Video: Things get spicy between Jake Paul, Mike Tyson at Texas news conference

Mike Tyson repeatedly called Jake Paul “fat,” got heated at a pair of reporters, and promised to win by knockout with the first blow he lands.

ARLINGTON, Texas – [autotag]Jake Paul[/autotag] and [autotag]Mike Tyson[/autotag] met in a news conference setting for the second time Thursday at Texas Live! – and things got a little spicy.

For the first time since the bout was announced, trash talk was plentiful. Unlike their previous news conference in New York, cordiality dissipated as the event rolled on.

Paul (9-1) put down Tyson (50-6) and said he’d be the last guy to sleep him.

“I respect Mike and he’s a legend,” Paul said. “But it’s time. It’s my time now. There’s a reason I have the same birthday as Cus D’Amato because I’m going to teach you how to box, Mike.”

Tyson repeatedly called Paul “fat” and questioned the YouTuber-turned-boxer’s resume and power. He also promised to knock Paul out with the first punch he lands.

“He can’t even knock out [Nate] Diaz,” Tyson said. “[Nate] Diaz is 40 pounds. How are you going to knock me out? Who’s the other guy? Anderson Silva. He didn’t knock out those little guys. How’s he going to knock me out? … Who did he knock out? Who did he knock out? Little children. He never knocked out a real man. Come on.”

All of the trash talk may not have even been necessary to sell the fight. According to news conference host Brian Custer, the fight broke the largest live combat sports gate in Texas history less than 24 hours after tickets went on sale to the public. A specific figure was not revealed.

Thursday’s news conference took place a little over two months prior to the July 20 event at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. The event will stream on Netflix and mark the streaming service’s first delve into live combat sports.

It’s co-headlined by a rematch of one of the best women’s boxing bouts ever, as Amanda Serrano (46-2-1) and Katie Taylor (23-1) collide once again. Both women were also present at Thursday’s press conference.

Video: Jake Paul signals gunshot after Mike Tyson turns back during faceoff

Jake Paul and Mike Tyson faced off for the second time, and this one was much less cordial than the first.

ARLINGTON – [autotag]Jake Paul[/autotag] and [autotag]Mike Tyson[/autotag] concluded their second press conference Thursday in Texas with another faceoff that halted the lighthearted theme witnessed at the prior stop in New York.

In advance of the July 20 boxing match at AT&T Stadium, Paul (9-1) and Tyson (50-6) continued their two-city press conference tour at Texas Live!

After being friendly with each other in New York, Paul and Tyson got a bit more chippy the second time around. During their faceoff, Tyson brushed off Paul, who hand-signaled a gun firing when the former heavyweight boxing champion turned his back.

Co-main event participants Amanda Serrano (23-1) and Katie Taylor (46-2-1) were also featured in the press conference and squared off before Paul and Tyson.

Check out the videos to see how it all unfolded.

Darren Till books pro boxing debut vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson card

Former UFC title challenger Darren Till is diving into boxing against a former WBC champion in Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

[autotag]Darren Till[/autotag] is welcoming a notable challenge for his professional boxing debut.

Till, a former UFC welterweight title challenger, will meet [autotag]Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.[/autotag] (53-6-1, 1 NC) in a six-round, 190-pound bout July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The event, which is headlined by Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson, streams live on Netflix.

Till announced the matchup moments after promotional spokesperson Ariel Helwani first shared the news Wednesday morning.

Till, 31, parted ways with the UFC in March 2023. The British fighter recently said he still intends on returning to the octagon but not before pursuing some boxing matches.

“I’m very happy to be a part of this event,” Till said in a statement. “Paul vs. Tyson is going to be one of the biggest events of our generation, and to make my professional boxing debut on it is brilliant. I’m very happy with my opponent.

“I’ve been a fan of his father for many years, and I’ve been a fan of Chavez Jr. too – he is a great fighter who I respect, but make no mistake about it: I am coming to knock him out in the first round. I am happy with where I am in life, and I am coming to make a statement on Saturday, July 20 in Texas.”

Former WBC middleweight champion Chavez Jr. hasn’t competed since defeating David Zegarra by unanimous decision in December 2021. Prior to that, he lost a split decision to ex-UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

“I’m excited to return to the ring after some time off, and I’m motivated and eager to reestablish myself as one of the greats,” Chavez Jr. said in a statement. “I was the first Mexican middleweight champion in the history of Mexico and want to prove that I can again become a champion. My return to the ring at this historic event is an honor.”

Below is the updated lineup for Paul vs. Tyson on Netflix:

  • Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson
  • Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano – for undisputed lightweight title
  • Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Darren Till
  • Floyd Schofield vs. H20 Sylve

Deontay Wilder fears Mike Tyson could get ‘hit into a coma’ against Jake Paul

“I don’t want the last thing I remember of him is him getting knocked out by a YouTube,” Deontay Wilder said of Mike Tyson.

[autotag]Deontay Wilder[/autotag] worries for [autotag]Mike Tyson[/autotag]’s health against [autotag]Jake Paul[/autotag].

Tyson (50-6) takes on Paul (9-1) in an eight-round professional boxing match on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys. The event streams live on Netflix.

Former WBC heavyweight champion Wilder can’t believe the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations officially sanctioned Tyson vs. Paul as a professional fight.

“I think it’s bad the commission has licensed Mike Tyson because he hasn’t been active in 20 years, so they should not just license him because of who he is. That’s how people get hurt,” Wilder told Sportsbook Review.

“God forbid he gets hurt. People can get hit in the wrong place and at the wrong time. There’s lots of examples where guys have been hit into a coma. It’s easy to do. He’s too old for this.”

Wilder questions the commission for allowing Tyson to fight someone who will be 31 years younger than him on fight night.

“At the end of the day, no one gives a f*ck about Mike,” Wilder said. “We can talk about the pros and cons, but at the end of the day, they don’t give a f*ck. I don’t think anyone cares about Mike because if they did, they wouldn’t sanction the fight.

“They may say they’ve done tests and all that, OK, but as long as you’re willing to suffer the consequences if something bad goes wrong. His power may not have left completely, but you still need to set it up. Your stamina needs to be a certain way, or it’s going to look like a clown show. I don’t want to see it to be honest.”

Paul’s lone-career loss came to Tommy Fury, who was his toughest test on paper. Wilder thinks it would be a bad look for boxing legend Tyson to lose to Paul.

“I don’t want the last thing I remember of him is him getting knocked out by a YouTuber,” Wilder said. “The last thing you do, that’s what people remember you by.”

Joe Rogan says Mike Tyson in savage mode: ‘If I was Jake Paul, I would be sh*tting my pants’

Joe Rogan likes what he sees out of Mike Tyson’s mentality ahead of his fight against Jake Paul.

[autotag]Joe Rogan[/autotag] likes what he sees out of [autotag]Mike Tyson[/autotag]’s mentality ahead of his fight against [autotag]Jake Paul[/autotag].

Tyson (50-6) meets Paul (9-1) in an eight-round professional boxing match on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys. The event streams live on Netflix.

Many pundits have criticized the fight considering that Tyson will be 31 years older than Paul when they step into the ring, but Rogan says Tyson is dialed in.

“Mike Tyson’s mind has switched over into war,” Rogan said on a recent episode of his “Joe Rogan Experience.” “He was doing this interview and someone said to him, ‘You look like you’re in your 20s. What are you doing?’ He goes, ‘I just eat raw meat.’ He goes, ‘You’re eating raw meat?’

“He goes, ‘Yeah, I’m eating raw meat because that’s what I’m going to eat when I fight. I’m going to eat him. It’s raw meat.’ I was like, Jesus Christ. He’s in this f*cking mode. He’s in that God of War mode,’ and that he’s still got that in him. And I’m telling you, if you keep giving that guy hormones and you keep giving that guy supplements and he’s constantly training …”

Rogan thinks the version of Tyson who knocked out Marvis Frazier is the best heavyweight boxer ever. Even though he’ll be 58 when he faces Paul, Rogan says the boxing legend won’t have lost everything.

“He’s in savage mode,” Rogan said. “If I was Jake Paul right now, I would be sh*tting my pants. It’s all the experiences that he has had as a conqueror. You have to take those into consideration. When a man has smashed men before, just smashed men, like, when no one can stand in front of him, that is in his mind still.

“That’s in there. There’s a dark chamber in his mind that he can open up and I think he’s got it open. The question is, can his body move along with it? But that part of his mind, like, you’re clearly seeing. He’s terrifying when he’s in the zone.”

Daniel Cormier: Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson will be fun as long as it lasts, but ‘Father Time is undefeated’

Daniel Cormier absolutely expects age to play a factor in Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson.

[autotag]Daniel Cormier[/autotag] absolutely expects age to play a factor in [autotag]Jake Paul[/autotag] vs. [autotag]Mike Tyson[/autotag].

Paul (9-1) meets Tyson in an eight-round boxing match on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys. The event streams live on Netflix and will be officially sanctioned as a professional fight by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations.

Tyson (50-6) will be 31 years Paul’s senior when they step into the ring. While Cormier would love to see Tyson turn back the clock, he’s unsure if he’ll be able to.

“I don’t even know how to call this a fight,” Cormier told MMA Junkie Radio. “Honestly, I don’t even know how it’s a fight. It’s a weird, weird deal. But yeah, I think it’ll be fun. If Mike Tyson is free to fight, fight the way he wants to, he’s either going to knock him out or he’s going to get caught with something that’s going to get him knocked out. But hell, I’m watching it.

“It’ll be fun as long as it lasts because any time ‘Iron’ Mike fights, I’m such a massive fan – it don’t matter his age. Granted, it’ll be tough. Age wins, beats us all. Father Time is undefeated. There’s nothing said more true in the world than ‘Tather Time is undefeated.’ Mike looks great, but let’s see how he operates.”

Paul revealed it was Tyson who requested that their fight be a professional bout, not an exhibition. However, “The Problem Child” vows not to hold back against the boxing legend.

Stephen A. Smith ‘disgusted’ by Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson being sanctioned as a professional boxing bout

Stephen A. Smith is outraged to hear that the terms for Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson have been elevated.

[autotag]Stephen A. Smith[/autotag] is outraged to hear that the terms for [autotag]Jake Paul[/autotag] vs. [autotag]Mike Tyson[/autotag] have been elevated.

Paul (9-1) vs. Tyson (50-6) will be officially sanctioned as a professional fight by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations. The bout takes place July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys, and streams live on Netflix. It will be an 8-round fight with 2-minute rounds.

Tyson will be 58 when he steps into the ring for the first time since November 2020, 31 years Paul’s senior. Smith went off on the bout being classified as professional.

“I’m sad – I’m saddened by it,” Smith said on ESPN’s First Take. “I’m disgusted by it. I don’t like it one bit. I’m not taking anything away from the great Mike Tyson, who we all treasure because of the years of greatness he gave us. But he is 57. And in Jake Paul’s case, the only real fighter he’s fought has been Tommy Fury, who’s not considered in the upper echelon in anybody’s mind. Jake Paul has been training with professional boxing trainers for years.

“When are you going to get in the ring with a modern-day, reputable fighter with a big name who isn’t 20-plus years removed from retirement? The only time we’ve seen (Tyson) in the ring in that span is for an exhibition with Roy Jones Jr. I mean, come on man. Listen, Tyson can hurt anybody, and I’m not dismissing that. But he hasn’t been fighting and Jake Paul hasn’t fought any real, ranked professional boxers. Why should this be a sanctioned boxing match?”

Smith questions Paul’s approach. He doesn’t think his level of competition so far reflects his aspirations of becoming champion.

“I like Jake Paul and I appreciate what he does for the sport of boxing in terms of bringing attention to the sport and showing you can do it promoting yourself as opposed to being at the mercy of promoters,” Smith added. “The flip side to it, however, is that he keeps telling us how serious he’s taking this and how bad he wants it.

“Well, OK, if you want the money, please, keep doing your thing. But if it’s not just about that, and if it’s about you wanting to elevate your level, then you’ve got to get in the ring with somebody of your ilk, your age, your size because he’s fought dudes who are smaller than him by the way.”

Jake Paul says Mike Tyson the one who requested a professional bout: ‘I’m going to f*cking put him down’

Jake Paul wants to clarify that it’s Mike Tyson who wanted to elevate the stakes in their fight, not him.

[autotag]Jake Paul[/autotag] wants to clarify that it’s [autotag]Mike Tyson[/autotag] who wanted to elevate the stakes in their fight, not him.

Paul’s eight-round boxing match vs. Tyson on July 20 will be officially sanctioned as a professional fight by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations. The event takes place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys, and streams live on Netflix.

Paul (9-1) admits he worries about the public’s reaction if he knocks out Tyson (50-6), who will be 31 years his senior when they fight. While the likes of Daniel Cormier think he’s in a lose-lose situation facing Tyson, Paul looks at things differently.

“I think it’s a win-win,” Paul said on his BS w/ Jake Paul podcast. “They could hate me, they could love me. If I put my happiness to be dependent on an audience, then it’s a co-dependent relationship and co-dependent relationships aren’t good. If I’m relying on an audience to like me for my satisfaction then I will never be happy unless they like me, so that means I’ll do things to make them like me.”

Because of the vast age difference, many expected their boxing match to be an exhibition. However, Paul says that’s not what Tyson wanted.

“They’re just going to say he’s old and you disrespected him and all that sh*t, but I just want to make it clear, Mike Tyson was the one who wanted it to be a pro fight,” Paul said. “Mike got into training camp and called up people on my team and were like, ‘Let’s do a pro fight. Is Jake down?’ Netflix was like, ‘Let’s make it a pro fight. We’re down,’ And I said to Nakisa (Bidarian), ‘If that’s what Mike wants, then that’s fine, but make sure you tell Mike that there’s no holding back.’

“Whatever happens, happens, and this is war now. If Mike’s OK with that, then I’m OK with that. But I want Mike to be the one making this decision because I respect him as the legend. If he puts me down, I can deal with that. But if I put him down, he needs to be the one making the decision on whether or not he can deal with that. But yes, I’m going in there and now it’s a pro fight, it’s on my record, and I’m going to f*cking put him down. And if people are pissed about it, then watch soccer.”
