Panthers Week 14 injury report: Greg Olsen, 3 others miss first practice

Olsen was one of four players who sat out the first day of practice for this week.

Panthers tight end Greg Olsen is still in the concussion protocol following the head shot he took in Sunday’s loss to Washington. Olsen was one of four players who sat out the first day of practice for this week.

Here’s your first look at the team’s Week 14 injury report.

TE Greg Olsen Concussion DNP
OT Greg Little Ankle DNP
DT Gerald McCoy Knee DNP
S Eric Reid Ankle DNP
OT Taylor Moton Knee Limited
LB Shaq Thompson Ankle Limited

If Olsen can’t play against the Falcons, expect second-year tight end Ian Thomas to get a much larger role on offense. To date, he’s only played 101 offensive snaps – 11.9% of the team’s total.

Expect McCoy and Reid to resume practicing later in the week. Little is a question mark, though. In any case, sixth-round pick Dennis Daley remains the Panthers’ best option to play left tackle right now.

Panthers injury updates: 2 players sit out Thanksgiving day practice

The Carolina Panthers held a Thanksgiving practice today and two players sat out.

Football does not rest for holidays. The Carolina Panthers held a Thanksgiving practice today and two players sat out.

Here’s a small side of injury updates to go with your main meal.

Rookie offensive tackle Greg Little missed the second day in a row of practice. He suffered ankle injury in Sunday’s loss to the Saints. If he participates on Friday, he might play but right now it looks like he won’t be in the lineup against Washington this week. If that’s the case, expect coach Ron Rivera to go back to Dennis Daley, who has done well at that spot.

The team’s fifth-round pick – running back Jordan Scarlett – also sat out. He’s dealing with a knee/ankle issue. Scarlett has not gotten many snaps this season. He’s a good candidate to get more playing time down the stretch in order to see what he can do and also to preserve Christian McCaffrey for the long run now that the playoffs are practically out of reach. After getting Wednesday off to rest, McCaffrey got a full load at today’s practice.

Linebacker Shaq Thompson and safety Eric Reid were both upgraded from DNPs to limited participants. Both should be good to go.

Panthers Week 13 injury report: Rookie OT Greg Little out again

If Little can’t go, expect the Panthers to put sixth-rounder Dennis Daley back in the lineup at left tackle.

Panthers second-round pick Greg Little is having a rough rookie season. He spent several weeks in the concussion protocol, delaying his development and now he’s dealing with an ankle problem.

Here is your first look at this week’s injury report.

If Little can’t go, expect the Panthers to put sixth-rounder Dennis Daley back in the lineup at left tackle.

Two names that aren’t here but are worth mentioning are Dontari Poe and Greg Van Roten. Both have been placed on the injured reserve list after getting hurt on Sunday against the Saints.

Look for more updates later this week.

Panthers injury updates: 3 players questionable vs. Saints

The Panthers have not ruled anybody out for Sunday’s game. Three players are listed as questionable.

Here’s a phrase we haven’t heard in a while. The Panthers have not ruled anybody out for Sunday’s game. Three players are listed as questionable.

Cornerback Ross Cockrell was limited earlier this week with his quad injury. However, he joined the team on the field today and it sounds like they’re expecting him to suit up against the Saints. The other two questionables are rookie offensive tackles Dennis Daley and Greg Little.

For what its worth, yesterday coach Ron Rivera told reporters he anticipates Little will get the start at left tackle.

There are some notable exceptions (chiefly Cam Newton and Kawann Short both being on injured reserve and out for the year) but aside from that this is the healthiest Carolina has been all season.

It’s good timing, too. They’ll need all the help they can get in New Orleans, where they will be nearly double-digit underdogs.

Panthers Week 11 injury report: Greg Little returns to practice

Here’s the team’s Week 11 injury report.

The Panthers finally got second-round pick Greg Little back on the practice field on Wednesday. He has spent most of the 2019 season in the concussion protocol. However, rookie OT Dennis Daley did not practice and two cornerbacks also sat out.

Here’s the team’s Week 11 injury report.

Player Injury Wed Thu Fri Status
CB James Bradberry Groin Limited Full Full
CB Donte Jackson Hip DNP DNP Limited Questionable
CB Ross Cockrell Quad DNP DNP DNP Out
DT Kyle Love Shoulder DNP Full Full

RB Christian McCaffrey Foot DNP Full Full
OT Greg Little Concussion Limited Full Full
OLB Brian Burns Wrist Full Full Full
LB Shaq Thompson Ankle DNP
OLB Mario Addison Rest DNP
OLB Bruce Irvin Rest DNP

What jumps out here is the three cornerbacks listed at the top. Even if they all play, it’s likely they’re not going to be 100%. That could explain why the team brought back Corn Elder off the Giants’ practice squad yesterday.

Look for more updates later in the week.

Update:

Bradberry sounds like he’s going to play, but Cockrell and Jackson missing the first two days of practice is not a good sign. The Panthers are most likely going to be short-handed at cornerback going into a game against Julio Jones. Not ideal.

Update:

Cockrell has been ruled out and Jackson is questionable. Daley is doubtful, but Little will be returning to the lineup.
