Penn State at Michigan odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Penn State at Michigan odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Penn State Nittany Lions (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) visit the Michigan Wolverines (6-0, 3-0) in a major top-10 clash Saturday afternoon. Kickoff from Michigan Stadium is at noon ET (FOX). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Penn State vs. Michigan odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Penn State is coming into this game after a bye week that allowed players to rest and get fully healthy for this big game. It also gave the coaching staff time to game plan for a strong Michigan team. Penn State beat Northwestern 17-7 in its last game, but many fans were unsettled by the amount of turnovers (5) and penalties (7) that Penn State committed.

Michigan is a strong favorite in its 4th straight game vs. a Big Ten opponent. The Wolverines are led by RB Blake Corum, who has 11 rushing TDs and is averaging 122.5 yards per game. QB J.J. McCarthy, has completed 78.3 percent of his passes (94-of-120) with 9 TDs and 1 INT.

Michigan is No. 4 and Penn State No. 10 in the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Penn State at Michigan picks and predictions

Prediction

Penn State 28, Michigan 25

Moneyline

AVOID

The moneyline here is too big a risk for me to advise you to bet one way or the other. While Michigan is favored heavily, I believe Penn State will actually come away with the win. With this being a big-time conference game anything could happen and Michigan is simply too big of a favorite to risk your money on them in this bet.

Against the spread

LEAN PENN STATE +6.5 (-102)

Whether Penn State wins or not doesn’t matter for this bet because either way I see it being your safest bet. Neither team will be able to win this game by more than a touchdown. It should be close the whole way through and it will likley come down to whichever team makes a mistake 1st.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 52.5 (-107)

Both these teams have very strong offenses and very strong defenses which makes this a hard call. With both schools having talented running backs and quarterbacks who aren’t liabilities, I lean with a higher-scoring outcome  because I don’t see either defense being able to hold the other team’s offense down for the whole game. Corum and Penn State RB Nick Singleton will both have to play well for this game to beat the over.

Penn State at Michigan odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Penn State Nittany Lions at Michigan Wolverines sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Penn State Nittany Lions (3-1) visit the Michigan Wolverines (5-0) Sunday in a Big Ten opener for both teams. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. ET at Crisler Center in Ann Arbor. Below, we analyze the Penn State-Michigan college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

  • Money line: Penn State +220 (bet $100 to win $220) | Michigan -275 (bet $275 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Penn State +6.5 (-115) | Michigan -6.5 (-105)
  • Over/Under: 151.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Penn State at Michigan: Three things to know

  1. Penn State claimed an impressive 75-55 victory at No. 15 Virginia Tech Tuesday in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The Nittany Lions, who were 5.5-point underdogs, jumped out to a 42-23 halftime lead and were never threatened in the second half. G Izaiah Brockington finished with a career-high 24 points in the win as Penn State bounced back from a heartbreaking 98-92 overtime loss at home to Seton Hall last Sunday.
  2. Michigan – the first team listed in “Others Receiving Votes” in the USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll – is coming off a 91-71 home victory over Toledo Wednesday. Freshman C Hunter Dickinson scored a game-high 18 points on 8-for-11 shooting off the bench as the Wolverines covered as 14.5-point favorites. Dickinson also had game-highs in rebounds (7) and blocks (4). Unfortunately for Michigan, starting senior F Austin Davis (6.0 PPG, 3.6 RPG), who had 12 points in the win, is out indefinitely with a foot injury.
  3. Michigan is 8-2 in its last 10 games vs. Penn State, but PSU took the last two matchups. The Nittany Lions claimed a 72-63 victory last season in Ann Arbor, and upset the then-No. 6 Wolverines 75-69 at home in 2018, snapping an eight-game skid in the series.

Penn State at Michigan: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Michigan 67, Penn State 64

Money line (ML)

At +220, the Nittany Lions are tempting. They proved they can win on the road (See Va. Tech), but I’m going to PASS and bet the spread. The Wolverines’ -275 price is too high and not worth the risk.

Against the spread (ATS)

PENN STATE +6.5 (-115) is the play here. The Wolverines are 4-1 ATS, but this will be their toughest test. The Lions, 2-2 ATS, might come up short, but they should keep the outcome within 6 points.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 151.5 (-110) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1.5 times your usual wager. Penn State features a stingy defense, which is allowing 63.8 PPG. Michigan averages 75.3 PPG on the offensive end, but again, it hasn’t faced a tough defense yet this season.

Penn State at Michigan: Betting odds, spread and lines

  • Over/Under: 58.5 (O: -106 | U: -115)

Penn State at Michigan: Three things to know

  1. Penn State has turned the ball over 13 times this season and has multiple in all but one game this season.

Penn State at Michigan: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Michigan 33, Penn State 25

Money line (ML)

The Nittany Lions are 0-5 for the first time in their history and are struggling. Michigan will score points but give them up. The problem is Penn State isn’t scoring much, putting up only 24.6 PPG. Take MICHIGAN -115.

Against the spread (ATS)

This is tough because Penn State hasn’t covered the spread in any game this season and Michigan has only covered once. The spread makes it almost a true toss-up. Being that we expect Michigan to win outright, it is going to be nearly impossible to win but not cover. Take MICHIGAN -1.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

Penn State is 2-2-1 O/U this season, while Michigan is 4-1 O/U. The total for this one (58.5) is high. Michigan will not only have to score a lot but Penn State, too, which has not been in the cards this season. Take UNDER 58.5 (-115).
