This is the first Mexico Open on the PGA Tour schedule. The Vallarta course, designed by Greg Norman, opened in 2015 and now features 106 bunkers.

The pre-tournament favorite team of Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa (+700 before the opening round and now at +50000) is tied for 28th at 16-under.
