Take the SUNS -9.5 (-115).

Over/Under

The Hornets play no defense, and the total really boils down to how much the Suns want to score. They are just 2-8 O/U over the last 10, and Charlotte is 3-7. I’m going to LEAN OVER 217.5 (-105), but go easy here.

Phoenix Suns at Charlotte Hornets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Phoenix Suns at Charlotte Hornets odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Phoenix Suns (33-29) take on the Charlotte Hornets (20-43) on Wednesday at Spectrum Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Suns vs. Hornets odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Suns covered as 3.5-point road underdogs in Sunday’s 104-101 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Phoenix is 6-4 in its last 10 games and F Kevin Durant is expected to make his debut on Wednesday.

The Hornets beat the Detroit Pistons 117-106 on Monday and covered as 7-point home favorites. Charlotte is amid a 5-game winning streak, but G LaMelo Ball will miss the rest of the season after fracturing his ankle in the win.

The Suns and the Hornets will square off for the second time this season on Wednesday. Phoenix cruised to a 128-97 victory as 7.5-point home favorites and the Over (222.5) connected on Jan. 24.

Suns at Hornets picks and predictions

Prediction

Suns 119, Hornets 104

Moneyline

AVOID.

The Suns (-500) should be able to win with ease on Wednesday, but taking them straight up isn’t advised at the current odds.

Against the spread

Despite it being a massive spread, SUNS -10.5 (-108) is the ideal choice in this matchup. Even though Durant will likely be on a minutes restriction for his debut, he should be a positive addition to an already-talented team.

The Suns are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a loss and they’ve defeated the Hornets by an average of 32 points in the last 3 meetings.

Over/Under

UNDER 228.5 (-115) is the pick in this game as the Hornets will struggle to score without Ball on the floor. The Suns are also 8th in defensive rating this season.

Phoenix is 5-1 to the Under in its last 6 road games while Charlotte is 5-0 to the Under in its last 5 games following a win and 4-0 to the Under in its last 4 games overall.

Suns at Hornets: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Suns 108, Hornets 106

Money line (ML)

The Suns (-250) are a little expensive as a road team on the money line. This battle of first-place teams should be a little closer than the books think, too. AVOID.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The HORNETS +6 (-110) are catching three buckets on their home court and that’s an awful lot of points. The Suns have won 30 games this season, and they have been playing great basketball. While they’re somewhat acclimated to the Eastern Time Zone after kicking off a road trip March 23 in Miami, this is a game which is 10 a.m. local time to them. Don’t think that won’t affect the Suns.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 219.5 (-110) looks good for the same reason Charlotte is an attractive play with the points. The early tip time in the Queen City will likely mean a rather sluggish start before the teams start to get their sea legs. The Under is 4-1 across the past five for the Suns, including 2-1 on the first three games of the road trip. The Under is 4-1 in the past five for the Hornets, and 7-2 across the past nine overall.
