On this day: Stevens, Olynyk, Pressey, Johnson, Langford debut; Rondo 24 asts

On this day, Boston coach Brad Stevens and Celtics Joe Johnson, Kelly Olynyk, Phil Pressey, Jared Sullinger, and Romeo Langford debuted for the team, while Rajon Rondo dropped 24 assists.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, former Celtics head coach and current Boston President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens coached his first regular-season game in that role after being hired away from the Butler Bulldogs earlier in the year to head to the Celtics to accept his first NBA job.

The tilt was unfortunately a loss to the Toronto Raptors to start the Stevens era with the franchise, though at least a close one to the tune of 93-87. Stevens’ best performing players were forward Jeff Green with 25 points and 5 rebounds, big man Brandon Bass with 17 points.

The game wasn’t just Stevens’ first with the Celtics.

Every player in Philadelphia 76ers history who has worn No. 26

Here is a list of the nine players in the history of the Philadelphia 76ers who have worn the No. 26 uniform.

It’s summertime in the NBA, so it’s time to learn some history. The Philadelphia 76ers are one of the older franchises in the NBA. Their history dates to the 1949-50 season.

With that longevity, the team has had hundreds of players come through the City of Brotherly Love. Sixers Wire looks at the No. 26, which has been worn by nine of those players in the history of the franchise.

This running series will go through all of the uniform numbers worn in franchise history. The previous edition of this series was a list compiling the only player who has worn the No. 27.

Here is the list of the nine players who have worn No. 26 in Sixers history:

Former Celtics point guard Phil Pressey to retire as player, become assistant coach at alma mater Missouri

Pressey played for Boston from 2013 to 2015.

Phil Pressey might be hanging up his jersey, but he isn’t leaving the game. The former Boston Celtics point guard announced his retirement as a player this week, but it came coupled with an announcement that he’ll be making the leap to the other side of the clipboard.

“While I love this game playing-wise, I’m happy to change my perspective and get into coaching. My alma mater (Missouri) is a good starting point,” tweeted the Celtics alumnus, signed by Boston after going unselected in the 2013 NBA draft. “Basketball has given me so much, and now it’s my turn to do the same.”

“It’s my turn to show them what I did wrong for them to improve on,” he explained. “That’s the thing I am most excited about to be able to give back.”

Pressey played in 125 games over two seasons for Boston between 2013 and 2015, averaging 3.1 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game over that stretch.

On this day: Anderson, Potapenko dealt; Pressey inked; Archibald cut

On this day, the Boston Celtics traded Kenny Anderson, Vitaly Potapenko, and Joseph Forte, signed Phil Pressey and waived Nate Archibald.

On this day in 2002, the Boston Celtics traded point guard Kenny Anderson with shooting guard Joseph Forte and big man Vitaly Potapenko to the Seattle SuperSonics for power forward Vin Baker and combo guard Shammond Williams.

Anderson had himself been dealt to the Celtics in 1998 from the Toronto Raptors with Popeye Jones and Žan Tabak for Chauncey Billups, Dee Brown, Roy Rogers and John Thomas, and had become an important part of the team in the interim.

Boston even made it as far as the 2002 Eastern Conference Finals with Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker during the Queens’ native’s tenure with the team.

Anderson averaged 11.3 points, 3 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game while with the Celtics.
