LaMarcus Aldridge, other Nets enter health protocols ahead of Sixers matchup

LaMarcus Aldridge and other Brooklyn Nets will enter the health protocols ahead of their matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Philadelphia 76ers were blown out by the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday after losing Joel Embiid and Seth Curry to injury shortly before tipoff, but their next two matchups could offer a chance to get back on track a bit.

While the Sixers will play a Miami Heat team down All-Stars Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler on Wednesday, they will also take on a Brooklyn Nets team on Thursday who will be down a few pieces.

Nets big man LaMarcus Aldridge entered the league’s health and safety protocols on Tuesday ahead of their matchup with the Toronto Raptors. He will join Paul Millsap, DeAndre’ Bembry, James Johnson, and Jevon Carter in the protocols with the team also missing Kyrie Irving and Joe Harris.

Aldridge scored 23 points in Brooklyn’s win over the Sixers in Philadelphia’s home opener back on Oct. 22 and the Sixers will now take on a Nets team that will be a bit more shorthanded than usual. On the flip side, they will still have Kevin Durant and James Harden so they will still be a formidable opponent on Thursday.

Paul Millsap says James Harden shouldn’t blame himself for Bulls loss

Paul Millsap: “We all take credit from that and we all could get better.”

The Brooklyn Nets are still finding their identity and although on paper and on the standings it may seem like they are close playing at their highest level, they’re nowhere close. There are still more bad times to come, more good times to celebrate and above all else, more ways to get better.

Nets star James Harden put Saturday night’s loss to the Chicago Bulls on him, but he wasn’t the only one making mistakes, so there should be no reason for him to feel like that.

At the end of the day, teams learn more from a loss than from a win so it’s important that these types of experiences happen now rather than later. Following the final buzzer, Nets veteran Paul Millsap stressed that Harden shouldn’t blame himself.

“He can’t blame himself for it,” said Millsap. It’s a team effort man. It doesn’t matter what goes on during the course of a game. What goes on down the stretch. Who did this, who missed this, who missed a shot, whatever man. At the end of the day, it’s a team sport. And we all take credit from that and we all could get better. We all missed some shots around the basket that we usually have. It’s unfortunate, you have one of those days.”

Brooklyn Nets quotes: Kevin Durant, James Harden and Paul Millsap on loss vs. Bulls

A disappointed Brooklyn team touches on what went wrong against Chicago.

Another loss to yet another elite team in the NBA has the Nets scratching their heads on what to do. This time around, it came at the hands of the Chicago Bulls. The defense was solid, although some fouls could have been avoided. Brooklyn being unable to reciprocate Chicago’s determination of getting to the stipe made things worse too, only getting to the line to shoot nine free throws.

Nevertheless, the contest made one thing known: Kevin Durant is the closer for this team until further notice. When James Harden decides to show that he is still that guy who can get you 30, 40 or even 50 points in games like these when his team needs him the most, he must not be given such big expectations anymore.

Harden is still going to be a very valuable asset to the team of course, but he has a lot of work to do offensively. When the top teams clash, the stars must show up and show out.

Here is what Durant, Harden, Paul Millsap and Nets head coach Steve Nash had to say about the loss.

Brooklyn Nets grades: Nets fall to Bulls after going down to the wire

Five players notched double-digits in scoring, but it wasn’t enough for Brooklyn to defeat Chicago.

The Chicago Bulls held on to beat the Brooklyn Nets for the second time this season. In a contest where the Nets had more opportunities offensively, attempting 25 more shots than the Bulls, it wasn’t enough to keep this surging Chicago team at bay.

Outrebounding the Bulls 55-47 was vital for Brooklyn in the matchup and they managed to scoop up 15 offensive boards in the process. Bruce Brown (4 PTS, 12 REBS) in particular led both teams in that category with his activity. However, this didn’t translate with the efficiency that the Nets shot the ball at.

Despite getting looks that they usually search for, the Nets went 41% from the field. The glaring part of their shooting was definitely on James Harden (14 PTS, 14 ASTS), going an inefficient 24% in 39 minutes. The free-throw discrepancy was also a problem for them, only getting to the stripe to shoot nine times for the entire game while Chicago shot 27 free throws.

Even so, Brooklyn was dominant with their interior scoring, outscoring the Bulls 54-38. They played hard too and it seemed like their efforts were going to be rewarded. Unfortunately for them, the stage was set for the final possessions of the game to determine a winner, and Lonzo Ball (8 PTS) stepped up to drain a timely three to give his squad room to breathe.

DeMar DeRozan’s (29 PTS 6 REBS) key play down the stretch was responsible for his squad in gaining that momentum to come out with the win. If it wasn’t for Zach LaVine’s (31 PTS) pressure attacking the interior and drawing fouls, Brooklyn’s defensive schemes would have been able to stop this.

On the bright side for the Nets, Durant passed Ray Allen (24,505 PTS) for 24th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. Steve Nash and his squad can redeem themselves on Tuesday when they take on the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center.

Nets vs. Sixers: Lineups, injury reports and broadcast info for Monday

The Brooklyn Nets will take on the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday for their third preseason game.

The Brooklyn Nets are off to a winning start to the preseason despite not having one of their star guards, Kyrie Irving. The team is sitting at 2-0 in preseason play after already defeating the Los Angeles Lakers and the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Philadelphia 76ers, potential contenders in the Eastern Conference, are determined to turn things around versus the Nets. The Sixers are coming off of a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. They will be in familiar territory at the Wells Fargo Center for their Monday showdown.

The Nets will not have Kyrie Irving in this game and Paul Millsap is still questionable due to health and safety protocols. For the Sixers, they are still without Ben Simmons. Of course, he still trying to make his way out of Philly via trade.

Steve Nash is thrilled to have Patty Mills and Paul Millsap on the Nets

Nets head coach Steve Nash is ready to go to work with the team’s new acquisitions.

Head coach Steve Nash is going to have his hands full this season, in a good way though. Not only does he have the luxury of coaching the big three, but he will coach some other key pieces who have seen it all. Nash had a lot to say on Tuesday’s press conference on the offseason’s acquisition of veteran guard Patty Mills:

“Patty (Mills) is obviously a championship player with the Spurs, he’s been there for 10 years. I think he’s an incredible lift to our culture, just being the type of character he is. The personality he has and his ability to shoot and play with pace helps us immensely as well.”

When talking about veteran forward Paul Millsap, the former NBA MVP highlighted the many gears the 36-year-old will bring to the table:

“Paul Millsap’s a tough, intelligent, skilled big who’s seen it all. Another guy that can play a few positions and stretch the floor or play inside. Can pass and playmake, facilitate and will understand and be able to fit into any defense.”

5 potential starting lineups for the Nets next season

The Brooklyn Nets have options, but which lineups will they rely on next season?

A busy offseason finds the Brooklyn Nets with more options to roll with during the season. Although the roster was deep last year, this year it is going to be far more deeper. In fact, the roster is so deep that Alize Johnson, a breakout player on the Nets last season, had to be waived. This of course could not have been in the original plans for Nets GM Sean Marks. It took an unforeseen return to basketball for LaMarcus Aldridge to force the move.

Now, it’s almost time to see who head coach Steve Nash and the rest of the coaching staff envision to start. Here are a couple lineups that will most definitely see the court together and have the chance of being interchangeable as the season progresses:

Sean Marks praises DeAndre Jordan after two seasons with the Nets

Nets GM Sean Marks had a special message for DeAndre Jordan after trading him.

It has been a hectic week for the Brooklyn Nets. They managed to sign two of the best veterans available in free agency in Paul Millsap and LaMarcus Aldridge, but it came with a cost. The Nets waived Alize Johnson and traded away DeAndre Jordan to acquire Sekou Doumbouya and Jahlil Okafor. Brooklyn also included four draft picks in the exchange.

Trading Jordan was a big move considering that Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant convinced the big man to join them on the Nets in that 2019 free agency window. However, times have changed. With rumors stirring up for weeks on the 33-year-old possibly being traded, things finally came into fruition.

In the former Texas A&M product’s two seasons in Brooklyn, he averaged 7.9 PPG along with 8.7 RPG. Upon his departure, Nets GM Sean Marks had this to say:

“We appreciate everything DeAndre (Jordan) has contributed to our organization over the past two seasons both on and off the court and wish him and his family the best moving forward.”

Report: Nets sign LaMarcus Aldridge and waive Alize Johnson

The Brooklyn Nets officially sign LaMarcus Aldridge, but Alize Johnson is set to be waived.

It’s all coming together for Nets GM Sean Marks and the Brooklyn Nets. The day after the team signed four-time All-Star Paul Millsap, they are now welcoming back seven-time All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge. It will be on a one-year deal worth up to $2.6M per Adrian Wojnarowski. In the span of 48 hours, Brooklyn just upped the ante in their frontcourt.

In Aldridge’s five games with the Nets last season, he averaged 12.8 PPG in 26 MPG. He was also very efficient too, going 52% from the field and 80% from three. The veteran big man was even a presence in the interior, making an instant impact, averaging 2.2 BPG. Of course, his time with Brooklyn was cut short due to health precautions concerning an irregular heartbeat.

This time around, Aldridge has been blessed with a chance to return to basketball after being medically cleared. His quest to try to win that ring he has so desperately coveted for 15 seasons playing in the league has officially arrived. At what cost though? Well, the cost of Alize Johnson’s time with the Nets.

Johnson, who made a name for himself last season for Brooklyn, has been waived to open up a roster spot for the 36-year-old veteran. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Nets will allow the 25-year-old to play elsewhere because of how loaded they are at the forward position.

Report: Veteran Paul Millsap agrees to deal with Brooklyn Nets

After being linked to the Warriors in the offseason, veteran free-agent forward Paul Millsap has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Brooklyn Nets.

During the 2021 offseason, the Golden State Warriors have been linked to a flurry of veteran free agents. The Warriors were reportedly one of the teams showing interest in veteran free agent Paul Millsap.

Instead of landing in the Bay Area, the former Denver Nuggets forward will reportedly team up with Kevin Durant, James Harden, Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Millsap has agreed to a deal with the Nets. Millsap will join Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge, Patty Mills and rookie Cam Thomas as some of Brooklyn’s offseason additions.

Via @ShamsCharania on Twitter:

During the 2020-21 campaign, Millsap played 56 games, averaging nine points on 47.6% shooting from the floor with 4.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 20.8 minutes per contest.

As the Warriors attempt to build for a run back to the postseason, Bob Myers and Steve Kerr have inked contracts to veteran free agents, including Otto Porter Jr., Nemanja Bjelica and Andre Iguodala.
