Columbus Crew at Philadelphia Union preview, odds and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Columbus Crew at Philadelphia Union odds and lines, with MLS betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Columbus Crew (4 wins, 2 losses, 2 draws) travel north to take on the Philadelphia Union (4-2-3) Wednesday. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET at Subaru Park in Chester, Pa. Below, we preview the Columbus Crew vs. Philadelphia Union odds and lines, and make our best MLS bets, picks and predictions.

The Crew and Union make up 1 of 12 MLS games Wednesday. There’s no denying it may be one of the better games as the two teams currently rank fourth and third in the Eastern Conference, respectively.

The Crew are coming off a 2-0 win over the Chicago Fire Saturday and have won their last three games. Columbus lost to the New England Revolution and Toronto FC this season, both of which have been road games.

The Union are at home after a 2-2 draw with Atlanta United Saturday. They’re undefeated in their last six matches but are 2-2-1 at home, meaning they’ve actually been better away from Subaru Park.

Prediction

Philadelphia Union 1, Columbus Crew 1

Money line (ML)

“LEAN” to the DRAW (+250) as the Crew have been playing well lately and the Union haven’t been better in front of their home fans this year. Also, these two teams play to the other’s strength.

The Union and Crew are at the top of the standings because they don’t give up many goals. In 17 combined games, they’ve given up 13 goals and have scored 20.

Neither team has a dynamic scorer, either. They win on the defensive end.

With Columbus coming off an impressive performance over Chicago and Philadelphia tying a game it really should’ve won, all season these two have seemed among the best in the East. This high-level battle could easily result in a tie.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET the UNDER 2.5 (-125) because, as we noted, the defenses are the strength for both teams. Neither the Union nor the Crew have a player that’s put the ball in the back of the net more than 3 times.

Philadelphia has given up 7 goals, the third-fewest in the East while Columbus is tied with Orlando for the fewest at 6.

This could be a defensive battle, and for that reason, the UNDER 2.5 (-125) is the best value available.

Philadelphia Union at Atlanta United FC preview, odds and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Philadelphia Union at Atlanta United FC odds and lines, with MLS betting picks, tips and best bets.

In the lone Sunday MLS game, the Philadelphia Union (4 wins, 2 losses, 2 draws) travel south to take on Atlanta United FC (2-1-4) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. ET. Below, we preview the Philadelphia Union vs. Atlanta United FC odds and lines, and make our best MLS bets, picks and predictions.

Both teams will be taking the pitch for the first time since the international break. It was an interesting few weeks prior to that break for Atlanta United FC. It’s riding a four-game unbeaten streak but won just one of those.

Prior to kicking off that hot streak, United tied Philadelphia 1-1 in the second leg of the CONCACAF quarterfinals, but they lost 4-1 on aggregates after a brutal first matchup.

The two teams know each other well. That said, Philadelphia has had the better season so far and sits third in the Eastern Conference. The Union have won three straight games and four of their last five.

  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: -115 | U: -115)

Prediction

Philadelphia Union 1, Atlanta United FC 1

Money line (ML)

“LEAN” to UNION (+210) because they’ve been one of the best teams in the East this season, and they handled business against Atlanta twice in CONCACAF play.

The best play is PHILADELPHIA OR TIE (-175), although there isn’t great value anywhere on the money line.

That said, the Union are tied for the most clean sheets and are second in save percentage. Their backline gets the job done.

Twenty-eight-year-old F Kacper Przybylko has played well, and with MF Alejandro Bedoya in the mix as well, the talent is there for the Union.

Taking Philadelphia outright is tough, as Atlanta has a 1-1 tie against the Seattle Sounders, the best team in the West. Having just 1 loss, United has been a tough team to beat.

However, Atlanta hasn’t been the same team since superstar F Josef Martínez tore his ACL to kick off the 2020 season. For that, I’d “LEAN” to the Union but may ultimately Pass on the money line as there’s a much better bet on the Over/Under.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET the UNDER 2.5 (-115). While both of these teams can score, neither are electric in the final third. The Union have given up the second-fewest goals in MLS.

Scoring just 9 goals in eight games yet winning four of those outings, Philadelphia has gotten it done in low-scoring games. Atlanta has 9 goals in seven games and isn’t the scoring machine it used to be.

It will be an interesting game as the Union are fourth in interceptions but Atlanta is first in passing percentage. Despite the precision in their passing, the Under is still the bet as neither club has scored consistently this season.

Prediction

Philadelphia Union 2, New England Revolution 1

Money line (ML)

PHILADELPHIA (+100) is a modest favorite against New England (+250). The Union topped the Revs 2-0 in the final game of the regular season on Nov. 8, and they come in a well-rested bunch. New England, on the other hand, had a difficult 2-1, play-in victory over the Montreal Impact Friday at Gillette Stadium.

The Union are 10-2-2 across their past 14 matches, and three of those wins came against the Revs: A 2-1 win in Philly Sept. 13, a 2-1 in Foxborough Oct. 20 and the season finale mentioned above. It’s hard to imagine Philly falling to New England here after such recent domination, with the Union outscoring the Revs 7-2 in the past five meetings, going 4-0-1.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 2.5 (-162) is the play in this first-round battle. New England saw a total of three goals in its play-in match. Since Oct. 11, the Revs have seen 26 goals over the past eight matches, or 3.3 goals per outing.

Two of the previous three matches between these two clubs hit the Over 2.5. This one will be no different.
