Patriots’ full 7-round 2023 mock draft 5.0

With the NFL Scouting Combine in the rearview, here’s a full seven-round draft for the Patriots.

With the NFL Scouting Combine in the rearview, it’s time to check back in with the our latest, seven-round mock draft.

The Patriots have utilized an approach to find more explosive athletes in the draft, as they added Cole Strange, Tyquan Thornton, and Pierre Strong Jr.,  who all scored over a 8.5 RAS (relative athletic score) in 2022. Marcus Jones, although explosive, did not have an RAS score as he did not participate during the combine.

In this mock draft, like the others, we will be focusing on what the Patriots will likely do, rather than what I would do.

Without further hesitation, let’s get into the Patriots’ latest 2023 mock draft haul.

Evaluating potential destinations and trade packages for Damien Harris

Could Damien Harris be on the trade block, and if so, where might he end up and for what price?

New England Patriots running back Damien Harris has been an early-down workhorse with 1,897 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns in his first four seasons of his career. Harris was selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft, but he has yet to turn into the three-down versatile back that is becoming increasingly more common as each year passes.

Harris, 25, is an  incredible goal line back, but he’s in the last year of his rookie deal and is set to hit the open market at a young age with plenty of suitors. The Patriots, on the other hand, have Rhamondre Stevenson, who has been dipping into Harris’ share of touches since 2021, and by the look of things, he may have finally overtaken the former Alabama standout as the lead back, thanks to his pass-catching ability.

Stevenson has 25 catches on the season, which is second behind Jakobi Meyers for the team lead.

Although the Patriots could be in line for a compensatory pick, if Harris leaves, that pick will not kick in until 2024 and is contingent on the level of talent New England brings in to replace talent lost. As the Patriots are projected to have decent cap space to make additions, with room to create more space, the compensatory selection may never find the light of day for Harris.

The Patriots may not re-sign Harris, as the only backs who get second contracts in New England are the ones who can also catch passes. And Stevenson does exactly that.

Harris is good enough to warrant a long-term contract, but in New England, I have the utmost faith they can draft and develop the next guy, like they have done for years at the running back position. If the Patriots are looking to move Harris for something, they must do so by the November 1 NFL trade deadline.

Potential destinations and trade packages for Nelson Agholor

Here are some potential trade packages for Nelson Agholor as the November 1 trade deadline looms.

The NFL trade deadline is quickly approaching, and one of the top names from the Patriots being thrown around is Nelson Agholor, who is on the final year of his contract and is owed around $9 million this season.

When the Patriots traded for DeVante Parker, many thought it would spell the end for Agholor, who had a rough initial season statistically. Then the team selected young rookie Tyquan Thornton in the 2022 NFL draft and Agholor played his way onto the roster after a strong camp. The Patriots quickly had good depth at a position they have struggled to find talent at over the years.

Now that Thornton is healthy and the Patriots are in need of reps for the young rookie, Agholor could be a piece to move, and reports are already circulating that teams have been calling.

Here are some potential destinations and trade packages for the veteran receiver.

3 trades Patriots should consider making before the deadline

Here are 3 trades the Patriots should consider making before the November 1 deadline.

The New England Patriots have had a shaky start to the season thus far, but things could be worse.

With Mac Jones on the roster, things are promising at the quarterback position. Even if Jones isn’t an elite QB, he has shown that he can hang in the league as a mid-tier starter at worst. With that being said, since Jones is on a rookie contract, the Patriots should take advantage and make a move to bolster the roster, while the opportunity to do so is affordable.

All of that could go out the window when it’s Jones’ turn to get paid.

Keep in mind, these deals are not reports and are hypothetical scenarios of players who I think would fit perfectly with this roster. Trade compensation and salaries can and always will be worked out, even with coach Bill Belichick.

There’s still some time before the November 1 trade deadline, but here are three moves the Patriots should consider making before that date.
