AUGUSTA, Ga. — After beautiful weather over the weekend and into Monday, Tuesday’s practice rounds were cut short ahead of the the 2022 Masters Tournament.

“Due to inclement weather conditions and safety concerns, Augusta National Golf Club was forced to suspend play, and subsequently, evacuate the grounds at 10:55 a.m. ET for Tuesday (April 5) practice round,” according to a release from Augusta National. “The current forecast will not permit the reopening of the grounds.”

Those who had tickets for Tuesday’s practice round will be guaranteed the opportunity to purchase the same tickets next year, with more information to come in May.

“The safety of everyone at Augusta National was the determining factor in the decision to suspend Tuesday’s practice round and evacuate the grounds,” said Fred Ridley, Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament. “We share in the disappointment of our patrons though, we look forward to welcoming them back next year.”

The Weather Channel forecasts scattered storms in the early afternoon that will develop into strong thunderstorms in the evening, with “damaging winds, large hail and possibly a tornado.”

Scattered thunderstorms are also expected on Wednesday, when the first Masters Par 3 Contest since 2019 is scheduled to begin at noon. Thursday’s forecast for the opening round calls for party cloudy conditions with rain in the early morning.
