Warriors pick Trayce Jackson-Davis No. 57, move Patrick Baldwin Jr.

The Golden State Warriors will select Trayce Jackson-Davis at No. 57 and send Patrick Baldwin Jr. to the Washington Wizards.

The Golden State Warriors continue to be a busy team as they continue to remain in contention in the 2023-24 season.

After pulling off a surprising huge move with the Washington Wizards by bringing in Chris Paul for Jordan Poole, another aspect of that deal came to light during Thursday’s draft.

The Warriors will send Patrick Baldwin Jr. to the Wizards as part of the Paul-Poole deal and they also acquired the No. 57 pick from Washington. With that selection, Golden State will take Indiana forward Trayce Jackson-Davis.

Jackson-Davis had an impressive season with the Hoosiers averaging 20.9 points and 10.8 rebounds to go along with 4 assists. He also shot 58.1% from the floor.

As for Baldwin Jr., he gets a fresh start in Washington. He was the 28th pick in the 2022 NBA draft and averaged 3.9 points and 1.3 rebounds for Golden State. He will look to get more playing time with the Wizards.

Warriors assign rookie Patrick Baldwin Jr. to G League Santa Cruz

The Warriors rookie forward will join G League Santa Cruz.

Following their eight-game homestand, the Golden State Warriors are set for a five-game road swing. Before they start their road trip with a game against the San Antonio Spurs on Friday, the Warriors are sending one of their young prospects to the G League.

On Wednesday, the Warriors assigned rookie forward Patrick Baldwin Jr. to G League Santa Cruz. Baldwin Jr. will join fellow rookie Ryan Rollins with G League Santa Cruz.

Via @WarriorsPR on Twitter:

Baldwin played 10 or more minutes in three consecutive games before not playing at all in Golden State’s loss to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday at San Francisco’s Chase Center.

With Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, Steph Curry and Andre Iguodala missing time due to injury, Steve Kerr gave the rookie an opportunity in the rotation. However, with Wiggins, Iguodala and Curry returning, Golden State’s veteran depth throughout the rotation has grown.

During his recent appearances with the Warriors, Baldwin has impressed, scoring eight or more points in four of his last five games. Baldwin has shown off his smooth jumper from deep, hitting at least one 3 in five straight appearances for the Warriors.

In 13 games with the Warriors, Baldwin is averaging 5.4 points on 42.9% shooting from the field and 43.2% from long distance in 8.8 minutes per game.

The G League Warriors will open a set of back-to-back games against the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Thursday in Santa Cruz.

Warriors’ Patrick Baldwin Jr. reflects on staying ready amid hectic week

From practicing in Santa Cruz to playing in the NBA on the same night, Baldwin has had a hectic week with the Warriors.

Patrick Baldwin Jr. hasn’t played much with the Golden State Warriors this season, but the 28th pick is staying ready for the opportunity to play, which, this week, suddenly came out of nowhere.

Baldwin woke up on Wednesday and drove to Santa Cruz to practice with the Warriors’ G League affiliate. Moments after the session wrapped up, Baldwin and fellow rookie Ryan Rollins were summoned to join the team back in San Fransisco in the aftermath of Donte DiVincenzo and Draymond Green being listed as questionable to play versus Utah.

The two rookies arrived about one hour prior to the tip, and immediately got ready.

Though DiVincenzo and Green each played, Baldwin was called into action with Jonathan Kuminga dealing with foul trouble. He responded by recording 11 points and three rebounds on 3-of-5 shooting from 3-point range off the bench in the 112-107 win.

“It is pretty impressive for them to be going back and forth and then for Patrick to come in and play the way he did,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “It is exciting. He has got a lot of skill and isn’t afraid.”

Said Baldwin afterward: “It has been a crazy last four hours.”

After helping the Warriors to the win, Baldwin, along with Rollins, returned to Santa Cruz on Thursday and suited up in their matchup versus the Stockton Kings. He had 14 points, seven rebounds and two blocks in the 121-112 loss. Rollins had 15 points, three rebounds and two assists.

The hectic schedule of going back and forth is such the life of a rookie out of the rotation. Teams often need those end-of-bench players to be ready and it can often decide the outcome of a game.

Baldwin knew his teammates needed him and was ready to step in.

“When you check in the game and Draymond is telling you to let it fly, you let it fly,” Baldwin said. “So, it is just great confidence and you just gotta stay ready.”

NBA rookie Patrick Baldwin Jr., nicknamed PBJ, somehow only just tried peanut butter and jelly

PBJ had his first-ever PBJ!

NBA rookie Patrick Baldwin Jr. has had a crazy couple of days trying to balance his time between the G League and the Golden State Warriors.

Baldwin, who scored 17 points on Dec. 21 and 11 points on Dec. 28, is finding a rhythm now that he is getting more professional minutes. But beyond his accomplishments on the court, he is also expanding his horizons off it as well.

The 20-year-old forward, who often goes by his nickname PBJ, said that he finally tried eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for the first time in his life. This was a shocking update for everyone who heard it.

During the pre-draft process, Baldwin admitted to For The Win that despite his nickname,e he had not yet had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich:

“The nickname actually comes from Doug Collins. My dad was on staff with Chris Collins, Doug’s son. One day, I was in fifth grade, and I walked in the office. Doug just phrased the nickname PBJ. From there, it stuck. I’ve had that nickname since fifth grade. That’s what people call me and what people know me by now. Actually, ironically, I’ve never had a PBJ. I’m not a fan of peanut butter too much.”

Baldwin said that he was not much of a fan of peanut butter and preferred eating turkey sandwiches or bagels with cream cheese.

Now, however, the rookie said that peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are now his go-to snacks when he is on a road trip. Baldwin told reporters that he “definitely missed out” by not trying PB&J’s earlier. He said that he had two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on his most recent road trip.

The rookie revealed that the reason why he finally tried the sandwich was for a soon-to-be-released video that his fans can expect to watch sometime in the next few weeks.

Warriors’ Patrick Baldwin Jr. learning through G League experience

Warriors rookie Patrick Baldwin Jr. scored his first points in the NBA on Monday versus the Pelicans.

With playing time at a premium in the NBA, Golden State Warriors rookie Patrick Baldwin Jr. has had the opportunity to log three appearances in the NBA G League with the Santa Cruz Warriors.

The experience is helping Baldwin with the transition to the NBA.

Baldwin is averaging 13.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, one assist and one steal on 35% shooting from 3-point range with Santa Cruz. He is playing 25 minutes per game on average and has scored in double figures twice in the early going.

The Warriors were without Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins on Monday versus the New Orleans Pelicans, clearing the way for Baldwin to play. He responded by recording seven points, five rebounds and three steals in 15 minutes.

His time in the G League helped him in that outing.

Coming from college, I only played 11 games and my career is still pretty fresh. I only played five preseason games and only appeared in three regular-season games so the G League is about getting my feet wet, getting comfortable with NBA concepts, and NBA speed and physicality. I think some of that did carry into tonight.

The game plan for Baldwin and fellow rookie Ryan Rollins is simple: Get as many reps as possible. The organization wants Baldwin and Rollins to practice and see game action at every opportunity, either in the G League or NBA.

“They just need reps. You can see it,” Steve Kerr said. “The game is happening pretty quickly out there. When the game is going fast, that tends to mean a lot of mistakes. The 28 turnovers (by the Warriors on Monday) were a sign of that. The only remedy for that is experience. Our guys just need reps and they need to play.”

The game was the first extended run for Baldwin with Golden State. He had logged only four minutes of work in two appearances prior to Monday so his seven points, five rebounds and three steals were the first official stats recorded in the NBA.

The Warriors have utilized their G League affiliate often in recent memory.

Kevon Looney, Jordan Poole, James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody have played with Santa Cruz. Wiseman has even spent time there this season. They run the same system in Santa Cruz as with Golden State, which has helped the players learn.

Baldwin likes that things are very similar in the G League.

I think the only difference is the times when we do it. I’ll get my treatment in the morning. We’ll have practice, film and I’ll do breakdowns with my coaches. We’ll get our shots up and talk about the next day. It is very similar to how they run down there versus up here. I think it makes it easier for a lot of young guys to make it seamlessly transition back and forth.

Warriors president Bob Myers hinted at the start of the season that Baldwin and Rollins could spend time in the G League. The chance to play with Santa Cruz will help them continue to learn and improve with game experience and playing time.

The two players each understand what their season will entail and have bought into the plan. They view any chance to play as another opportunity to improve on the court.

“I think me and Ryan have done a great job of just keeping our heads down and working and taking advantage of every opportunity we have to step onto the court,” Baldwin said. “Eventually, it will pay off.”

Watch: Rookie Patrick Baldwin Jr. hits first 3-pointer with Warriors

On Monday against the Pelicans, rookie Patrick Baldwin Jr. knocked down his first triple as a member of the Golden State Warriors.

On the second leg of a back-to-back on Monday, the Golden State Warriors rested four core players against the New Orleans Pelicans. Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green stayed on the bench in the Big Easy.

Although the Warriors were short-handed, Monday’s game against the Pelicans provided Golden State’s young core with extended playing time. While Jordan Poole and Jonathan Kuminga led the way, rookies Ryan Rollins and Patrick Baldwin Jr. made appearances off the bench.

During his 16 minutes off the bench on Monday, Baldwin Jr. recorded an NBA career-first. With less than seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Baldwin Jr. drilled his first 3-pointer since being selected by the Warriors with the No. 28 pick in the 2022 NBA draft.

Via @DaltonJ_Johnson on Twitter:

Baldwin Jr. finished Golden State’s 128-83 blowout loss to New Orleans with seven points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field to go along with five rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench.
