Pelicans at Lakers picks and predictions

Prediction

Pelicans 111, Lakers 110

Moneyline

PASS.

The Pelicans (-155) moneyline is too expensive to bet in a game that I project to be close until the end. The Lakers will be confident heading into this game after a dominant performance vs. a Nuggets team that is projected to be top-4 in the Western Conference.

Against the spread

BET LAKERS +3 (-108).

I expect this to be a 1-possession game, so Lakers +3 is the safe bet. The market is overreacting to Los Angeles’ slow start and is undervaluing the Lakers at home for the 2nd consecutive game. Take the points with a team finally starting to build chemistry.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 229.5 (-110).

The Lakers have quietly been playing good defense this season and are tied for 8th in the NBA (alongside the Portland Trail Blazers and Dallas Mavericks) in opponent points per game – allowing just 110.5.

The Under is 4-0 in the last 4 head-to-head meetings between these teams and should hit again Wednesday as Los Angeles continues to play solid defensively.

New Orleans Pelicans at Los Angeles Lakers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s New Orleans Pelicans at Los Angeles Lakers and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Lakers (31-45) are vying for their playoff lives as they host the New Orleans Pelicans (33-43) Friday. Tip-off at Crypto.com Arena is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Pelicans vs. Lakers odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

L.A. could be getting PF Anthony Davis back tonight for this crucial game versus NOLA. The Lakers have dropped to the 11-seed in the Western Conference. They are tied with the San Antonio Spurs for the 10-seed but are losing the tiebreaker.

The Pelicans are 5-2 straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS) in the last 14 days, which includes back-to-back victories over the Lakers Sunday (116-108) and at the Portland Trail Blazers Wednesday (117-107).

The Lakers are 2-5 SU and 4-3 ATS over the past two weeks but have lost four straight games to Philadephia 76ers Mar. 23 (126-121), at the Pelicans, at the Dallas Mavericks Tuesday (128-110) and at the Utah Jazz Thursday (122-109).

NOLA is 2-1 SU and ATS versus L.A. this season and the total is 0-3 Over/Under (O/U).

Pelicans at Lakers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Pelicans 115, Lakers 109

Money line

LEAN to the PELICANS (-130) only because we’ll probably get a better number for NOLA if we wait closer to tip-off. The public will start betting on the Lakers once AD and LeBron are announced in the starting 5.

However, there’s massive reverse line movement (RLM) towards NOLA in both the ML and ATS markets.

The Pelicans opened as a +120 underdog but have been moved to a favorite despite a majority of the action being on the Lakers according to Pregame.com. RLM is a red flag since it would make more sense for the sportsbooks to make the more popular side pricier.

The bottom line is NOLA is a better team from top to bottom than L.A. and the Lakers need Herculean efforts from AD and LeBron just to remain in play-in territory. The Pelicans have a legit frontcourt and acquiring SG C.J. McCollum at the trade deadline has paid dividends in their backcourt so far.

NOLA’s matchup combined with RLM makes the PELICANS (-130) the right side but I’d wait until the official starters are posted before placing a wager.

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Against the spread

PASS with a heavy “lean” to the Pelicans -1.5 (-120) because they should win by margin. However, NOLA’s ML is only 10 cents on the dollar more expensive so why sweat a cover?

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 230.5 (-115) because the Under has cashed in six of NOLA’s past seven games and L.A.’s offense is broken.

The AD-LeBron-PG Russell Westbrook experiment is a failure and the Pelicans have the third-best adjusted defensive rating over the past two weeks, according to CleaningTheGlass.com.

It’s only a LEAN UNDER 230.5 (-115) because we are getting the worst of the number since the Pelicans-Lakers opened with a 234-point total.

New Orleans Pelicans at Los Angeles Lakers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s New Orleans Pelicans at Los Angeles Lakers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Lakers (27-32) host the New Orleans Pelicans (24-36) Sunday at Crypto.com Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we look at the Pelicans vs. Lakers odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

New Orleans won at Phoenix Friday 117-102 as a 6-point underdog. On the road, the Pelicans are 11-19 straight up (SU) and 14-16 against the spread (ATS).

Los Angeles was upset at home 105-102 Friday by the arena-mate Los Angeles Clippers as a 3-point favorite. The Lakers are 18-14 SU at home, but 13-19 ATS.

The Lakers are 6-1 SU and 5-1-1 ATS versus the Pelicans since the beginning of the 2019-20 season, Lakers PF Anthony Davis‘ first year in L.A.

Pelicans at Lakers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Pelicans 114, Lakers 103

Money line

GIMME 1.25 units on the PELICANS (-103) because they have a motivational edge, more continuity and are trending much better.

Pelicans former All-Star SF Brandon Ingram, who was sent to New Orleans in the Anthony Davis trade, has yet to beat his former employer since the deal. Look for Ingram to light up a bad Lakers defense Sunday night.

Furthermore, New Orleans is 1 game behind Portland for the 10th and final play-in seed in the West. The Pelicans were buyers at the trade deadline, picking up SG C.J. McCollum from the Trail Blazers.

Since the beginning of February, the Pelicans are 6-4 SU with a plus-5.2 adjusted net rating and plus-2.7 ATS margin, according to CleaningTheGlass.com. The Lakers are 3-5 SU this month with a minus-1.7 adjusted net rating and minus-1.3 ATS margin.

Finally, more than 80% of the action is on the Lakers’ ML, according to Pregame.com, but the line ticked down from -130 on the opener. This type of reverse-line movement should be a red flag for sports bettors.

BET PELICANS (-103) unless their spread goes to +2.5 or higher, at which point I’d take the points with NOLA and sprinkle on its ML.

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Against the spread

PASS unless the Pelicans +1.5 (-120) goes north of +2.5.

The Lakers are 10-16 ATS as home favorites with the fourth-worst ATS margin in the NBA (minus-3.7).

Over/Under

BET UNDER 222.5 (-115) for a one-third unit because this is a Pros vs. Joe’s game in the betting market for the total and New Orleans’ defense should lock up Los Angeles.

Roughly three-fourths of the cash is on the Under, whereas more than 80% of the bets placed are on the Over (per Pregame.com). Typically, it’s wise in sports betting to follow the money when it’s counter to the public.

On top of that, L.A. likes to push the pace (fourth-highest frequency of transition offense) but NOLA has the best defensive efficiency versus fast-break offense.

New Orleans Pelicans at Los Angeles Lakers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s New Orleans Pelicans at Los Angeles Lakers NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The New Orleans Pelicans (4-6) stop by Staples Center for a 10 p.m. ET game against the Los Angeles Lakers (10-3) Friday. Below, we analyze the Pelicans-Lakers NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

New Orleans has lost four straight games, three of which were by five or fewer points with the latest being a 111-106 loss Wednesday against the Los Angeles Clippers in this same building.

The main factor in the Pelicans’ loss was Los Angeles making 18 3-pointers compared to just 10 made threes for New Orleans. The Pelicans were very shorthanded as PG Lonzo Ball was sidelined with a knee injury and PF Zion Williamson had to sit in accordance with COVID-19 safety protocols after an inconclusive test.

The Lakers have cruised to a four-game win streak that featured back-to-back double-digit victories at the Houston Rockets, which were James Harden’s final two games in a Rockets uniform. The 2020-21 Lakers have made their bones on the defensive end of the floor thus far, ranking first in defensive rating and third in opponent’s field-goal shooting.

Last year was Lakers PF Anthony Davis’ first in Los Angeles after playing the first seven years of his career for the Pelicans. Los Angeles was 4-0 last season vs. New Orleans (2-1-1 against the spread) and AD averaged 36 points and 12 rebounds in his three games against his former team.

Pelicans at Lakers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Lakers 121, Pelicans 103

Money line (ML)

PASS ON THE MONEY LINE because it’s too expensive to bet the Lakers only to win.

It’s a nationally televised game and LeBron looks locked in already this season and is honing in on GOAT-like achievements and successful title defenses. I like the Lakers to beat the brakes off of the Pelicans Friday and the only real question is by how much.

Against the spread (ATS)

The major pro in taking the Pelicans plus the points here is their ability to backdoor cover. In Wednesday’s game against the Clippers, New Orleans outscored Los Angeles 63-50 in the second half to sneak in the backdoor and cover. Second-year Pelicans PG Nickeil Alexander-Walker had a career-high 37 points while filling in for the injured Ball.

The market movement is what confirms LAKERS -10.5 (-105) for 1 unit as a bet for me. According to Pregame.com, close to 70% of the money is coming in on the Pelicans yet the line has moved up from Lakers laying 8.5 on the opener. That tells me the House wants you to take New Orleans plus the points.

Go in the opposite direction and TAKE LAKERS -10.5 (-105).

Over/Under (O/U)

I only lean OVER 219.5 (-115) for a quarter-unit because the market is hammering the Over and it seems too obvious to bet Over.

LeBron on national TV, plus AD vs. his old team, plus Pelicans SF Brandon Ingram balling out to start the year, plus Zion returning to the lineup equals an Over for me.
