Because of the uncertainty about Embiid’s knee, and now Maxey was a late addition to the injury report due to illness, I’m siding with the Knicks. I think they’re far too expensive, though.

Instead, I’m going with MITCHELL ROBINSON OVER 7.5 REBOUNDS. He had 8 points and 12 boards in 30 minutes in Game 1, and his size is hindering Embiid’s ability to get to the basket on a balky knee.

Against the spread

The Sixers are catching too many points here. They beat the Knicks at MSG without Maxey or Embiid March 10. They’re also 8-2 ATS over the last 10 games.

Take the 76ERS +5.5 (-105).

Over/Under

The Sixers are 7-3 O/U in their last 10, and the Knicks are 9-1. These teams cashed an Over 208.5 in Game 1, and they should smash an OVER 205.5 (-105) that the market has overcorrected itself on.

The 76ers have better stars and are heating up at the right time. At (-135), I would still pass on their moneyline value. Considering the Knicks are 8-9 straight up at home, I would pass on playing them to win despite being underdogs.

Against the spread

Philadelphia has been red hot, and C Joel Embiid has proven that it doesn’t matter who you put on him. He is still going to be productive.

Even though C Mitchell Robinson is a solid option, Embiid has been playing at a high enough level to comfortably back Philadelphia. The 76ers are 7-0 straight up and 6-1 ATS in their last 7. G James Harden is also coming off a career-high 21-assist game.

Simply put, it is easier to trust the combination of Harden and Embiid than G Jalen Brunson and F Julius Randle, especially with terrific on-ball defender G De’Anthony Melton starting for the Sixers.

The Knicks whacky home struggles are another reason to err on the side of caution. They are 6-9-2 ATS at home. Considering that and the upside of Harden and Embiid, back the 76ERS -2.5 (-105).

Led by last season’s top-3 MVP candidate, C Joel Embiid, the Sixers have rallied behind the chaos that missing PG Ben Simmons has created. Mainly, it’s been SG Seth Curry that’s taken his game to the next level.

Former MVP PG Derrick Rose and the New York Knicks will be ready for Curry and Embiid.

With All-Star F Julius Randle leading the beloved Knicks, they’re coming off a discouraging road loss to the Magic after beating them the game before by 25.

They also have an overtime win over the Celtics. Both teams will look to right their last wrong in this game.

BET on the KNICKS (-125) as a solid gamble.

At home, under the bright lights of Madison Square Garden, the surging Knicks will take on the Sixers. The health of both rosters should matter greatly. Along those lines, the Sixers play mainly through Embiid and SF Tobias Harris.

Given that the Knicks are among the better defensive teams and finally having C Mitchell Robinson playing consistent minutes, they should be able to tame the dynamic duo. This is a game where the Sixers really could use Ben Simmons defensively.

With PG Derrick Rose thriving in New York and SG Evan Fournier staying hot after a terrific Olympics, the Knicks have the playmaking to go toe-to-toe with Philly.

With home-court advantage helping a bit, they should be the more lethal side. They only lost to the Magic because Fournier, Randle and RJ Barrett combined to go 5-for-24 from deep. That likely won’t repeat itself.

One of the best spread teams from a year ago, with such a margin threat, I’d take the odds on the money line instead.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the KNICKS -1.5 (-112) for the same reason as above. I’d rather take the money line over the points as all things indicate this being a highly competitive game.

In the national spotlight, expect a close one, and if not, there should be hope the Knicks, at home, get the job done. The Sixers are short-handed, and that should bode well for New York.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the UNDER 216.5 (-110) as it had a tad bit of juice. The Knicks haven’t been consistent enough to bank on them putting up over 110.

As for the Sixers, with a team depending heavily on Curry and PG Tyrese Maxey‘s shooting, I’d expect them to struggle unless Embiid can get going early.

Without Simmons, the Sixers rank dead last in Pace while the Knicks were at the bottom of the league last season, showing both teams’ reliance on half-court offense.

Because of that, I’d go for the Under in this one.

PASS even though I’ll typically sprinkle some cash on an underdog’s money line when I’m betting it plus points. Not to be overly reactionary, but these NBA games have been very lopsided—the five Christmas games had an average final margin of 23.2 points. So, if you like an underdog, there could be something to just taking the money line since these contests have sputtered on the losing sides.

Against the spread (ATS)

I’ll just ignore what I wrote in the previous section and take KNICKS +8.5 (-115) for 1 unit. Philadelphia struggled to cover vs. New York last season, going 4-0 straight-up but only covering once.

C Joel Embiid averaged 25.0 points and 14.5 rebounds in the two games he played against the Knicks last season but only shot 36.8% from the field and 9.1% from deep. If Knicks C Mitchell Robinson can clog the middle and force Embiid to settle for contested jumpers, New York can steal this game.

Plus, while home-court advantages are still being calculated by the gambling community, the 76ers were well-known for poor play on the road. Since 2018, Philadelphia is just 13-24-1 ATS as an away favorite and its struggles away from home last season were well documented (9-23-2 ATS in road games last season).

We have a fade the market spot as close to 90% of the money is on the 76ers, which has pushed this line from Philadelphia laying 6 points in the opening line to the current price, according to Pregame.com.

Over/Under (O/U)

Let’s source market action again with the 76ers-Knicks total. 87% of the money wagered is on the Under but 54% of the bets placed are on the Over. The money column of betting market reports is generally the sharp side, while the percentage of tickets is the public money.

However, I am waiting to see if the shooting across the league improves in crowd-less arenas. Philadelphia gave up the most 3-point attempts last season and the Knicks shot 42.9% from deep against the Pacers on Dec. 23.

Officially, I “lean” UNDER 216.5 (-110) for a quarter-unit.
