Phoenix won its second straight game Monday by holding on to beat the Bulls 127-124 in Chicago but failed to cover as a 6.5-point road favorite. The Suns are 6-1 straight up (SU) and 4-3 against the spread (ATS) over the last two weeks.

Philly snapped its two-game losing skid Sunday by also beating the Bulls 119-108 in Chicago as a 4-point road favorite. The Sixers are 5-2 SU and 3-4 ATS in the last 14 days.

The Suns were 2-0 SU and 1-0-1 ATS in their two games with the Sixers last season and the Over has cashed in seven straight Phoenix-Philadelphia meetings.

“LEAN” to the SUNS (+100) for a one-third unit because we are getting late to the party on Phoenix’s money line (ML) and the Under is my favorite wager in this game.

The Suns-76ers game opened with Phoenix as a 2.5-point underdog but the sharps hammered the Suns early, lowering their ML payout and spread.

However, the difference in this game will be Suns PG Chris Paul outmaneuvering his former head coach and current Sixers head coach, Doc Rivers, down the stretch.

The Suns are fourth in defensive rating and the Sixers struggle against tough defenses. Philly is 5-7 SU versus top-10 defenses with a minus-2.2 adjusted net rating and a minus-2.3 ATS margin, according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG).

Plus the Suns perform better against quality competition: Phoenix is 10-5 SU versus teams in the top-10 of efficiency differential with a plus-3.4 adjusted net rating (ranked second), per CTG.

The Sixers are 5-8 SU versus top-10 teams with a minus-6.1 adjusted net rating (ranked 19th) and a minus-4.8 ATS margin (ranked 25th). Phoenix is 6-4 ATS on the road versus teams above-.500 and Philly is 4-7 ATS at home versus teams above-.500.

I’d argue all the ATS trends apply since this Suns-76ers meeting is priced as a coin-flip.

Against the spread

PASS.

The Suns +1.5 (-115) doesn’t provide much insurance in case they lose so we might as well stick with Phoenix’s ML.

Over/Under

BET the UNDER 217.5 (-112) for 1 unit for a bunch of trendy reasons and because this is a Pros vs. Joe’s game in the betting market.

Phoenix is 10-16 O/U on the road (minus-3.7 total margin), 3-4 O/U on the second of a back-to-back (minus-2.4 total margin), 7-8 O/U when playing with a rest disadvantage (minus-5.0 total margin), 9-11 O/U versus teams above-.500 and 1-8-1 O/U in the last 10 games as an underdog.

Philly is 9-16 O/U at home, 5-6 O/U when playing with a rest advantage, 8-17 O/U versus teams above-.500 and 1-4 O/U in the last five games as a favorite.

Nearly two-thirds of the bets placed are on the Over but roughly 90% of the cash is on the Under according to pregame.com. It’s typically profitable in sports betting to follow the money when it’s counter to the public.

The UNDER 217.5 (-112) is my favorite wager in this game.

Chicago has won three of its past four games including 122-115 at the Indiana Pacers in its last outing, easily covering as a 1.5-point road favorite. The Bulls are 5-3 SU and 4-3-1 ATS in the last 14 days.

The Sixers are 2-0 SU and ATS versus the Bulls this season and the total is 1-1 Over/Under (O/U) in those meetings.

The Bulls have been atrocious against strong defenses and Philly is ninth in adjusted defensive rating over the past two weeks, according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG).

Chicago is 4-11 SU versus top-10 defenses with a minus-9.3 adjusted net rating (ranked 25th) and a minus-5.5 ATS margin (ranked 28th), per CTG.

The Bulls also only put up 101.5 points per game (PPG) in their first two meetings with the Sixers despite that they average 111.7 PPG. This was a Bulls team playing with their three current or former All-Stars and Ball.

Philly just has Chicago’s number in their recent head-to-head history. The Sixers have won nine straight versus the Bulls (8-1 ATS) and Philly big Joel Embiid has never lost to Chicago.

Embiid is averaging 26.8 points on 62.4% true shooting (.541/.379/.732) with 11.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists and a plus-20 net rating in nine career games against the Bulls.

The Sixers were also without forwards Thybulle, Danny Green and Tobias Harris in Philly’s Nov. 6th 114-105 victory over the Bulls in Chicago.

Against the spread

Philly’s money line (ML) is only 28 cents on the dollar pricier than the 76ers -2.5 (-107) so let’s just pay the extra vig. However, if Philly’s ML goes north of -150 then I’d just lay the points with the Sixers.

Over/Under

Slight “LEAN” to the OVER 219.5 (-108) for a small wager, if at all, because Philly’s ML is my favorite wager in this contest.

Nine of the last 12 Sixers-Bulls meetings have gone Over the total and Chicago has a bottom-five defensive rating over the last two weeks.

The Sixers are 8-5-1 O/U as a road favorite and the Bulls are 14-10-1 O/U at home, but Philly has been playing good defense recently and the Sixers are 1-4 O/U in their last five games.

Philly had a 5-game winning streak snapped Tuesday in a 106-103 upset at home versus the Washington Wizards as a 9.5-point favorite. The Sixers are 5-2 straight up (SU) but just 3-4 against the spread (ATS) over their last two weeks.

Dallas lost back-to-back games at the Orlando Magic (110-108 Sunday) and to the Oklahoma City Thunder (120-114 in overtime Wednesday). The Mavs are 3-3 SU/ATS since Jan. 23.

Money line

PASS with a heavy “lean” toward the 76ers (+100) only because I prefer Philly getting 1.5 points. Obviously, I don’t hate betting the Sixers outright, I just always take the points as a rule.

Against the spread

BET 76ERS +1.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

Both teams run a lot of half-court offense, but Philly has better offensive and defensive points per play in half-court sets, according to CleaningTheGlass.com.

Both teams occupy the same space on the floor, but the Sixers are far more efficient. Each attempts a top-10 volume of mid-range field goals, but Philly has the best defensive field-goal percentage versus mid-range shots.

On top of that, Dallas failed to score 100 points in both 76ers-Mavericks meetings last season and Philly has done a terrific job defending Dallas PG Luka Doncic throughout his career.

In four career games against the Sixers, Luka is averaging 21.0 points on just 51.7% true shooting (.375/.292/.744) with a minus-7 net rating. In fact, Philly is 3-0 SU versus Dallas in meetings between its big in C Joel Embiid and Doncic.

Plus, this is a better spot for the Sixers, who are an NBA-best 9-4 ATS as road underdogs with a plus-3.3 ATS margin.

Finally, since the oddsmakers are projecting a single-possession affair, this would be a game to fade Dallas, which is 9-14 SU in “clutch” situations with the worst net rating in the NBA (minus-34.5). “Clutch” is defined by a game within a 5-point margin with five minutes remaining.

BET 76ERS +1.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under

LEAN to the UNDER 210.5 (-115) since there’s notable “reverse line movement” heading south of the total and a couple of location-based O/U trends for each team.

According to Pregame.com and the Yahoo! Sports app, a vast majority of the action is on the Over, but the total has been lowered from the 212.5-point opening number.

Lastly, the Sixers are 3-10 O/U as road underdogs with a minus-7.9 total margin, and the Mavs are 4-13-1 O/U as home favorites with a minus-3.6 total margin.

Philly is also the winner of four consecutive games, but the Sixers squeaked past the Kings, 103-101, Saturday as 10.5-point home favorites in their last outing. The 76ers are 7-3 SU and 5-5 ATS over their last 10 games as well.

A Ja Morant-less Grizzlies squad hammered a Joel Embiid-less Sixers 126-91 in their first meeting this season, Dec. 13. Memphis has won and covered three straight in the head-to-head series with Philly.

SPRINKLE on the GRIZZLIES (+133) with the plan of hitting Memphis’ spread harder. The Grizzlies have two strength-on-weakness edges over the Sixers on the glass and in transition.

For instance, Memphis has the highest offensive rebounding rate in the NBA, which results in the Grizzlies averaging the most second-chance points per game (PPG). Whereas Philly is 22nd in defensive rebounding rate and 18th in second-chance PPG allowed.

On top of that, the Grizzlies have an epic mismatch over the Sixers in transition. Memphis plays the second-highest frequency of transition offense and scores the MOST fast-break PPG. Philly is 28th in transition defensive efficiency and 29th in fast-break PPG allowed.

Again, just SPRINKLE on the GRIZZLIES (+133) because Memphis’ spread is the sharper play.

Against the spread

Definitely BET the GRIZZLIES +3.5 (-108) heavier than or instead of their money line (ML). This is a much better spot for Memphis because Philly struggles versus teams in the top 10 of efficiency differential.

According to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG), Philly is 4-7 SU versus top-10 teams with a minus-7.3 adjusted net rating (ranked 22nd) and a minus-5.5 ATS margin (ranked 26th).

Also, the Sixers are 9-13 ATS versus teams with a winning record (3-7 ATS at home) and the Grizzlies are 13-8 ATS versus winning teams (7-3 ATS on the road).

Furthermore, Memphis is seventh in adjusted offensive rating and Philly is just 8-9 SU versus top-10 offenses with a minus-2.7 adjusted net rating and minus-4.5 ATS margin (ranked 29th), per CTG.

For the record, the GRIZZLIES +3.5 (-108) is my favorite wager in this game.

Over/Under

PASS ON THE TOTAL.

On one hand, Memphis’s offense should get a lot of easy second-chance and fast-break points. On the other hand, both teams rank 10th or better in defensive rating and Philly plays the fourth-slowest pace.

The bottom line is I don’t have a strong enough grasp on the total for Grizzlies-76ers and prefer to stick with the Memphis sides.
