‘The Price is Right’ contestant wins rare double showcase with absurd guess within $1

What a day for game shows.

Pat Sajak’s final episode as the host of “Wheel of Fortune,” will air on Friday night, marking the end of a four-decade run since the show began in its current form in 1983.

And somehow, that may not be the wildest game show-related news from Friday.

During the showcase at the end of “The Price is Right,” Alberta native Patrice Masse did the unthinkable, winning a rare double showcase when his estimated price of the prize package was just $1 below the actual price of $39,501.

Contestants win both showcase prizes when their guess is within $250. Masse’s, meanwhile, was nearly perfect. Check out his reaction and that of host Drew Carey, who called it “the best showcase bid in the history of the show, in my opinion.”

(Warning: The following post includes NSFW language.)

I mean, seriously. What are the odds?

Masse earned himself quite a bounty with his spectacular guess as his prize package included a brand new Kia K5 GT-Line, luxury trips to Milan, Italy, Hawaii, and Miami, and designer apparel from Versace, Gucci and Coach.

Vanna White delivered a very sweet farewell to Pat Sajak ahead of his final Wheel of Fortune episode

Vanna White gave a very moving farewell message to Pat Sajak ahead of his final Wheel of Fortune show.

With longtime Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak stepping away from his hosting duties, his longtime screen partner Vanna White delivered a very poignant farewell to the game show legend.

Sajak and White have been together on Wheel of Fortune for more than four decades, as the two are synonymous for the long-running game show and the televised format at large.

On the show’s YouTube page, White gave her official farewell to Sajak, and you can imagine it’s a pretty powerful expression of gratitude after the two game show icons have been working alongside each other for so long.

It’s pretty moving to watch this when you think about their cumulative legacies on the show.

Sajak’s final Wheel of Fortune episode airs Friday, with White slated to be right by his side for his final broadcast. Longtime television personality Ryan Seacrest is slated to take over for Sajak after he leaves the program.

Wheel of Fortune’s Pat Sajak and his daughter Maggie reveal what’s behind the puzzle board

Take a trip behind the Wheel of Fortune puzzle board with Pat Sajak as his final week hosting begins.

It’s the final week of Pat Sajak’s decades-long career hosting Wheel of Fortune, with Ryan Seacrest poised to take over. So maybe he’s happy to open up the cameras to show some behind-the-scenes stuff as the end nears.

Thanks to his daughter, Maggie, we got a little look at what’s behind the big board that we look at night after night. It’s a lot of backstage stuff, like Pat’s water bottles, a lot of TVs, a clock and folks who are working on the show … including, as far as I can see, Vanna White!

Here’s the video Maggie shared recently:

There’s a lot of buzz from fans surrounding White, with them hoping she can move from turning letters and having charming banter with Sajak to hosting. But there are some other names being thrown around from various reports.

So let’s take a look at who’s being reported from various sources, starting with the name that could be a frontrunner:

Notre Dame student won on ‘Wheel of Fortune’ in 2020

Some shocking news brings this moment to mind.

The television world has been rocked by the news that longtime “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak will retire after the show’s next season. Having held that post since late 1981, Sajak has become a part of our everyday lives much like Bob Barker and Alex Trebek were. The question now is whether Vanna White, his co-host for nearly as long, will follow him out the door.

Anyway, with this news, it’s worth looking back at Notre Dame’s Amanda Pottorff, who made it to the show’s bonus round in March 2020:

Pottorff didn’t solve the episode’s final puzzle, but she walked away with a nice chunk of change and a trip to Antigua. The Observer, Notre Dame’s student newspaper, ran a story about her if you want to know more about her experience. Her appearance came tnearly two years after that another student, Kathleen Capella, who won $20,201, including a trip to Aruba, but also lost in the bonus round.

Most importantly, Pottorff has completed her studies at Notre Dame. She graduated last month with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Here’s hoping she does great things.

6 replacements for Wheel of Fortune host after Pat Sajak announced his retirement

Who should host Wheel of Fortune after Pat Sajak retires?

For the first time in 42 years, Wheel of Fortune will have a new host.

On Monday, long-time Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak announced his retirement from the show. Sajak plans to host his final season — which begins in September — and then will retire after over four decades on the job.

Sajak has been the primary host of Wheel of Fortune since 1981 and for many, the only host of the show they’ve ever seen. Over the years, Wheel of Fortune has entertained many, in part thanks to contestant goofs and Sajak’s own antics. As of Monday, no replacement for Sajak has been named.

Since Sajak’s replacement is still up in the air, here are six people who could very comfortably step into his shoes and take over Wheel of Fortune hosting duties!

Did Pat Sajak mishearing a contestant’s Wheel of Fortune answer cost her $100,000?

Did a contestant say “just winging it?”

We’ve got ourselves a new “did they say Laurel or Yanny” debate, courtesy of Pat Sajak and Wheel of Fortune.

Here’s the situation: In a final puzzle, a contestant ended up with __ST _IN_IN_ IT, with the clue of “What are you doing?”

At first, you’ll hear her guess something that sounds, to me, like “Just winning it.” But some viewers heard her say “Just winging it,” which was the correct answer.

She didn’t end up winning the prize of $100,000. And when she found out the answer, she didn’t argue that she had said “just winging it,” which tells me she said “just winning it.”

Not everyone agreed!

Pat Sajak celebrated a pro wrestler’s Wheel of Fortune win by jokingly tapping him out

Sajak busted out the cross face chicken wing to celebrate a $75k win.

Fred Fletcher-Jackson absolutely dominated his turn on Wheel of Fortune. To help him celebrate, a 76-year-old Pat Sajak dominated him.

Fletcher-Jackson is a drama teacher, pub quiz host and occasional pro wrestler by trade. He’s also one hell of a Wheel savant. His appearance on the long-running game show saw him sweep all seven of the game’s puzzles before solving the bonus round in three guesses.

That absurd performance saw him take home $75,800 in prizes for being good at words. It was the kind of occasion you celebrate — and after a brief moment, Sajak knew just what to do. He borrowed Bob Backlund’s famed finisher and threw the hirsute occasional wrestler into a cross-face chicken wing:

Fletcher-Jackson, to his credit, wasn’t fazed by the act of playful violence from a famous septuagenarian. As a man who fully understands his craft, he sold the move with aplomb.

This guy won $75 grand AND got put to sleep by the most famous non-Alex Trebek game show host in the country. That’s a win-win situation. Next up for Sajak will be putting Ken Jennings in the figure four while telling him he’s a nerd.
