New Orleans Pelicans at Houston Rockets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s New Orleans Pelicans at Houston Rockets odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Orleans Pelicans (33-36) and Houston Rockets (17-52) meet Friday at Toyota Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Pelicans vs. Rockets odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Pelicans failed to cover the spread as 2-point home favorites Tuesday in a 123-108 loss vs. the Los Angeles Lakers. New Orleans was not covering at any point during the game and has alternated wins and losses over its last 5 contests.

The Rockets covered as 2.5-point home underdogs Wednesday in a 114-110 win vs. the Lakers. Houston was covering for the entire game and led by as many as 18 points in the 2nd quarter.

The Pelicans lead this season’s series 2-0 with the Under hitting in both meetings. New Orleans covered as a 7-point home favorite 119-108 as the Under (228) cashed in the most recent meeting Jan. 4.

Pelicans at Rockets picks and predictions

Prediction

Pelicans 115, Rockets 105

Moneyline

PASS.

New Orleans (-210) should bounce back after losing last time out, but there is no need to risk more than twice your potential profit on the moneyline when the Pelicans should win by margin. Bet the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

BET PELICANS -5.5 (-108).

New Orleans has dominated Houston this season and should continue to do so Friday. The Pelicans are 5-0 ATS vs. Houston in their last 5 meetings and 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 games against teams with a win percentage below .400.

The Rockets are coming off back-to-back impressive wins, but are still 8-20-1 ATS in their last 29 games after scoring 100 or more points in their previous contest.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 227.5 (-108).

The Under has hit in 7 of New Orleans’ last 8 road games and is 4-1 in the Pelicans’ last 5 after failing to cover in their previous contest.

The Under is 8-3 in Houston’s last 11 games after a win and is 3-1-1 in the last 5 meetings between these teams. Friday’s matchup should look very similar to the low-scoring meetings earlier this season.

New Orleans Pelicans at Houston Rockets odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s New Orleans Pelicans at Houston Rockets odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Orleans Pelicans (20-32) wrap up a four-game road trip Sunday with the first of two straight games against the Houston Rockets (15-37). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET at Toyota Center. Below, we look at the Pelicans vs. Rockets odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Pelicans are 2-1 on their road trip and have picked up wins in their last two games, beating the Detroit Pistons 111-101 Tuesday and the Denver Nuggets 113-105 Friday. They had previously lost four straight outings but have split their last 12 games overall.

The Rockets are coming off a 131-106 blowout road loss to the San Antonio Spurs Friday. Houston has lost five of its last six games and its eight home wins on the season (8-16) are tied for the second-fewest in the NBA.

Pelicans at Rockets odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Rockets 117, Pelicans 111

Money line

The Rockets beat the Pelicans at home 118-108 Dec. 5 in their first meeting this season. F Brandon Ingram scored 40 for the Pelicans, but G Eric Gordon and C Christian Wood each scored 23 for the Rockets who had six players score 10 or more points.

The Rockets are 8-16 at home and the Pelicans are 9-19 on the road, including two straight road wins.

The Rockets’ 115-104 home win over the Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday snapped an 11-game home losing skid.

The Pelicans aren’t likely to keep up this pace on the road when you look at the entirety of the season and, while Houston is bad at home, they are likely to pick up a win here against a team that struggles away from home and against a team they have already beaten.

I like the value of the money line for Houston here. Take the ROCKETS (+175).

Against the spread

Both teams have covered the spread five times in their last 10 games. The Rockets are 8-16 ATS at home and the Pelicans are 12-16 ATS on the road.

Houston is 3-8 ATS at home against sub-.500 teams and New Orleans is 2-5 ATS on the road against teams under .500.

I am going to stick with the idea that the Rockets win outright since neither team is a clear bet. The money line is the best bet but if you want to hedge with some insurance take the ROCKETS +5.5 (-115).

Over/Under

The Rockets allow the most points in the league at 117.0 points per game. The Pelicans allow 109.4.

Four of the Rockets’ last five games have finished with more than 230 total points, but only one of the last 11 games for the Pelicans has gone over that number.

This projected total is too high.

Take UNDER 230.5 (-107).

New Orleans Pelicans at Houston Rockets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s New Orleans Pelicans at Houston Rockets odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Orleans Pelicans (7-18) travel to Toyota Center Sunday to take on the Houston Rockets (6-16). Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Pelicans vs. Rockets odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

F Brandon Ingram has been on fire, scoring 27 or more points in the Pelicans’ last three games.

New Orleans has won four of its last six. The Pelicans are 11-14 against the spread, marginally worse than the Rockets 10-11-1. Both teams typically enter games as heavy underdogs.

That said, the Rockets, even at home, will be the dogs here. They’re led by C Christian Wood and G Jae’Sean Tate. Crazy enough, they’ve won five straight after a 1-16 start.

Pelicans at Rockets odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Pelicans 114, Rockets 106

Money line

PASS on the money line. I like the Pelicans in this scenario; however, they’ve only played in two one-score games. So, I’d take the points here.

Against the spread

BET on the PELICANS -2.5 (-120) as Ingram will be the best player on the court, and the Pelicans are the better, healthier team. Both teams have oddly been playing very good basketball as of late.

The Rockets have the 20th-worst free throw attempt rate. They foul at a high rate while the Pelicans shoot the third-best rate from the line.

The Pelicans also average the 7th-most defensive rebounds per game, so they should be able to control the boards, a huge key again a team that likes to run like Houston.

The Rockets have the worst turnover rate in the league as well, so the Pelicans should be able to capitalize. This is a good sell-high spot for the Rockets.

I’m buying the Pelicans on the road.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the UNDER 220.5 (-110) as this is just too high. The Rockets are a solid defensive rebounding team, ranking 9th in defensive rebounding rate.

The Pelicans do most of their work on the offensive glass, which could limit the second chances both teams have. Both teams also rank in the bottom 10 in effective field goal rate. There may not be much good shooting.

Couple that with the rebounding aspects, and it’s easy to see why chances may be limited. I’d prefer the Under here, but it’s a tough one to gauge given how oddly hot the Rockets have been.

New Orleans Pelicans at Houston Rockets odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s New Orleans Pelicans at Houston Rockets NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The New Orleans Pelicans (21-27) are in the “Space City” Sunday to play the Houston Rockets (13-35) at Toyota Center. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Pelicans-Rockets odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

New Orleans has lost two straight with PF Zion Williamson, SF Brandon Ingram and PG Lonzo Ball out with injury.

The first loss was to the “tank mode” Orlando Magic 115-110 in overtime as 5-point home favorites, and the second to a Trae Young-less Atlanta Hawks 126-103 at home.

The Pelicans have fallen to 12th in the West 2.5 games behind the Golden State Warriors for the 10-seed.

Speaking of “tank mode”, whether intentional or not, the Rockets should be deep into draft prep because their season is lost.

Houston has lost three in a row, five out of six and 25 out of the last 27 games. Over that stretch, the Rockets have covered just five games.

This is the rubber match of the Pelicans-Rockets regular-season series with each team winning and covering one game, but both were played in New Orleans.

Against the spread (ATS)

“LEAN” to ROCKETS +5.5 (-110) for a half-unit, which would be upgraded to a “like” if we knew Zion was out.

However, don’t sleep on the loss of Hart to the Pelicans’ second unit; Hart bolsters New Orleans’ team rebounding and defense.

Also, the Pelicans aren’t good enough to be laying 5.5 points on the road with all of these injury issues.

Over/Under (O/U)

The first two Pelicans-Rockets meetings this season both went Over the total by a combined 20.5 points and neither team can play defense regardless of injuries.

Plus the last two Pelicans games went Over the total despite their lineup absences. “LEAN” to OVER 222.5 (-115) for a quarter-unit.
