Houston Texans coach Lovie Smith may be 63 years old, but he showed that he still has some game.

While hanging out with former Indianapolis Colts punter and internet sensation Pat McAfee for his eponymous show during the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Smith took the challenge to hit a jump shot from the free throw line. The former 2005 NFL Coach of the Year nailed the shot, nothing but net.

Although the Texans have a long road to complete the rebuild following two straight seasons of just four wins, Smith has infused optimism and confidence, and the swish is emblematic of how smooth the operation has gone since his promotion to coach.

No one gets as candid as the Pat McAfee Show when it comes to the NFL.

The former punter’s daily streaming show was more than impressed with the Buffalo Bills in Week 4 as well. After dominating the Houston Texans, 40-0 , McAfee himself kept it simple and in his own unique way.

“The Bills beat the (expletive) out of the Texans. Period. The Bills are fun to watch,” McAfee said.

Clearly, this video might be considered NSFW. But it includes s a lot of praise for the Bills.

Aaron Rodgers had the worst game of his life in Week 1 against the New Orleans Saints, failing to find the end zone while throwing a couple of ugly interceptions while being thoroughly outplayed by his opponents in black and gold. But the Green Bay Packers quarterback wants a mulligan for his first giveaway — or at least some pity. He shared his side of the story on the Pat McAfee Show.

“I don’t like to make a lot of excuses for interceptions. … That one was entirely due to the double-nut-shot I took. Right before throwing it, I took a left clothesline and somebody with a right cross,” Rodgers said. “I guess Iā€™ve got to overcome that.”

It’s a tough break for Rodgers, but it was a nice moment for Saints rookie Paulson Adebo, who can now say he picked off a Hall of Fame-bound quarterback the first time he stepped on an NFL field. Green Bay’s offensive line will need to do a better job protecting the franchise’s crown jewel if they want to avoid more ugly outings like this.

Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday, former Alabama running back Najee Harris was asked about if he knew how crazy SEC fans were before playing for the Crimson Tide as he grew up in California.

The future NFL Draft pick joked that he couldnā€™t get a bite to eat without someone saying ā€œRoll Tide!ā€ to him. Harris, who seems like an extremely likable guy, sometimes shocked those Alabama fans with two words they donā€™t want to hear: War Eagle!

Even Bills QB Josh Allen took a jab at the NFC East

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen took a jab at the NFC East on the Pat McAfee Show.

It’s all but expected that the 2020 NFL postseason will include a team that’s going to have a losing record. An optimist might peg a .500 team.

Still, some football traditionalists hate seeing a team with a poor record in the postseason. It’s happened very few times in the league’s history. The reason why 2020 might be a year that this happens again (aside from everything this year being messed up) is because of the NFC East.

The division which includes some very poor records via the Giants, Football Team, Eagles, and Cowboys have been the butt of many jokes this season, and for good reason.

Even Bills quarterback Josh Allen got in on the fun.

Allen, appearing on the Pat McAfee Show on Friday, he decided hey, his team is 8-3, so he’s allowed to take such jabs, evidently.

While discussing the Bills’ potential chance to win the AFC East title this season, Allen was lining up the classic Sean McDermott company-line approach. Instead, we got something that Rex Ryan would be proud of.

The Bills quarterback said Buffalo’s current eight wins won’t get the job done in terms of taking home a divisional crown.

That is, unless they were in the NFC East.

“Exactly, why not us? And again, eight wins doesn’t win the division… unless you’re in the NFC East,” Allen said.

Damn, Josh. Be easy.

But it’s certainly not just Allen saying such things, as mentioned. Many are for good reason. No one in the division has more than four wins currently:

NFC East standings

  1. New York Giants: 4-7
  2. Washington Football Team: 4-7
  3. Philadelphia Eagles: 3-7-1
  4. Dallas Cowboys: 3-8

And hey, for what it’s worth… Allen might have bragging rights already locked up. Many will remember Allen and the Bills topping the Cowboys in Thanksgiving in 2019. But Buffalo did face the entire NFC East a year ago. The Bills were 3-1 against them.

Lane Kiffin: ‘No way they could play’ this week according to two SEC coaches

On Thursday, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin joined the Pat McAfee Show to talk turkey about the upcoming football season.

Only three weeks separate us from the opening Saturday of the Southeastern Conference’s 2020 football season despite the continued persistence of the novel coronavirus pandemic. While questions still swirl in a maelstrom of speculation regarding whether or not the season will kick off on time ā€” much less play through its completion ā€” some doubt still hovers over like a thick, southern fog.

On Thursday, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin joined the Pat McAfee Show to talk turkey about the upcoming football season. When asked about his confidence in the league’s ability to get the season underway on time, he offered the following.

“This isnā€™t 100 percent. You know, weā€™ve still got a ways to go to get through this because there are some teams right now in the SEC ā€” you know, I heard from two coaches today, that thereā€™s no way they could play that game this week.

The two coaches Kiffin references remain unclear, but given the SEC’s insistence on moving forward with its 10-game, conference-only schedule, it is unlikely that two of 14 total member schools struggling to get on track will be a significant trammel to the upcoming football schedule. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen how all of this will pan out.
