Gerald McCoy was trying hard to continue his career this season with the Raiders after injuries knocked him out last season. Those hopes took a hit when he was injured in the team’s season opener.

McCoy was carted off the field with what ultimately was revealed to be a ruptured quad which very likely ended his comeback season as soon as it began.

Today, McCoy got some additional bad news on top of that. He has been suspended for six games without pay for violating the league policy on performance enhancing drugs.

McCoy put out a statement apologizing for his actions, though he says he didn’t realize he had taken a banned substance.

This suspension will be served starting immediately, which means the only real difference here is he will not be paid for the next six weeks while he recovers from his injury.

McCoy will be 34 in January. Whether he was going to be able to continue his career was already in doubt. We may have seen the last of McCoy in an NFL uniform, let alone a Raiders uniform.

Ex-Seahawk Josh Gordon hopes to return to NFL: ‘There’s no quit in me’

Former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Josh Gordon is hoping for a return to the NFL despite his indefinite suspension for PEDs.

Former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Josh Gordon hasn’t given up on his NFL dreams just yet. Gordon is hopeful for a return, despite his indefinite suspension for violating the league’s policies on substance abuse and performance-enhancing drugs.

“There’s no quit in me, at least I’m thankful for that, and knowing how to get back on track has been my strong suit,” Gordon told ESPN’s the Adam Schefter Podcast on Tuesday. “What has been deemed once my weakness I can credit for helping me move forward in life.”

Gordon, who was released by the Seahawks ahead of the start of the new league year so he could join the Fan Controlled Football league, has remained in Washington state and has been training in Bellevue.

“Anybody can be really good at the game, but you don’t necessarily want to be seen as an (expletive), pardon my language, off the field,” Gordon explained. “So for me I try to keep it real so what you see and what you hear is as honest as it gets. Not to say I’m the most honest person, but I learned at a certain point in time I kind of got to cut out a lotta B.S. in my life.

“So you’re getting a guy that’s focused, at this age, this late in my career, most importantly you’re getting a great wide receiver.”

Seahawks ‘very open’ to a Josh Gordon return if he’s reinstated by NFL

Coach Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks ‘very open’ to a Josh Gordon return if he’s reinstated by NFL this season.

The Seattle Seahawks were able to utilize wide receiver Josh Gordon last season for just five games before he was ultimately suspended indefinitely by the NFL for violations of the league’s performance-enhancing drug and substance-abuse policies.

Gordon has since appealed the decision is hoping to be reinstated in time to see some action this year, hopefully before the start of the season. The wide receiver has indicated he would be interested in returning to Seattle and it seems the Seahawks feel similarly.

“Josh did a really good job with us last year, he fit in really well,” coach Pete Carroll said during his Zoom press conference on Monday. “He was part of this team, by the way we opened and embraced his coming to us, but also by the way he attacked it. So we are very open to that thought and we’ll see what happens.

“I don’t know, I can’t tell you what’s going to happen on that.”

So for now, both Carroll and Gordon will be waiting on the results of his appeal.
