Video: Paige VanZant grabs Britain Hart’s throat, gets cussed out during BKFC faceoff

That escalated quickly.

[autotag]Paige VanZant[/autotag] and Britain Hart turned up the heat Thursday ahead of their main event clash at Bare Knuckle FC’s “KnuckleMania.”

After making weight for their bout, VanZant and Hart came face to face for a traditional final pre-fight staredown. That’s when things quickly went off the rails.

Hart closed in on VanZant’s personal space, and VanZant responded by grabbing the throat of her opponent and pushing her away. Hart didn’t take kindly to that, and she went after VanZant, but was restrained.

Hart then started to cuss out VanZant for her actions and reminded her that choking isn’t legal when they step in the ring for their bare-knuckle boxing match, which takes place Friday at Bert’s Barracuda Harley-Davidson in Clearwater, Fla., and streams via online pay-per-view.

Ahead of BKFC debut, Paige VanZant says she’ll earn 10 times what she made in UFC

Paige VanZant may be assuming a heavy dose of risk stepping into the BKFC ring. However, she claims the reward is worthwhile.

[autotag]Paige VanZant[/autotag] may be assuming a heavy dose of risk stepping into the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship ring. However, she claims the reward is worthwhile.

VanZant, who gained her fighting notoriety during a lengthy UFC stint that included multiple main events, moved on from the promotion in 2020 because she didn’t feel her worth was being truly appreciated.

After testing the open market, VanZant opted to transition sports and move to bare knuckle fighting, inking a deal with BKFC that apparently has massive financial upside. She makes her debut on Friday at BKFC’s “KnuckleMania” event, when she takes on Britain Hart in the headlining bout. The card takes place at Bert’s Barracuda Harley-Davidson in Clearwater, Fla., and streams via online pay-per-view.

Although bare knuckle fighting presents a different kind of danger to MMA, VanZant indicated the reward is well worth it, and claimed at Wednesday’s pre-fight news conference that her contract pays her a great deal more to compete compared to UFC.

“I’m here for a reason,” VanZant told reporters ahead of her debut. “I was in the UFC for six years getting paid $40,000 (to show) and $40,000 (to win), and now I’m getting 10 times that doing what I love. So obviously, I’m not going anywhere. I’m very happy fighting here and I’m excited to fight.”

[lawrence-related id=585784,585264,578671]

VanZant, 26, said her services were in high demand coming off her UFC tenure. She said it ultimately came down to BKFC and Bellator in terms of primary options, and despite her inner circle pushing her to go with the latter and stick to MMA, she decided to follow what she felt most passionate about.

“I was really fortunate coming from the UFC that I did have so many organizations (that) reached out, and I truly wasn’t sure where my career was going to go,” VanZant said. “I had two big offers that were in competition: this one or Bellator, which my husband (Austin Vanderford) fights for. I know I had a lot of people – my coaches, my husband – they all wanted me to go to Bellator. But I had to go where my passion lies, and I truly know this is the organization I belong with. This is the one I was most passionate about. This is where I see myself being the most successful.

“I absolutely love my striking, it’s what I was known for in the UFC, so I’m excited to come in here and show how tough I am. That’s one thing I’ve carried throughout my entire career, is no one can say I’m definitely not one tough chick, and I plan to show that I’m very fortunate I’m in a position where I love the organization I fight for.”

VanZant will make her BKFC debut against Hart, a fighter who has experience with the organization and specifically called out VanZant once she landed on the radar. Hart has been largely respectful leading into fight night, but made it clear she intends to give VanZant a rude awakening when they step in the ring together.

That’s not something that flustered “12 Gauge,” though, she said. She knows she’s new to the BKFC world, but has no uncertainties about her abilities.

“I’m excited to go out and obviously prove (Hart) wrong, because you obviously have doubts,” VanZant said. “I know where I belong and I’m happy here.”

Spinning Back Clique: Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor trilogy for title?

Check out the latest episode of “Spinning Back Clique” opining on Poirier vs. McGregor 3, Paige VanZant’s BKFC debut, and more.

Welcome to “Spinning Back Clique,” MMA Junkie’s weekly show that takes a quick spin through the biggest topics in mixed martial arts. This week, host Simon Head is joined by panelists “Gorgeous” George Garcia from MMA Junkie Radio, as well as MMA Junkie’s Nolan King and Danny Segura. Let’s get into it!

  • The fallout and debate from UFC 257 continues, and we’ve now heard from [autotag]Conor McGregor[/autotag]’s head coach, John Kavanagh, who suggested the UFC could book McGregor and [autotag]Dustin Poirier[/autotag] in a trilogy bout for the undisputed UFC lightweight title. There’s no doubt there’d be plenty of interest in a trilogy, but should the title really be on the line if they run it back for a third time?
  • This weekend sees [autotag]Paige VanZant[/autotag] return to action for the first time since leaving the UFC when she makes her debut for Bare Knuckle FC. Her decision to pick BKFC over potential options in MMA raised a few eyebrows at the time, but now that we’re just a few days away from her debut, what are you expecting to see from her in a new sport?
  • Former Bellator and ONE welterweight champion [autotag]Ben Askren[/autotag] has decided to give [autotag]Jake Paul[/autotag] what he wants, and the pair are going to face off in a boxing match on April 17. We could take this topic in a load of different directions, but let’s just asked this: What’s your take on this whole bout, and are you actually interested in it?
  • To finish off this week, we’ve got a solid card in store with UFC Fight Night 184, as two of the sport’s most respected veterans, [autotag]Alistair Overeem[/autotag] and [autotag]Frankie Edgar[/autotag], return to action in the main and co-main event bouts respectively. Both men are aiming for another shot at championship gold before they call time on their respective careers, but who do you think has the best shot of fighting for a title again, and why?

Hope you enjoy this week’s show. Watch Episode 65 of “Spinning Back Clique” above.

Fight Game on the ‘Gram: BKFC signee Paige VanZant’s best posts

Check out some of Paige VanZant’s most popular Instagram posts after the longtime UFC fighter’s recent free agent signing with BKFC.

Social media is part of life in the fight game for most fighters. Many of them turn to Instagram to keep their fans and followers informed and entertained since (for now) its reputation is less vitriolic than some of its contemporaries.

After she recently signed with BKFC as a free agent following years in the UFC, check out some of the most popular Instagram posts from [autotag]Paige VanZant[/autotag] (8-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) over the past year.

VanZant makes her first foray into the bareknuckle fighting world Friday against Britain Hart at BKFC: Knuckle Mania.

Paige VanZant’s Bare Knuckle FC debut is at ‘Knucklemania’ on Super Bowl weekend

BKFC’s first “Knucklemania” card will feature both Paige VanZant’s debut and the return of Chris Leben.

“What’chu gonna to do when PVZ runs wild on you, brother?”

OK, [autotag]Paige VanZant[/autotag] hasn’t actually cut a promo imitating Hulk Hogan, but she may as well have after the official announcement of her first fight in Bare Knuckle FC.

As first surfaced last week, the former UFC star will make her debut against Britain Hart on Feb. 5. Now we have a venue – RP Funding Center in Lakeland, Fla. — and a name. While previous BKFC events have used a numbered convention, this one will be called “Knucklemania.”

“Since we signed Paige Van Zant in August it’s been the talk of the combat sports world,” BKFC president David Feldman said in a statement. “We’re very excited to announce her BKFC debut against a very tough fighter, Britain Hart, headlining our biggest event of the year, ‘Knucklemania,’ on February 5 in Lakeland, two nights before the Super Bowl in nearby Tampa.”

Two more fights were announced for the card featuring names familiar to MMA fans: “The Ultimate Fighter 1” veteran [autotag]Chris Leben[/autotag] will fight Quinten Henry at 205 pounds, and “Brutal” [autotag]Johnny Bedford[/autotag] takes on Dat Nguyen for the BKFC bantamweight title.

Fans will be admitted to the event, with a press release stating COVID-19 protocols, include social distancing, will be implemented.

Austin Vanderford explains how nude photo series with wife Paige VanZant came to be

Bellator middleweight Austin Vanderford opens up about his nude photo series with wife Paige VanZant.

[autotag]Austin Vanderford[/autotag] has made plenty of noise in the MMA world during his fighting career, but also with some of his work on social media.

The Bellator middleweight has created a photo series, which he posts on his personal Instagram, posing nude with his wife and fellow fighter [autotag]Paige VanZant[/autotag] in many creative ways. Vanderford (10-0 MMA, 4-0 BMMA) says the idea originated during quarantine caused by the coronavirus pandemic and was something just to pass the time and have fun.

“It just comes down to her and I, we post what we want to post and really not caring too much or giving too much care to anyone else,” Vanderford recently told MMA Junkie Radio. “We had fun especially in quarantine doing the nude photos and stuff.

“It was just fun for us to do and something that we wanted to do, so we went with it. It wasn’t due to any request. We just came up one day, and honestly, I think I was running around the house naked, I was out doing pull-ups or something, and the idea kind of sparked, and we did it.”

Vanderford and VanZant’s photos comply with Instagram’s guidelines, and they make sure to creatively make their photos appropriate for the platform.

The Vanderford-VanZant couple followers seem to enjoy the content, and his family doesn’t seem to be bothered by it. Vanderford, 30, says his family supports his online persona. This doesn’t come as a surprise to them.

[lawrence-related id=563817]

“Yeah, our family is supper supportive of us, and they know we’re fun people, and they know our personalities more than anyone else,” Vanderford explained. “So what might be a surprise to the outside world isn’t a surprise to our family because they know us, and they know our true personalities and what not.

“We just have a fun time. That’s what our family is about. We have a good time, so we enjoy coming back home and being with the family and disconnecting from that world and just be with the family.”

Vanderford recently fought in November at Bellator 251, outpointing Vinicius de Jesus in a unanimous decision. “The Gentleman” has yet to be booked for another bout. Meanwhile, his wife, VanZant, is set to make her Bare Knuckle FC debut on Feb. 5. She takes on Britain Hart.

Paige VanZant’s Bare Knuckle FC debut set for Feb. 5

Paige VanZant is ready to transition from the octagon to the ring as she sets a date and opponent for her Bare Knuckle FC debut.

Former UFC star [autotag]Paige VanZant[/autotag]’s bareknuckle boxing debut has a date.

VanZant (8-4 MMA), who signed with Bare Knuckle FC last August, will make her promotional debut against Britain Hart. VanZant announced her contract signing Thursday on Instagram.

VanZant, who competed at both strawweight and flyweight in six years with the UFC, became as popular for her stint on the hit ABC show “Dancing with the Stars” as for her actual fighting in the cage.

After finishing her UFC contract with a first-round submission loss to Amanda Ribas at UFC 251, she drew interest from several promotions, but surprised the fight world by announcing her signing with BFKC.

“I feel like I still have this stigma in MMA that I’m just a pretty face, and what a way to prove to people that’s not the way I see myself at all,” VanZant said at the time. “This is a sport where people probably have the highest rate of getting cut open, and having long term scars is definitely something that I’m not even worried about for me.”

[lawrence-related id=545925,544194,544168]

VanZant, 26, went 5-3 in the UFC, losing three of her past four. Win or lose, her fights tended to be all action, as four of her five UFC victories came by way of finish, two of which earned fight-night bonuses.

Hart is a boxer out of Virginia with a 4-4-3 professional record. She has a 1-2 BKFC record and earned a fourth round TKO of Randine Eckholm at BKFC 14 in November.
